Hi Stacey, I've been sorting my scraps by color and making reusable grocery bags out of them. They came out so pretty! Instead of using batting, I used medium weight iron on interfacing. Since the bag is lined, the interfacing works well to make a sturdy but light-weight bag.
I have a niece who loves composition or notebooks. She writes all the time. Giving her a book cover made from scraps of her favorite colors would be a wonderful holiday gift.
This is such a fun technique for using those scraps. Finished items look so pretty and special. Thinking of all the small projects you've taught us that could be made with this scrap-busting method. Love it! 🤩
I love the phrase "scrap busting"! I save every leftover bit that is sewable. It's also a cool way to remember all of the quilts & projects that a person has made. Thanks for such great ideas to use them!! You're the BEST!!
Love this!! I have been doing this for years 😀 I have a huge basket of scraps and make what I call crazy blocks between projects. I trim them to 6.5" and keep them in a basket till I have enough for a large lap quilt. I then add sashing between the blocks and have a cheerful quilt! If the quilt ia going to a child, I will make an I SpY list for them as well.
I do something similar with the scraps so they don't get out of hand, try to keep up. After a stressful day, nothing relax s me like spending 20-30 minutes of scrap piecing so I do end up with enough to make a quilt!
@@Rosey_Parker its a list of things to find in the quilt top. I love to use novelty fabric in kids quilts so there is usually characters or objects for them to find in each block.
Thank you so much for this!!! I just recently got a sewing machine and I'm so excited to start my sewing journey making cute little bags with old clothing that no longer fits.
Your last tip (long strip and sew shorter items to it) is my go-to method. A perfect application for whimsical piecing is making reuseable shopping bags for friends and family or perhaps a pet bed/quilt cover.
Yes, I do this also... and just this week-cleaned out a box of scraps (made 12 Fat Quarters)... will use for either a blanket or some purses or backpacks. LOVE ❤️ the videos. Thank you. 😊
Oh, so glad I found this tutorial. I have been sorting through a few years of scrap fabrics from when my daughter use to make and sell pioneer costumes for a local history farm. And one can keep adding to make a larger piece of fabric to make so many different items. Also I could listen to your voice/accent all day. Thank you for your tutorials!

The About info box on you gives a US address, but I swear that's a Kiwi accent! I'm wondering if the scraps are all aligned in terms of direction of material - I'm not sure of the right terms, but the way the threads face, is it weft and weave? Or bias? Basically a straight edge could be cut on any angle? Or is it along the thread lines? I've seen another video that demonstrated a similar technique, and I couldn't tell there either, they used straight edges but it didn't matter if the edge was in squares/rectangles like yours were, they could have been on diagonals, but it wasn't clear if even with the diagonal they had somehow matched the underlying material direction.
