I loved this movie soooo much! I still can quote it almost word for word even though I haven't seen it in several years...I also wore a beautiful "princess" style dress with silver crushed velvet doc martins at my senior prom in '97 as an homage to Buffy (i.e. the same year it became a TV show!)
Did you notice that Benny (Pike’s friend) had a metal tooth when he was human which became a metal fang after he changed? Makes no actual sense of course, but it does make me smile. :) The “what’s behind door number three” line is a reference to the old “Let’s Make a Deal” game show. Extra trivial bonus trivia: that game show is also the source of “The Monty Hall Problem”, a counterintuitive math problem which has its own Wikipedia page, if that sort of rabbit hole is your jam.
According to Joss Whedon in an interview, he actually butted heads with Donald Sutherland big time. "[...} Donald was just... He would rewrite all his dialogue, and the director would let him. He can't write-he's not a writer-so the dialogue would not make sense. And he had a very bad attitude. He was incredibly rude to the director, he was rude to everyone around him, he was just a real pain. And to see him destroying my stuff... Some people didn't notice. Some people liked him in the movie. Because he's Donald Sutherland. He's a great actor. He can read the phone book, and I'm interested. But the thing is, he acts well enough that you didn't notice, with his little rewrites, and his little ideas about what his character should do, that he was actually destroying the movie.[...]"
Seth Green was cut out of the film, but can ve seen on thr back cover of the packaging. RIP Luke, Rutger, Donald, and Paul. The amount of time it takes to turn varies on the show as well. It has to be a home on the show, though Angel does mention that the school had "Welcome all who seek knowledge," written in Latin outside. Jiss said he would never work with Donald Sutherland again.
"Or maybe she could go for what's behind door number 3" is a reference to the old tv game show "Let's Make a Deal". The "Aren't there times when you just feel... less than fresh?" is a reference to a feminine hygiene product commercial, I think. "The rest is silence" is a reference to Hamlet.
I think you two must have missed the part at the dance where - after Buffy said they couldn't come in unless you invite them - one of her friends says "I invited them... well hey! They're Seniors!"
I remember that phrase very well, I found it funny 😄 I also remember thinking it was weird that they had to be invited to come in when it was a public property - Maria
@@samandmariachannel I was just a bit confused, because Sam was saying something about "Don't they have to be invited?" and you two commented on maybe someone invited them. Did you re-watch that bit and Sam saw that quote? 🙂 And yeah, weird they would need to be invited into a public place - I wouldn't call the movie "canon" ;-)
I think we were going with what the movie was showing us at the time and might’ve reacted weirdly 🤨 we haven’t rewatched it since editing the video and it’s been awhile. Yep, kind of a separate thing 😁
Apparently Stephen Root played Lynn Boyle in _Brooklyn Nine Nine,_ but I always think of his roles in _Get Out_ and _True Blood._ A pre-Karate Kid and -Oscar Hilary Swank is also part of Buffy's gang.
I have been waiting for this since moviebudz first started and can't wait to watch this with you two. This movie is THE perfect example of a cult movie and is a great joy when you consider the show came from THIS, lmao. After drowning in disecting court documents from multiple horrible crimes and having a very serious and scary health issue having dr's scratching their heads (my motto of go big or go home applies, lmao) this is JUST what I need tonight. Love you guys, keep up the great content!
I personally know that Sam does not train with stakes. Sam has a lethal collection of bamboo sticks. It all started that faithful day, freshman year. Three guys tried to steal his MP3 player. From that day forth, Sam was feared, his wrath, bringing shivers to the bones of bullies all around. That was primary school. Since then, Sam has kept up his training regimen, the tales of his force, passed down over the years. Maria is not as fierce with the martial arts. But...she does have ninja stars. Whichever the case, they are not to be confronted.
In my head, the movie is canon, but it's Buffy's story as told by someone I dont think you'e met yet in your reactions (Im not sure where you are on Patreon).
My husband and I saw this when it came out and loved it, especially fun was Paul Reubens at the end. That's why we tuned into the Buffy tv series and watched for it's run, also watched Angel. I enjoyed all except hated the final episode of Buffy, unlike the finale of Angel that was perfect.
Oh yeah, that scene was a lot of fun! I’m curious about the finale thoughts, but I don’t want Sam to see any spoilers. If you can say why you didn’t like it in a non-spoilery way, would be appreciated, if not, all good. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😄- Maria
I really enjoy this movie for the camp and cheese that it is. The bad acting on mostly all the parts but Lothos and Merrick have amazing actors and that's what we got? Donald even did his own thing a couple times. Kristy Swanson's always been an okay actress, playing similarly in everything I've seen her in. It's just too sad the movie could have been better as per what the original script sounded like, which is darker with Merrick and the school gym actually burning down. Those vampires were technically in the school so them not getting in the gym easy is just weird. I mean, it's the same place. It would have been better had they had an explanation à la Angelus to Jenny in season 2. This movie isn't good but it isn't bad. It is a good time no matter what and to me, it's a classic. And it is totally remembered by everyone no matter what anyone says and it gave us the amazing show!
This movie is so much more fun when you realize it is supposed to be campy. There is nothing serious in this movie. You should check out a pyromaniacs love story too, also very silly.
"Can I borrow her?"
"No, you'll get her dirty..."
🤣🤣🤣
The movie has a lot of great snapbacks.
RIP Luke Perry 1966-2019

Totally fair. Oh nice! 😄 - Maria

Oh my god, no! That is so cool even if it doesn’t make sense 😁 - Maria
I always think of Stephen Root as Milton from Office Space! "I could put strychnine in the guacamole."
One Sutherland, a watcher. Another, a Lost Boy. It's beautiful.
Ben Affleck young Affleck makes an Appearance in the Basketball Scene Fun Fact Cameo!
In buffy series they also say the watchers are not suppose to get involved but he did
14:44 Yeah he only has half a phone
Ruther Hauer in THE HITCHER is actually one of the most intimidating villains in suspense horror. Give it a watch.
Such an iconic movie
Sure is 😊 - Maria

Rutger Hauer (when he was younger) was Anne Rice's pick to play Lestat at one point.
Oh hey, didn’t know that 😄 - Maria
The girls said “you could die a virgin”. BUFFY turns around and says it could happen. In the movie theater scene.

Did anybody notice that actress Hilary Swank was also in the movie? She was wearing the yellow leather jacket that Buffy wanted
Absolutely 👍🏻 - Maria
I know! And who knew she would become such a great actress and win 2 Oscar’s??
I'm glad to see you both again.
Thank you 😊🙏🏻 - Maria
1:08:26 Opps I am Dead Vampire!🧛♂️

I❤ This Movie & The TV Show! I Grow Up In The Late 80s \ Early 90s ( Maria's Right!)
Great reaction guys another movie to checkout is 2011 Remake Fright Night
In my head, the movie is canon, but it's Buffy's story as told by someone I dont think you'e met yet in your reactions (Im not sure where you are on Patreon).
I like to think this is the version the Watcher council tells, where she doesn't burn down the gym 🤣🤣🤣
I have a feeling I know the person you’re talking about. Season 5?
We’re on season 4 👍🏻 - Maria
This was such a fun movie the series is way better but this was really campy and fun. Keep them coming guys you are amazing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It sure was! 😄 thanks so much! 😊🩷 - Maria
Omg!!!!! This is such a classic!!!!
It sure is 😄 - Maria
Actually classic bomber jackets are/were brown. You might be thinking of a different jacket.
Awesome reaction of my favorite superhero movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊

Even though the series is better, I love how silly and random this movie is.
Absolutely 😁 - Maria
This again? Nice
Krystie Swanson would be against Buffy existing. She became a Maga weirdo.
Yeah, sadly - Maria
