I confirmed for myself that the latest ECU version update (e.g. 04A72 for 2018 MT's, 04B33 for 2019 AT's, etc.) from Toyota is better than (or at minimum is equal to) the default Orange Virus tune. The 2020-2021 year model Taco's are pretty solid off the lot. Make sure you're getting a performance tune if you want to make a big difference - and get it for the latest TSB ECU version. Otherwise, just get the latest TSB installed for free at your 'Yota dealer.
Still thinking about this. I’m just worried on the long run for check engine or transmission problem. But lately I’ve been hearing a lot of positive feedback.
That’s how I felt but after talking about it with Phil he definitely got me on board the fumes safe and just enough not to tune the truck any other questions I’d ask Phil 🤘🏻
In case you don't know. The 3.5l V6 is a short stroke engine. Using 91 octane, to get all the benefits you must a have a balanced bore/stroke or a longer stroke. I would get the tune just for the better shifting. but 87 octane or 89.
Ive been pulling off 19mpg (correcting for the speedo difference) with 33s/stock gears/Ov tune/skids/sliders/some gear on the highway! Was getting 20/21 bone stock
I recently did the OV tune, but did not know about the calibration update. Have to figure that out and try that also. Love the tune, but is it possible to be even better?
@@robertyoung8289 Let's just wait for Phil, shall we? Technically, if it was an aggressive, not-a-care-in-the-world tune, maybe not. But, most likely, the cat converter will take care of it
There’s a guy in San José that is an OVtune installer he tune my truck two weeks ago and I recommend it You can find him on Facebook like Chan Chan or Instagram as chanvchau
It shouldn’t affect your smog check From the information that I have found on different forums, this tune helps a lot or it does make a lot of difference in low rpms in where this truck struggles and that is one of the reasons the transmission goes gear hunting. After tune it should be smoother, better response, improved mpg . Dyno results showed increased hp on low rpm but only a few on top end whic it doesn’t sound like a good deal but it is because you spend 98% on low rpms most of the time.

Do you know how I would find an authorized ov tune dealer in my area? Thanks
Good question
Welcome to the club! I fell in love with the truck again after the tune
Definitely loving the tune can’t complain shifting feels way better and doesn’t lag when I pinch it 💪🏻
What made you go with the OV tune vs the KD Maxx tune?
Definitely regear to 5.29s. It completely changes the truck.

Thats awesome ! I've seen it improve a bit so hoping to maybe see 17 or so in the future
Did you recalibrate your tacoma? Sounds like the mpgs are not getting accurate readings
Not recalibrated, but thats after doing the math to correct for the tire size difference. Been pulling 18mpg daily with 35s now.
@@BUTTSBMX how ru running 18mpg with 35a????

How much $$ for the ov tune?
About $200-250 for mine
I paid 360$
Off topic, but, where did you get those black out headlights?

Will it pass a smog test?
Of course, it will; an ECU tune won't affect emissions
Good question best person to ask would be Phil, but fish taco sounds right but best way to know for sure would be asking Phil
@@fishtacoma Of course it can! 🙄

Good question ! I’d probably hit up Phil to see if he has a 4runner tune available!
