    Excellent video!! You covered more stuff logically and cost wise then I have seen with other videos here on You-Tube! Thanks for all the information and I saved this site so I can refer others to it for education needs on new buyers!! We here in Montana are right now 12 degrees and I personally am using a friend's (Big buddy heater) and the damn thing is cooking me out at the low selection - i am in a RV so room and space much smaller. We also just now lost a furnace here in a home across the street and we have two of these units maintaining the whole house using 20 lbs bottles right now....it's holding the inside temps well!! Thanks for a solid video on the product...the makers of the heaters should pay ya for the solid review of them.

    Thanks. I have watched many videos on the small version but this is my first for the larger one. For winter back up I did purchase the larger one with the blower but it is still in the box. I did buy one long hose but now after your video I will buy another hose. We have lots of the small 5 gallon propane tanks but I have many of the slightly larger tanks, I think 7 gallon, and one tall tank, not sure of the size. We like cooking on propane camping stoves and we have a setup for BBQing in the winter. Greenhouse use for tropical and cacti in the winter is necessary to keep them alive.
    Now my small heater I use outside, I hate being trapped in the house. On it I use a hose with a smaller propane tank. I have always used the hose made for the Mr Heater but last year I started having trouble with the pilot light not working. I was told that there is probably a clog and that I should have used a filter. Husband is going to check on cleaning and installing a filter.
    Your times for running the tanks tells me I need to buy more larger propane tanks as we also run a propane patio heater and a propane cook griddle. All of you doing these videos is very helpful for this old lady. I'm learning new to me everyday.

    Thanks for the informative video. One correction though, the oil that clogs filters and can damage unfiltered LP appliances is actually an odorant added to LP tanks, to warn of leaks. Since propane is odorless, see this from Wikipedia: Ethanethiol is intentionally added to butane and propane (see: LPG) to impart an easily noticed smell to these normally odorless fuels that pose the threat of fire, explosion, and asphyxiation.

    We live in our rv in the texas hill country. Our furnace went out a couple years ago, We have been using electric space heaters since. They do the job but just not quite like we like it. My husband bought a Mr buddy last week and we tried it out. I am amazed at how warm it made the rv. It actually warmed the entire 42ft 5 slide rv in less then 30 mins. 3 space heaters can't even do that in hrs. I'm definitely sold on it. Sure wish we had it back in 21 when we lost electricity. At least we know if we go off the grid we can still have heat and also something to cook on as I seen on another video.

    Good video.... if you are a DIY 'er. You can heat your whole home for hours and hours off a car or deep cycle RV battery.
    Let me clarify. If your home has a gas furnace. It runs off 110 volts. Same as a table lamp or toaster. The thing you must have is a 1000 watt inverter. Find the breaker box and find your FURNACE BREAKER . Yout furnace will have the 110 Volt wires running into your furnace. Disconnect these wires from your furnace and wire them to a pigtail plug. Then run the plug to the inverter. Plug the inverter to your DEEP CYCLE RV BATTERY and turn on the inverter. Set your thermostat at 65 degrees and you can heat your entire home off a battery. Just a thought. I've had to do it and it worked out well. If your not sure of the wiring. Maybe ask a friend to help. I always take a picture to refer to.

    Good informative video. As always best way to roll is to vent as it allows for possibility of gas leakage not to build up. I use modified rocket stoves, a kerosene heater & several buddy heaters. Nothing is off if I am sleeping or not present to keep an eye on things. Always check your propane l kerosene supply and keep them clean. Before using equipment check to make that it’s clean and ready to roll. I also have a fire alarm as well as a CO monitor Keep those both lean and make sure thy work properly.

    I have a little buddy hooked to a 500 gallon tank 3/8 inch copper line and a regulator I started using it in October 2017 and January 2021 it quit working the therma couple went out so I bought a new heater. And I have an Ecofan wood stove fan setting on top of the stove. It burns 160 gallons each winter.

    Hello sir,, Can you talk about how & when you might need a high pressure regulator for this heater, and you could hook up propane hose to where 1 lb tank goes with the built in regulator as opposed to the quick connect for low pressure system going to heater..

    These heaters are great. You can still convert the smaller buddy heater to run on a 30 lb tank.

    ALWAYS HAVE A CO2/FIRE ALARM IN THE ROOM!
    Never had a problem with CO2 or fire, but still. Safety is safety.
    I live in Climate Zone 5. I use the Big Buddy to heat a 12x12' bedroom built in the back of a lofted shed with R15 insulation in the walls and R5 1" thick styrofoam insulation with reflective surface on the ceiling under the loft and partition wall. It keeps the space quite comfortable on low setting.
    Most days in the winter, I only have to run it for about 10 hours on low during the night. The first couple weeks of January, it runs continuously on low.
    Currently (mid-January, 2023) they are in stock locally at Home Depot and Tractor Supply for $139. TS's version has a green panel but has the fan just like the red panel. When I bought mine, no one had the combo hose. I bought a 12' hose and a separate fuel filter -- both Mr. Heater brand -- and they work fine.
    I connect mine to a 40# tank [WHICH IS NEITHER RECOMMENDED OR APPROVED], but I have had no problems in doing so. Just FYI. The 40# tank (32# propane) lasts 6.75 days at continuous use. But lasts 2 weeks using it 10 hours a day on low.

    • @thecampdogsdad4937
      @thecampdogsdad4937 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A regulator is not necessary if using the screw in hose, because the hose is threading into the built in regulator. It would appear to me that a in-line regulator (in the hose) is necessary for the quick connect hose because it is not attaching to the built in regulator.

    Hi, really enjoyed your video. I'm new to these heaters and have a Big Buddy and the smaller Tough Buddy. And have a question about regulators. I see that the Big buddy has regulators on the screw on connection but not on the Quick connecter so it has it on the hose. I can't see if the smaller Tough buddy has a regulator on it since it does not tilt out and is covered by a plate.

      It's also quieter than running generators.
      During the worst weeks of winter, I get 1 week of continuous burn on low off a 40# tank. 2 weeks if I only run it 10 hours during the night. Propane costs .75/lb here. After tax, it runs $16 and change for a 20# tank. $32 and change for a 40#. Compare that to your cost of constantly running a generator. I only use my generator for a few minutes at a time to run my microwave or for 1 hour to recharge the 40v batteries I use in my inverter to run the LED lights/phone charger. Each 40v 6ah battery gives me 3-5 hours of juice. Considering I get 16 hours off of 2 gallons of gas in my generator, that's a lot of extra energy off of little expense thanks to these heaters.

    I love the video thanks for sharing it. My heat has been out since Dec 2, 2022. I borrowed the little buddy from a friend with a gas tank a little bigger than the barb-q style tank. He called it a 10-pound tank. It's great but it does smell of propane. My question is, If I buy the Bif Buddy heater can I run full power on one 10-pound tank, or do I need to buy two tanks? I know very little about these heaters and hooking the big tanks up. I have a small apartment. Can you give any advice on the tanks and where to buy the heater from? Thank you. Stay well & safe.

    • @blindjustice8718
      @blindjustice8718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I connect a single 40# tank to my Big Buddy. If you connect a larger tank (than 1# camp stove ones), you only need 1 tank. Using my 40# tank, it will last 1 week on low continuously or 2 weeks if I only run it at night.
      You can buy them at Tractor Supply (it will have a green panel instead of red) or Home Depot for $139. A 12' hose and fuel filter (necessary) probably runs another $35 to $40. Your 20# propane tank will cost another $60. A 40# tank runs $115. Then there is the cost of propane. Here it costs me $16 and change after tax to fill a 20# tank and $32 and change to fill a 40# tank.

    We lost power and the little one kept us pretty warm on low for a mid size living room. I’m thinking it’s probably at least 300 sq ft.
    However, like you said: expensive and it didn’t last five hours, but more like 3.5-4.5 .
    So I was thinking I’d get a 20lb tank, but keep reading about how one should never use a 20lb tank in their home?
    Everything everywhere says no, but there have got to be people out there who use indoor propane heaters with 20lb tanks.

    How Well does Buddy Heater Company Back Up its Heaters ? Will they Need Repairs ? Does the Company Repair Mr. Heaters if Failures Happen or if Bad Hose Clogs up the Heater or Pilot ?

  • @zorbbful
    @zorbbful 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm not sure if I missed it but I didn't see where you put the fuel filter which is imperative for safety as dirt from the fuel will clog up the orifice and it will start to put out carbon monoxide.
    It should also be noted that the oxygen sensor is not very relevant because you can still be getting carbon monoxide poisoning from that heater while you have oxygen present. This is especially the case with this heater since carbon monoxide is lighter than oxygen and it will build up where you are breathing all the while the heater on the ground is getting plenty of oxygen and will continue to put out a deadly situation of carbon monoxide poisoning. I nearly died from using this heater.

    • @tateabdon1
      @tateabdon1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do not need a filter if you're using their hose the filter is for oil that builds up in hoses that are not produced by mr. Heater you can look on their website for this information also even though the cheater does put out carbon monoxide and I always recommend having a carbon monoxide detector there are many videos that show a putting out very little if any carbon dioxide enough that it can even be detected with a carbon dioxide detector as you indicated I would definitely rather be safe than sorry though thank you for the comment I really appreciate it hope you have a great day

      “In most propane appliance situations, there is a regulator located at the tank, followed by a supply line. In that situation, what passes through the hose after the regulator is low pressure gas. Low pressure gas is harmless to rubber. The buddy system has the regulator located at the heater. In this setup you cannot have a regulator at the propane tank due to over-regulating the gas supply. This makes the gas that passes through the hose to get to the buddy system high pressure. High pressure gas squeezes rubber as it passes through it, and can occasionally pull some of the oils and plasticizers from the hose during these periods of high pressure. Those contaminates will travel with the flow of propane and land somewhere inside the heater, slowly building up over time and causing gas flow problems once the buildup becomes large enough. The 10' buddy hose does not contain any plasticizers or oily contaminates that will leach out of the hose during high pressure propane flow. That is why that hose does not need a filter. All of the other hoses for the buddy system will need a filter because they will contain oils and plasticizers.”

    Thanks, i learned something. i did not know about big buddy needing 2 1lb bottles in order for the high setting to work.
    Please explain something in a way my dim bulb noggin can understand.
    How does the 9000btu setting work on both size heaters? My brain can't see how the one element heater can have a low and a high setting. With the big one, my brain thinks you could only have two heat settings - one element for one btu temp on one and a second element for a higher btu.
