Looking at @duckpondanimations YT channel he actually made his start with Lego stop motion videos. The way you overlay the gameplay in the background reminds me of press conferences where high profile AAA games have backgrounds of the gameplay all over, and reporters talk in front of them. Love how even smaller games get to have the same spotlight now.
I remember coming across demo/beta of this back on Itch a few months before its official Steam release. I honestly love what was on offer with GearBits. It's basically less like Armored Core and more like Muv-Luv (with how giant alien bugs are invading human colonies) and Ace Combat (with its more traditional story focused approach and mission based gameplay). It's a really good game for its price. My loadout often was the Heavy Cannon (big AOE for swarms), Drum Gun (high capacity suppression), and Charge Laser (practically guaranteed instant death and penetration). This pretty much carried me through all the missions until I unlocked the hidden special mech.
the description in the first 18 seconds was sounding like robotech battlecry also, the animated actor sprites are very 2010s newgrounds and that makes me smile
When I saw the Gameplay I didn't hesitate for a second to go to the steam page and put it on my Wishlist. The world needs more AC or Gundam inspired games.
The thing I look most forward to in any mecha game is visual customization. Gundam Breakers lets you mix-and-match parts as if you are making your own Gunpla. Armored Core has a good amount of it. And M.A.S.S. Builder is like a 3D art program with how much you can visually customize mechs, and even weapons. In fact, I would like to see some more attention being brought to MASS Builder. Not only is it fun to create mechs and weapons, but it is also fun to play. The game is still in early access, but its coming along quite well, with promising updates and progress being shown frequently.
This is the kind of game that I would happily pay extra for voice acted dialogue in a vein similar to Ace Combat / Project Wingman, just for that extra atmosphere.
