    Today the LEGO Group unveils the latest addition to its much-loved LEGO TRANSFORMERS lineup: the LEGO® Icons TRANSFORMERS Bumblebee set. Released amid the beloved franchise’s 40th anniversary year, this new set is poised to captivate existing fans and invite new audiences to play out the battle between good and evil.
    Maintaining the same scale as the LEGO TRANSFORMERS Optimus Prime set, originally revealed in 2022, this set presents enthusiasts with the opportunity to construct the iconic Autobot, Bumblebee, entirely from LEGO bricks. As a vital companion to LEGO Optimus Prime, Bumblebee completes the iconic duo, allowing fans to recreate epic battles and adventures. What distinguishes this model is its remarkable ability to seamlessly transition between bot mode and vehicle mode, unlocking impressive versatility without the need for disassembly.
    The 950-piece set is a highly detailed model of the iconic 1980s robot action figure. It features articulated joints, an ion blaster, and a jetpack, seamlessly converting from Autobot to vehicle mode; accompanied by a display plaque, integrated LEGO Builder app for digital instructions and versatile display options, making it a perfect gift for TRANSFORMERS fans and collectors.
    The LEGO® Icons TRANSFORMERS Bumblebee set is available for LEGO Insiders from 1st July 2024 at www.LEGO.com/Bumblebee and LEGO Stores for all from 4th July priced at €89.99 / £79.99/ $89.99.

      To be really honest, comparing this to what many model kit companies claim to be a transformer (swap 25% of the kit out, or have a kit of just the robot form) I think Lego did a pretty good job here.

    People are being pretty unfair to the designer I feel! If the transformation was simpler maybe it would have looked more like the source material, but given they were trying to make the transformation more involved to invoke the old toys, I think it looks pretty good in both forms, and its almost half the price of the optimus prime so this is a major win in my eyes.

      @taqresu5865 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      For me, it depends on how well the partsforming is. I would say the biggest offender in recent memory is WFC Kingdom Arcee. Her entire car alt mode is just a shell you attach to her back as no part of her robot mode, except her backpack, is incorporated into the "transformation."
      But when it's just the windshield in this case, or the trunk of the car, like the recent G1 Bumblebee and Cliffjumper figures, I'm perfectly fine with the partsforming.

    It’s not a bad transforming figure per se, but considering the original source material had a simpler transformation, looks like they made a “difficult” process harder than it needed to be.
    Sure, maybe it wasn’t possible to obtain the license, but there should have been an easy way to transform it without needing to partsform the windshield.

    • @taqresu5865
      @taqresu5865 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The original source material toy isn't a cartoon accurate representation of the character because the animators changed up Bee's design quite a bit, especially when it comes to proportions.

    • @thekilljoy2919
      @thekilljoy2919 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@taqresu5865 I’d argue and say the Lego version is an even worse representation of the cartoon model. However, almost none of the toy designs for the original G1 transformers carried over into the animation, so Bumblebee isn’t exactly the exception here.
      Considering Prime was just an improved version of the G1 toy, it wouldn’t have been hard to do the same for Bee. Reworking the entire transformation made things more difficult than they should have been.

    • @taqresu5865
      @taqresu5865 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@thekilljoy2919 Have you even looked at how the original Bumblebee toy transformed? First and foremost, after the feet flip up, the legs telescope out to their full length, that's impossible to pull off in LEGO without compromising the figure's ability to stand and carry it's own weight. The set would have been top heavy, too heavy to keep the telescope engineering.
      Second, if the set transformed exactly as the toy had, there would have been wheels on the shoulders and the hands, as well as big hollow spaces in the back of the torso, in fact there would be no car surface anywhere on the back of the robot mode.
      Bumblebee's head would also be on an unstable hinge, the same type of issue we see on WFC Seige Megatron.

    Don’t know much about Transformers, so I wouldn’t know (or care) how accurate this is to the toys, cartoons, or comics. (I watched the first season of the US cartoon, and the original movie, and I don’t think I’ve seen anything other than trailers for the Bay movies, since.)
    But when I was a kid I tried desperately to make Transformers with my Lego-I think the parts just didn’t exist. (And when I started seeing people manage it in the ‘00s, it inevitably used parts that didn’t exist in the ‘80s.) so just the fact that we can not only build Transformers-like MOCs, but there are actual sets of them is really cool!
    That said, I don’t need this set, though I have a friend who might. But I want to see more about that “bowtie hinge”! That sounds really useful, and like something I’m gonna want a pile of.

    I’ve seen some negative comments for this set, and as a fan for both Transformers and Lego, I think that they’re really stupid, like cut them some slack. They’re going for cartoon accuracy and the G1 toy does not help them at all. People saying that it looks hideous, Lego pieces are very limited based on the scale they’re going for, and for the car mode, it’s unlicensed so they’re trying to give off the feel of a VW Beetle, just like most transformers, the alt mode is unlicensed so they’re trying to give off the feel. People saying that the transformation is more complicated than it should’ve been, brother ALL transformations are complicated in some way, Official, Third Party, or Lego MOCs, they’re all complicated in some way. I saw a comment saying that making new parts is cheating, THEY MAKE NEW PARTS ALL THE TIME! Like here are some examples: The 1969 Camaro set, they had a new 1x5 piece, a 1x1 that’s two studs high, and a whole new rim piece that connected to the SNOT bricks; that new ratchet joint that’s used in some Lego Ninjago sets and used in the Optimus Prime set; those new arm/leg joints for those themed Star Wars or marvel mechs. Do you consider those cheating? If you don’t want to get the set, fine, then don’t get the set, but you don’t have to ridicule them for trying their best when it comes to Lego Transformers

      They certainly could have worked it in better, but I don’t really blame them for taking that route as this is a daunting task for a designer, especially one that’s not entirely familiar with Transformers engineering. Judging by the connection point, I think you may be able to leave it attached, but it would make the chest lean back on the hinge in order for that to work. Still, would have been nice for the windshield to be always attached intentionally. Plus, it’s Lego so you could mod it however you want, I know that’s cliche but it is true none the less.
