    Personally, I think Black Diamonds are becoming more popular because people are choosing gems they LIKE vs what society expects them to buy.
    ie Not a traditional wedding ring with a white diamond, but a black one because they like it.

      @taylorbug9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      You got that right. I insisted on helping pick out my ring and I found a gorgeous ring with a lab made ruby and lab made white sapphires. Set in rose gold it's so beautiful and so different from other women's wedding rings.

    • @SilvaDreams
      @SilvaDreams 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nah just like Chocolate diamonds they are a lot more common and the diamond sellers are just pushing them because they have an excess of them.
      There are tons of different colored diamonds, pinks, yellow, brown, blue and so on but people have traditionally wanted the clear ones because they tend to be the most rare.

    • @choryllis6646
      @choryllis6646 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SilvaDreams Sellers push them because they're expensive because there's an artificial scarcity. 80% of diamond mines are owned by 1 company and they only release a certain amount per year to force the prices up. Decreased supply = increased demand. This is the same company that came up with the slogan "diamonds are forever," and are responsible for the marketing campaign that made everyone believe you HAVE to have a diamond ring for weddings.

      @Sergio Perez There is another theory how black diamonds are formed. Meteorites or asteroids hitting the Earth’s surface can cause black diamonds to be formed because of the impact. This is the case of Wolfe Creek Crater situated in the north of Western Australia. The black diamonds were found in the 1890’s!!

    My engagement ring is a black diamond. When we were looking for a jeweler in the early 2000s, no one would touch it. We found a local small biz jeweler who did help us and I love it today as much as back then. 🖤 It was taboo back then, before the Victoria Secret black diamond bra debuted, no one (big corp) would think of making an engagement ring out of them.

    Black diamonds are the most common of all colours. They are used for industrial purposes and smaller sizes are easy to obtain cut. The hype is because someone famous wore one not because they are rare. Diamonds are not rare but they are hyped by the biggest diamond mining company and trickle fed to keep prices high

    I think all colored inclusion diamonds shot up in price/value shortly after artificial diamonds started to become popular (not sure about black, but yellow, blue, and brown definitely). Because it's much more difficult to create an artificial diamond with colored inclusions intentionally, since you have to dial in exactly the right impurities. So the smartest way to compete was to push previously less desirable colored diamonds as a luxury item. TBH I think it's a good thing - I always thought colorless diamonds were kinda boring.

Red and champagne are trickier to find.

      I too have a blue diamond ring however one of the stones fell out. I do have a piece I can reset and repair. The cost of the diamond will tell you if you have a real blue or if it has been treated e.g heating etc. Blue diamonds can be man-made but yes I would assume you would need a professional to master the balance

The traditional rough diamond jewelery necklaces are beautiful but not my style.

      Swarovski has developed a whole line of man made fancy color diamond. That are very well priced.
      Fancy colored diamonds are extremely rare.
      Quality ones ar least.
      Diamonds are not that rare at all.
      Only colorless diamond over 5 ct are rare.
      Where Red diamonds for example are so rare that 1 ct round brilliant stones are worth millions.
      It wasnt long ago colored diamonds were cheaper then colorless.
      But that was caused by a century of marketing by the diamond industry being unraveled.
      Colored stones and Fancy colored diamonds reallu started getting the attention they deserve when the World became enamored with Kate Middletons Sapphire Engagement Ring.

    The vast majority of colored diamonds are manufactured.
    DeBeers bought the patent because manufactured diamonds are indistinguishable from natural diamonds without included markings and identifiers.
    Diamonds, as opposed to being rare, are the *most common form* of pure carbon found on the planet and it is ONLY through DeBeers' world wide control of the supply that prices are maintained at an artificially high rate.

    I think that they are becoming more popular due to clever marketing.
    The increased supply on the back end of the diamond treatment industry has to be sold somehow...
    Diamonds of cutable size with otherwise insufficient clarity are sometimes irradiated to turn them black, this has led to a significant increase in the number of black diamonds entering the jewellery market.
    In my opinion they're probably best kept for specimens or abrasives. A bit harsh maybe, but, I just don't see too much special in them unless they have some rare inclusions/zoning happening within.

    I tried my best to find a cheaper cut black diamond in like 1999-2000 all across the internet, with tons of friends trying to help me without so much as a tiny one being found for a damn ring. Once rappers and that one movie where they steal black diamonds came out all of a sudden they were everywhere and costed a fortune to get one.
    Now when you see a rapper or some comedians you might see them blinged out with black diamonds. So when morganite hit the scene it only came in black and costed next to nothing. I paid $20.00 for a large 20 carat solid black morganite that looks and is almost as hard as a black diamond plus they had never been found except in meteorites but we could create them in a lab and only in black the way they were found.
    Now I have given up on black diamonds because it is too popular, too expensive, and I like to be different just for the sake of it (but I am not a snob about it). Besides morganite is really expensive now compared to then, I would have bought a lot more back then if I had known that.

    Black diamonds are popular because they are different. People like shiny new things that make them feel more special than others so nothing better than a black diamond. Plus, people are probably bored with regular diamonds. Honestly, most folks can’t deal with the fact that the regular diamonds are all they’ll be able to afford…if that.

    Black diamonds are becoming popular because there isn't another color that hasn't hit the trend stream, so literally there is nothing left for the sellers to tout. I personally have always loved seeing the different inclusions/particles in black diamonds, they're fascinating.

    In my opinion, they are popular because they are expensive stones displaying prestige, black in color (if the word cool had a color it would be black) and they are hard to manufacture as said in the video. I would buy a custom-made ring made from a black diamond.

      They are not rare, they are just too deep. Mining that deep costs millions, so people who have enough money to mine them, set prices. When they see that people want to pay huge amounts, they raise prices to the limits that the rich would pay. I mean, any gemstone is priceless (literally they should have no price) They are the same as any rock you see on the ground, they just crystalized under pressure and the temperature so... yeah

    0:10 FunFact: The Tiffany Yellow Diamond is a massive and large yellow diamond that's been valued for such a high price for its clarity and size that the company isn't selling it but keeps it and only lends it to celebrities on a couple of occasions. That means, not even eccentric billionares are allowed to purchase it making it practically priceless. Although it's been debated whether diamonds are as rare and valuable as companies are marketing them to be, for the Tiffany diamond, at least, it is definitely a rare find.

    Black has become quite popular over the years. Clothing, hair color, hell even makeup color such as nail polish and lipstick. As was pointed out in the video they're also unique. Then, of course, there are those who consider black as their favorite "Color." Yes, I know neither black or white are not technically colors but please allow the dalliance here. There's also the mystical properties. Pretty much every precious, semi-precious and even non-precious gem has one. For black diamonds it is generally said to offers mystic properties relation to action, passion and energy.
    All of these, to some degree or another, are likely contributing to their popularity. That is my guess anyhow.
