I look back at the car washes in high school we did for our tennis team and we were teens in bikinis with grown men stopping or honking at us…. Why did they let us do that?! 😂 it’s so terrible to think about now!
59:28 a lot of cheerleading music is like this. I think it’s made specifically for the energy of dance & the hard bass/beat is for the counts of the jumps, flips,& claps.
I think it would be considered very poor sportsmanship for the champion team to just skip out on regionals even if they’re already guaranteed to go to nationals.
1:58 never happened to me either and as much as I can remember, has not happened to my friends either. It kind of gives the vibes of a dream urban legend lol
Sooo 27:40 actually he is correct for not rinsing out the tooth paste. After you brush your teeth you are NOT supposed to rinse it out, you should leave it on your teeth so the good stuff (fluoride) from your toothpaste have time to work. Personally I prefer to rinse it out to get rid of food leftovers and then apply the fresh coat and leave it :)
I don’t think that they did cultural appropriation. It’s not like they couldn’t of come up with those cheers as suburban white girls, the former captain just figured “hey this poor inner city squad will never have the money to compete and these cheers are good and their routines are awesome, I can just steal their material and there will be no consequences” sure there is some cultural appropriation hinted at in the subtext but it doesn’t strike me that that’s what they were aiming for.
@@MarkG-nl4oq Actually, that's exactly what the writer, Jessica Bendinger, was aiming for. She was a white writer covering hip hop for a predominantly white magazine. She was also a cheerleading fan and decided to combine both after seeing predominantly white squads "emulating hip hop moves". She asked "what if" and pitched the routine stealing plot based off of that.
@@PHSDM104 I’d have to research any comments she made on it but this alone doesn’t prove cultural appropriation was the intended angle. Eminem and white dancers putting together hip hop moves and routines were already a thing by the time this came out. Hip hop inspired routines were becoming mainstream in pop music videos and amongst choreographers. I agree that the subtext is there but there’s a difference in saying “what if a predominantly white school was un knowingly using cheerleading routines created by a predominantly black urban school?” and “what if the success of the white squads was solely based on appropriating urban dance and culture?” if you can’t see these are two different things then you’re racist in the opposite direction.

I think I could speak for why they went to regionals, even though they have a guaranteed pass to Finals. When I did robotics, we were a legacy team guaranteed a pass to the Championship, but we still went to two regionals to get some practice in. Going straight to the Finals without some experience of how the season is going and how fellow teams are performing isn't great. So I'm sure that's why they went to the prelim competitions before the Finals.

I wonder if the being naked in a dream trope was a rare thing until movies introduced everyone to a new fear.
Good question - Maria
Don't really think so because it's just the escalation of the being in front of everyone in your underwear trope.
