Comments are enabled on this video since this is a very new topic on my channel. Please note that I generally only view and moderate comments under videos; discussion mostly takes place, as usual, in our community (called Weekly Chat) on the Community Tab - as has been the case for the last year, ever since I was forced to disable video comments.
Some game titles shown in this video are rated M (Mature 17+) by the ESRB. My video is therefore NOT suitable for children as per the COPPA legislation.

Hi Food4Dogs, my mom is in her mid sixties, and I'm just wondering if you have any advice for how I could get her interested in "real" videogames? She only wants to play candy crush (going on 10 years almost-- she's on level 4000 something). I tried getting her into the sims but she only enjoyed the create-a-sim part and not the game itself. A Myst remake just came out recently and I've been trying to get her into it since it doesn't have combat or require tight hand-eye coordination. I know she'd enjoy real games if I can just find the right one. She plays candy crush for 4 hours straight sometimes and I know she'd have more fun playing something like Persona 5 if I could only get her interested.

@@111olbap Ah, that's a really tough one. Not the first time this question has cropped up.
Playing Candy Crush straight for 4 hours is not healthy - but at her age (she's only a few years younger than me) it's soooo difficult to change habits and patterns, for most people.
You may find you can't discover that One Game that suddenly turns her around. Tbh, I think the first priority might best be to get her not to play so much Candy Crush - do any other activity instead! Going for walks, doing aerobics, sewing .. whatever floats her boat.
As to games, I can only offer 2 general suggestions:
      1. Candy Crush is a match-three puzzle game - so if you could steer her towards *other* match-three style games, but ones that are of higher quality. That could be a first step to her accepting that there are other games out there worth playing. I can tell from your description that for your mom, playing CK is a way to 'switch off' (maybe also stress relief). That's how most people see games. Taking the step from there to "real" games (which involve a challenge) is the real stumbling block.
      2. FMV games. Yep, those "cinematic" ones that look like you're playing a movie, and there are dialogue options etc. and QTEs. They're easy to get into if (big IF) the person enjoys movies. I always remember playing The Late Shift with my husband, he was even keen to find the different endings. -- Wales Interactive have done a lot of FMV games - I think Late Shift and The Bunker are both suitable for beginners. I haven't played The Complex yet, but have heard positive feedback. Then there's a Japanese FMV one called Death Come True which is very good - we enjoyed it, and it takes only about 2 hrs (+ a bit for other branches/endings). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Come_True
      Hope that helps a little.

Why are you not releasing Gamepass in the Philippines? There are lots of console gamers here but majority are PS owners because there's no sense in getting Xbox if we can't even have gamepass! And no, I dont want to deal with VPNs and stuff.. I am currently thinking of getting next gen console but I cant consider the Xbox because of the lack of gamepass here.. I'd rather wait for PS5 stocks than get Xbox without gamepass.. but if you release gamepass, I will surely get the more powerful series x!

100%. Admittedly I've always been a Sony fanboy, but now a days the whole console war thing is so dumb. I just watched the new Sony showcase and I cringe when I see people comment how Sony "won" or "destroyed" the competition? Microsoft is killing it right now for value and they have the most powerful console. They all have their pros and cons and the idea that they are at war with each other is pretty archaic.

You’re such a naturally good speaker that it’s easy to listen to you improv an entire 26-minute video and not get bored. There are guys in their 20s and 30s that can’t make it through a 10-second take without constant edits and meticulous scripting. A lot of creators with 10x the subs still don’t realise that sometimes good vocabulary and thoughtful pacing and structuring is more than enough to keep an audiences’ attention. I’m glad there are alternatives to the usual gaming content 👍

      @SquareNoggin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I love my series S as well.
It has genuinely been one of my most satisfactory gaming purchases in a long time. No problems at all, it still runs smooth, none of that red ring of death BS I was worried might be a problem with microsoft hardware (I'm sure some of remember having to open up our 360s and doing some soddering back in the day to keep the console alive).
Like it's a really good deal. I think a lot of people deadset on getting a series X or a PS5 would do well to consider the series S. Particularly if they don't have a honking 4k monitor or TV. Honestly I still can't figure out what the point of a series X is without a 4k monitor. You get the HDR and high FPS on a series S, its gonns run the same games, much more attractive price and a reeeeally nice looking and discreet piece of hardware. It couples beautifully with my 1440p, HDR 120hz monitor.
The only issue was gonna be storage space, but you can get external SSDs for pretty cheap and that solves that problem right there. Yes it's true you can't install X|S optimized games on an external SSD that isn't that overpriced xbox brand seagate one, but I just use the internal storage for series X|S games and my external SSD for all my xbox one games. Works great.
You combine the value of a series S with the phenomenal value of gamepass, throw in a budget external SSD - and you're next gen gaming for a fraction of the price that most people seem to be paying.
Personally I used those savings to splurge on a monitor (spent more on the monitor than I did on the console) - got the best monitor I could that wasn't 4k. All in all I felt like I got a pretty amazong deal. I was gonna build a PC for this gen, but I couldn't figure out a way to get the same value as I would from a series S, given that I wasn't interested in 4k and I just wanted the HDR and high refresh rate. The loss of PC games selection was gonna be a bummer, but that was outweighed by just how mindblowingly good value the xbox game pass has been.

I love this so much. 🙂 I own the Series X, the Series S (it's in a different room), and the PS5. I was a full blown Nintendo guy for years, but these new Xbox systems have me going to team green lately. Game Pass is just so good, I play so many different games that I'd never have given a chance before. Love the analysis, great review with how you found the differences between the systems.
You mentioned the small storage space on the series s will be a struggle as your library grows but Microsoft are introducing a new feature at the end of this year in your game pass ultimate subscription where you can essentially “play before you download” allowing you to play any game on gamepass without the need to download, then once you feel you like the game you can then download and get the full game experience because games streamed via xcloud are 1080p whereas series s is native 1440p.

"Assuming I could even get a PS5..." I felt that lol Even though I do actually have one but that was only thru sheer luck and a friend getting it for me (I paid him back, of course!). I'm not normally an early adopter, I think both the PS4 and PS5 coming into my hands early only worked out because I play FF14 which is an on going MMO and having the newer system (and getting it while the upgraded game itself is free if you already had it) really benefited it since load times were SO much faster and I lagged way less. Genshin Impact also runs a lot smoother as well. If it weren't for those two games, I would have waited too. Still, I'm glad you got something you really wanted and I hope the XBox S works out for you!! :3

Which is long enough to not trip over in the living room but if it does it just breaks away at the magnet so its not causing damage to the USB C port.

I’m so glad to see the older generations taking their place in the gaming-information ecosystem. Just a very pleasant alternative to most of the bombast in gaming media. And I agree - cross-platform gaming is the way to be… Also, I think I’ll be using this video for ASMR.

I'm really surprised at the number of people who've told me they use my voice in the background and for ASMR. 😀

@@Food4Dogs I also watch the “Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler” channel for ASMR (John’s probably a generation older than you). Perhaps a grandmotherly/grandfatherly voice produces a sense of soothing tranquility in the listener. Could be due to a not-yet-understood bio-evolutionary reason… but I’m just speculating.

This is one of the best channels that have been suggested to me. This video is so soothing and also informative and well spoken. Thank you.
