There's a major difference. There's millions of hot girls out there but very few have the look, the charisma, and attitude to be labeled as beautiful. It's obviously subjective, but I definitely don't see it in Marina.
There's so much sadness behind this. Which I think a lot of people don't see or get. Notice how she's struggling to keep her composure for the cameras as the video goes on, and that when she finally gets into the car wash she escapes them for two seconds and can finally breathe - but she's still tense and looking around for more cameras. She never really gets a rest. What she's showing here is that the "primadonna" life isn't really all that it seems. Everybody expects you to be happy, smiling and perfect 24/7. It's almost like a parody on other big pop stars like Britney and Katy who probably deal with the same pressure. She's very subtly showing the dark side of it all. She's unhappy and it's not an easy life. It really makes me feel for her but hey, nothing we can do. That's the life they chose. Still, a lot deeper than what everyone is judging it for. Just pay attention. She also subtly hints to this truth again in the titular song "Electra Heart" with the line "lights, they blind me", alluding to her distress for all the cameras flashing. "Can we go back?"

This song, like the rest of the album, is all part of one big elaborate tale. The story of different archetypes. And they're all kind of sad. Even this one.
Overthought it? Yes... But how do you think anyone figures anything out? This is so much better than all the adolescent comments theorizing how oh so perfect she thinks she is because she's "mom" or "queen". She most certainly is queen, but that's way besides the point. At least this comment has some depth.

There's so much sadness behind this. Which I think a lot of people don't see or get. Notice how she's struggling to keep her composure for the cameras as the video goes on, and that when she finally gets into the car wash she escapes them for two seconds and can finally breathe - but she's still tense and looking around for more cameras. She never really gets a rest.
What she's showing here is that the "primadonna" life isn't really all that it seems. Everybody expects you to be happy, smiling and perfect 24/7. It's almost like a parody on other big pop stars like Britney and Katy who probably deal with the same pressure. She's very subtly showing the dark side of it all. She's unhappy and it's not an easy life.
It really makes me feel for her but hey, nothing we can do. That's the life they chose. Still, a lot deeper than what everyone is judging it for. Just pay attention. She also subtly hints to this truth again in the titular song "Electra Heart" with the line "lights, they blind me", alluding to her distress for all the cameras flashing. "Can we go back?"

Goozoozoo117 Not necessarily. People forget just how deep this album is. It's dark pop, not bubblegum pop. I got tired of seeing all the shallow comments. This song, like the rest of the album, is all part of one big elaborate tale. The story of different archetypes. And they're all kind of sad. Even this one.
Overthought it? Yes... But how do you think anyone figures anything out? This is so much better than all the adolescent comments theorizing how oh so perfect she thinks she is because she's "mom" or "queen". She most certainly is queen, but that's way besides the point. At least this comment has some depth.
