It's honestly so wild how different the movie is from the book. They went full comedy, whereas the book is much more of a serious exploration of shame and low self-esteem (as far as I remember)
The biggest difference in the book, other than the development of the Bianca Wesley relationship, is Bianca's dad. I'm not gonna give anything away because I honestly recommend reading the book. Surprisingly, even Sam would enjoy it, despite his experiences. Let's just leave it at that.
the BEST male/female friendship is 'A Cinderella Story', like at no point is there anything other than platonic love between Sam & Carter(& theyre both straight) I love that the friendship strain between the 3 girls was entirely 1s self esteem/insecurity issues, like there wasnt anything they did to each other that started a fight, it was just her feelings that got in the way & it felt so real, like thats a real high school friend fight also the himbo representation is immaculate

i didn’t know in 2015 when i went to watch the latest random teen movie that came out that i would completely fall in love with it and still re-watch it regularly. literally no one cares about this movie yet it’s one of my faves of all time, that and the book. they snuck up on me big time. the chemistry between bianca and wes truly is what makes it, they have such a sweet bond, every story with a romance needs that energy lmao.
@@samandmariachannel Maria, find the book online in PDF form and read it. It's a quick read, I believe I read it in a few hours. Having seen the movie doesn't ruin the book.
Totally agree with your point about wanting to see more male, female strong friendships staying as great friendships. In saying that, this and easy A are two of my fave young adult friends to lovers films. Fave adult aged one has to be The Proposal haha. But I find it hard to be mad at any representation of healthy positive relationships with men and women that develop into more these days as I feel like it balances out some of the toxic relationship representations that are presented as if they are totally fine and normal.
One of my fave platonic male female friendships is Nora and Alex from red white and royal blue. They (in the book at least) dated briefly before realizing they were better friends. She's the granddaughter of the us vp and he's the son of the president. They're super supportive of each other, but also tease the hell out of each other. She's also an analyst and hacker, and that's pretty cool. Also everyone in that movie looks like models.
If i were to rec a movie with a strong platonic male and female friendship, id recommend The Half of It! Its a queer coming of age film, but the friendship that develops between the protagonist and the guy friend is so sweet and treated as very important too
I forgot to answer this on Patreon, but I have definitely heard "fucking A" in the US throughout my life. I feel that other slang exclamations are used more often, but no one would be surprised by the use of that one.
I saw this film in theatre with my best friend and the sheer amount of nostalgia alone would be enough make me like it but Duff is honestly a really good film on its own merit, too!

I saw this movie for the first time last year and I enjoyed it, but as someone who was entirely invisible my whole damn life I hated how relatable this story was. Vincent Price is a horror OG. He’s in the original House of Wax and House on Haunted Hill, which I’m pretty sure is an interpretation of The Haunting of Hill House. Both of those are very good and Vincent Price is great in them. I don’t know how available they are online but I have both on DVD…I found them by chance in a donation bin at my work! I didn’t realize it was based on a book. I liked this movie well enough except for the ending. It went from the movie being about friendship to just another “getting the guy” cliche. I wish he was more of a footnote like in Legally Blonde.
i think she was probably freaking out about liking wesley because she's had her one singular devoted crush to toby for so long and now that she's finally on a date with him, she's caught feelings for wesley. very inconvenient timing lol
I see it differently. Her crush on Toby was a more recent thing compared to Wesley, who she's known her entire life. First off, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! ❤ Thank you for the reaction! ❤ As far as your Vincent Price question goes, I know he's a horror ICON but sadly I have never seen any horror film of his because I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to horror. 😂 However, (And anyone in the comments can correct me if I'm wrong) I have seen what I think was his last role before he passed which was Edward Scissorhands. He was AMAZING in that! If you've never seen it I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do! Might be a good reaction for the channel? Or on your own time. Its so good! ❤ Anyways, great reaction! Thank you! ❤
American here! Ppl do say “fuckin aye” but I think it’s more of an east coast and westerner type slang (I’m from Cali but I’ve heard it quite a bit before from certain ppl)
51:43 I completely understand. I would love to see a well done movie that highlights a strong female and male friendship without resulting in romance *sigh* but if that's hard to get even now, I don't think they would have let that happen in 2015
1:13:13 - i'm aussie and haven't heard anyone say 'fuckin A', BUT i'd say i've heard 'fuckin AYE' 😂 i'm sure you meant the first one, and my american friends for SURE say that one!
I'm confused what distinction you're trying to make here... I'm from Sydney, have been saying aye at the end of different sentences most of my life, and the only difference I can think of that you're making is either the spelling or the fact that Allison says it with an American accent. Either way, it's the same phrase though - Sam
@@samandmariachannel i think it's the spelling thing, because I've seen it spelt either way! i just wasn't sure if there was an actual difference between the two.

imagine this best on a real story. I said I feel like a duff bc all my friends was taken (and we was hanging with my friend bf house) and he agree I was a duff and that hurts (even tho he was too but he was dating my friend who was really pretty)
I really don’t want to, but alas 😞
I’m sorry to hear you experienced that. I hope things are better now and your friends have grown since then - Maria
@@samandmariachannel we are good thank you and im okay i healed from it
Great reaction! You should react to Barbie for positive relationships!
I love this movie and the book is even better 🤌🏽🤌🏽
20:49 simple fix. Don’t dress frumpy & participate not just in the background be up front like your friends.
Absolutely 👍- Sam
I miss your Buffy reactions, it isn’t the same without them.
I hear you Randy, we miss putting them on TH-cam. We keep trying to think of ways we could come back to it, but so far we just don’t know how to make it work. Thanks for the support 🙏 - Sam
This movie is so fun but I wish Bianca had ended up with Alan the toppings consultant!
I liked their interaction very much, and it would be cool if their explored it more - Maria
First off, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! ❤ Thank you for the reaction! ❤
As far as your Vincent Price question goes, I know he's a horror ICON but sadly I have never seen any horror film of his because I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to horror. 😂
However, (And anyone in the comments can correct me if I'm wrong) I have seen what I think was his last role before he passed which was Edward Scissorhands. He was AMAZING in that! If you've never seen it I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do! Might be a good reaction for the channel? Or on your own time. Its so good! ❤
Anyways, great reaction! Thank you! ❤
I thought of Edward Scisshorhands too! Iconic film
I like your hat Sam very nice
The Orlando hat? Thanks, they've been probably my favourite east coast team for a while 😊 - Sam
@@samandmariachannel I’m from California & never been to Orlando so I haven’t seen a hat like yours before. It’s very nice
@jayekisses ah, I get you. Thanks so much 😊 - Sam
American here! Ppl do say “fuckin aye” but I think it’s more of an east coast and westerner type slang (I’m from Cali but I’ve heard it quite a bit before from certain ppl)
interesting-i’ve lived on the east coast my entire life and i’ve never heard anyone here say it
Watch air bud
Are you still not able to start Helluva Boss?
Not just yet. We have a lot on our plates, so we’re just trying to figure out where we’re fitting it in - Sam
@tinyquokka sure, I hear you 😊👍 - Sam
