I don't understand how this song never took off in the US?! It's a masterpiece and could've been an even bigger hit than it already is if it charted there.
According to her book, her label tried to push her but it was going to be a 6 months promotional campaign at a time where a lot of British pop stars were struggling to break into the US so she passed.
She used to be a fashion model, then she became a singer. But every time I watch this music video, I can't help thinking she would have been a wonderful actress. Edit: I would never have thought, so many people would agree with me. Love from France.
When I saw this video as a kid, I always thought she must be an awful person in real life too. And I still don't like her to this day, so I probably wouldn't like her as an actress either. Plus TH-cam and other streaming services weren’t what they are now, back then… we have algorithms now that can push forward other content that matches what you listen to. Ai is a thing… like exposure to international artists was limited unless they spent $$$$ for international promo and it mattered what platforms you consumed music from as well.
The use of GD in the lyrics didn’t help its case for radio play. The US is deeply puritanical and usage of foul language was just not accepted in female pop music. The ones who used it in their songs, didn’t get to experience the same level of success. Not even Madonna could get away with cussing in music. It’s a different story after 2003.

Saltburn and Z100 brought me here. Clearly, after 20 years of this song being released, nobody has dared to kill the groove. 😊 Thank you, Sopie!
Sophie Ellis-Bextor's voice alone sent me back in time to the early 2000's. Gabrielle's voice does that to me too, I love these vibes.😁👍🏾
How Sophie wore the sparkling eye make-up at the BAFTAs 2024 as she did 23 years ago. Shame the "stomp" and "clsp" was missed, but truly amazing performance by SEB. She hasn't changed a bit. Murder on the Dancefloor used at end of Salburn movie was classic. Superb film. Song is timeless.
3:35 i love how she looks at the money lol 😂
1:46 does it for me.
For all you Gen Zers who recently discovered this song… it was inescapable throughout Europe in the spring of 2002. Hit hard then, hits hard now.
Funk is timeless
Yeah lol, I remember this song playing everywhere endlessly.
I didn't like it, but now it's a classic and I was proven wrong 😅
Gen z were 6-4 when this song came out. The new generation you are referring to are the gen alpha
@@myth8334I meant what I said. It was a bunch of people in their 20s (Gen Z) that sent this song back into the charts at the end of 2023.
The unsung heroes in this video: those beautiful violin arragements.
This could have been written today. Timeless song.
Check out Anastacia's "I'm Outta Love" if you've never heard it. KILLS ME!

Modern music sucks dick
Or in the late 70s
Remembering listening to this song in december 2002 in Colombia. Time just flies by.
I literally never heard this song until a few weeks ago. HOW is that?!? It kicks ass! Amazing 70s disco sound.
XD Nice, I heard it 23 years ago in radio when i was 5 xdd
90's Darling. Do not confuse
I find it very strange that I also have NEVER heard this song until February of this year and then I see it says 2001. How??? I grew up listening to the radio in the 90s and 2000s. Where was it playing that I never heard it? I’m so confused. Now I have it on repeat. Yeah I love that disco sound. I always play 70s disco music.❤

This type of pop needs to come back. It’s so upbeat, happy and just simply amazing
Yes u're right, happy ! When this song was released, I put sound to the max in my car and I was dancing while driving lol ^^
The act was phenomenal and the song is a classic now. Great

That movie was fcked up crazy! 😂
This song was always such a banger. Kind of has a Daft Punk type of vibe to it.
Yes❤❤❤❤❤
I don't understand how this song never took off in the US?! It's a masterpiece and could've been an even bigger hit than it already is if it charted there.
just simple reason : the singer isn't American...that's all
Maybe, her daddy's attitude was wearing them thin 🎉
She even used the expression "goddamm"" too.
Many British act have smashed rhe American charts
According to her book, her label tried to push her but it was going to be a 6 months promotional campaign at a time where a lot of British pop stars were struggling to break into the US so she passed.
She used to be a fashion model, then she became a singer. But every time I watch this music video, I can't help thinking she would have been a wonderful actress.
Edit: I would never have thought, so many people would agree with me.
Love from France.
When I saw this video as a kid, I always thought she must be an awful person in real life too. And I still don't like her to this day, so I probably wouldn't like her as an actress either. Some roles just stick with the actor for a lifetime. Like Bruce Willis will always be the guy from Die Hard... But the music's awesome.
@@somedudeok1451 she's a lovely lass in real life.mates of mine have met her and say easily the nicest celeb you could meet.
Heh, well being the nicest person among a bunch of snobs isn't that big an achievement, but I believe you. ;-)
@@somedudeok1451 Nice generalising👍
She's a looker!
Alot of Americans missed out on Murder on the Dance Floor. But thanks to Saltburn everyone now gets to hear from this gem of a music.
Totally missed this one.
Straight Americans. We gays were on this from the beginning. Total call to the dancefloor back in the day.
What is Saltburn? 🤔

I love this song and this movie since 2001!!
The foot stomps and hand claps actually really suit the song

IKR? It's way too different when you hear just the track and then come to video again. Ps. Love how they synchronized the "Altogether" part with the song.

You're ok
In retrospect, an outstanding pop song. Enourmsly catchy , 20 years later
It's class

Great to see this absolute banger of a tune being appreciated by another generation. Timeless classic.
Why am I just now hearing this song being played? It's like seven years old and I only just now heard it on the radio??? It's awesome.
it's from 2002... so it's 22 yo😅

Everything is magnificent-the song, the story, the dances, and Sophie’s brilliant performance 👏

RIP to all who got murdered on the dance floor. 😥
It's crazy that this song was such a huge hit all over the world but not in the US, Americans really slept on this banger.
It wasn’t promoted in the U.S. like it was overseas. You can’t listen to something you aren’t aware exists…
Indeed, America is not the center of the universe tough. This was officially the most listened song in 2002 in Europe! It Was such a hit!
@@nahuelconstantineyeah i’m aware we aren’t the center of the universe and I’ve never believed as such. I’m saying it makes sense for them to spend the most money promoting it in their location of origin (home field advantage ) vs other countries. But op is acting like Americans deliberately slept on this when it was never even brought to the table 💀 you can’t enjoy something you aren’t aware exists.
@@nahuelconstantine and the video was playing all the time in MTV Latin America
The use of GD in the lyrics didn’t help its case for radio play. The US is deeply puritanical and usage of foul language was just not accepted in female pop music.
The ones who used it in their songs, didn’t get to experience the same level of success.
Not even Madonna could get away with cussing in music.
It’s a different story after 2003.
This music video really does fit the saltburn movie well 😂😂
Não conheço esse filme.

Classy woman. Absolutely stole my heart.
There's just something about the added "STOMP" in the music video that makes the song more enjoyable

There are other versions but they just don't have the stuff now do they ha

RIGHT??!!! really fun honestly
I’ve seen Sophie live twice and she was absolutely mind blowingly flawless and beautiful 💖💖💖💝💝💝
Sophie perfected the art of moving very minimally on the dance floor while looking like the world's most expensive porcelain doll piece. 20 years ago here in the UK, she was a very big deal in music for red bloodied fellas like me.
