    Thats right! You can hook up two 20# propane tanks to your Big Buddy Heater. You MUST use a filter with the hoses to maintain proper operation of the heater itself. I contacted Mr heater and asked before doing this video, I hope it help those who have been wondering about what to do with that other side. Just buy 2 tanks, 2 hoses and two filters and you are set for the long haul on those cold night!
    BE SAFE AND USE PROPER VENTILATION WHEN USING ANY PROPANE HEATERS!

    Also, you can run the big buddy heater at full BTU's
    On only one 20# bottle, on one side or the other...
    I would suggest you use a filter on any bodys hoses..
    But it's my suggestion to use all Mr. Buddy accessories & there hoses...

    I just used my little buddy heater in my cabin and it burned through the little green propane canister so fast. Thank you for making this video, my problem is solved! Important to note that white thread tape is for plumbing. The yellow thread tape is for gas fittings. Hope you stay warm!

    I will guaranTEE ya'll that them 2 big tanks are workin' that heater slap *ss OUT. You will get some heat. He is right about folks could have used this set up when Texas went withOUT power in the winter storm. All they needed was the setup he just showed you, with extra propane tanks. They would have SAILED thru that storm if they just were prepared for it.

    I got one portable heater ,,
    A 76.00 value @ Walmart.
    A heater of the same in the box brand new for helping a friend for two hrs of my time... The friend got them from his brother in law, the brother in law had three of them on a shelf in his garage and had no interest in them..
    I am going to see if the brother in law has the third one for 40 bucks, that's what he actually sold them for.. My friend paid for one for my time, but hell, I should get the other one if he still has it for 40 bucks..
    Ya can never have too many buddy heaters..
    I,m just saying.. 😊😊😊😊

    Big Buddy does make "some hoses" now that need no filter. But it will say on the hose when you buy it. Just make sure you buy the ones that say no filter needed if thats what you want. Those certain hoses are made differently so they require no filter!! The first hoses they made do require a filter. It will say on the package which is which. Thanks for the video!!

    BACK UP man,,
    Check for any propane leaks before lighting up unit...
    At least with a sniff test right at connections if you don't have soapy foam..
    You could wait for a time and look for frost on connectors or connections as well. Do Not Over Tighten Green Bottles or Hoses.
    More permanent situations, you could put yellow gas tape on threads , but only 2 wraps..
    And no yellow gas tape is needed on 20# gas Bottle...it has a tapered fit, made Not to leak...

    I agree get prepped. I have several ways to heat and cool. I’ve been using my Mr Heater Buddy for a few minutes in the mornings in my living room. It’s safe if you know what you’re doing. The 20 pound propane tank is in the same room. I’m using a 10 ft hose so it’s pretty far away from the heat.

  • @flyingtigre1239
    @flyingtigre1239 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    No. Not white tape but yellow tape is used for gas. White is for water pipes. I think for safety you’d want one tank turned on at a time, less dangerous. 20lb tanks with 4-1/2 lbs of propane. Depending on settings low lasts for hours I use it in my camper during freezing snow mountains and love this thing.

  • @jaycelliott2
    @jaycelliott2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think if you get the 10' hoses by Mr Buddy those are good to use without the filter. I've got mine on 2 years now with no issues. I use the 5' hoses with the filters.

    • @wvgrrrrl
      @wvgrrrrl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct - Mr. Heater 10' hose Model #F273704 does not require a filter, as it's made from a different material than their other hoses, and does not exude a substance which can clog the burner.

    @sixshooter4570 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Nice video, you don't need a filter with the quick disconnect and regulator because it's a low pressure, ½ lb, but the way your doing it you do need a filter unless you're running a OEM hose from Big Buddy as it won't leach oil like other hoses will due to the higher pressure.

      @ZootyZoFo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the filter is needed when you are using a conversion hose to run the Buddy heater off of a 20 lb propane tank. The problem is with the hose, or rather some of them will bleed oil when under pressure and this oil clogs the heater up which will destroy it. Some of the newer hoses don’t bleed oil when under pressure but I always use a filter when using a conversion hose with my heater, it’s cheap insurance.

      I stated as much.

    • @ZootyZoFo
      @ZootyZoFo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sixshooter4570 - Not really, a lot of what you said is just not true. You mentioned disconnecting a hose with a regulator on it when in fact a hose with a regulator won’t even work because the Buddy heaters all have regulators built in. Also it’s not a 1/2 pound bottle, it’s a 1 pound bottle and these disposable bottles are not “low pressure” as you said, they have the exact same pressure as a 20 or 30 pound propane tank has which IS high pressure. You don’t need a filter with many of the new propane conversion hoses as you stated because they don’t leach oil it either as the inner layer of the hose is lined on modern hoses just like the Mr. Heater hoses. Furthermore the 10 Ft Mr. Heater hose didn’t need a filter originally and it was the only hose they made that didn’t need it, all of the shorter hoses did but it depends on when you bought it as the new Mr. Heater hoses are lined as are all quality modern conversion hoses. It’s best to use the $12 filter to be on the safe side but the filter also adds two additional points of failure & propane leakage, all connections should be tested for leaks with soapy water if your tank is going to be close to the ignition source or inside a tent or building which is never should never be if at all possible.

    With the Big Buddy, you can use up to 3 bulk tanks by using the quick connect too.
    It's always a good idea to use a filter, if for no other reason than dirt getting into the hose. There are only 2 situations where you might not need a filter, one is if you have a hose that doesn't leach under pressure, the other is if you're using a regulator at the bulk tank, since the hose won't be under pressure.
    If the hose is flexible, it will probably leach under pressure.

    keeping the tanks indoors is not a problem at all i have a few 100lb tanks indoor the danger is simple and very avoidable first off propane don't just blow up it like any other fuel source has to reach a magic blending number of air to fuel ration 3.8-8.4 i think may not be exact but is defiantly within the range of magic McBroom point being the benefit of storing a tank inside is that it wont freeze and lose performance and stop the process of phase change from liquid to gas is quite cold and if outside in freezing weather where its already cold below freezing is the performance (FLOW) will decrease drastically what the danger is when your smart and get your tanks like shown 20lb cylinders filled they are actually full (20lbs of propane 4.3 gallons I believe ) filling is best to be cold tank old also and then filled to hold the most is that when they warm up to room temp full the over pressure valve will pop and piss out propane wherever they are sitting the very simple way to prevent this is hook it up immediately and use to prevent over pressure from the expansion of propane based on temp
    not complicated at least I don't think so one but if unaware or wanting to be cautious a swapped 20lb grill style cylinder at the local store is only filled to 75% to leave room for expansion in summer heat and winter temps or up and down
    filled tanks have little to NO expansion buffer a swapped cylinder more expensive has a 25% buffer its a DOT REG and its not only more expensive you get 15lbs in a 20lb tank so if your not a fucking moron get them filled and immediately start using or store outside but if used immediately there is no problem even when a 100lb tank decided to pop off and vent in my house that's not the real danger its venting that makes the mix (MAGIC RATIO) and as that happens is the most dangerous ask me how I know a foom filled with propane above 8.5% or greater will lead to suffocation at best not from an explosion

    After watching this video and watching your video on how to refill the one pound bottles it begs the question, "Do you now have to use a filter with the one lb refills?"

    Both Buddy Heaters actually have Low Oxygen Shut offs built in to their heaters, so if you use up all the oxygen in your area, the heaters will automatically shut themselves down. So no need to have a CO2 Detector for any of the Buddy Heaters.

    Good video but I got a question how long on the refill small bottles after refill ing the bottles how long can you keep the bottles let say two years will the gas go bad?

    • @trumpingtonfanhurst694
      @trumpingtonfanhurst694 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Propane lasts a long long time - it will just about never go bad by itself, the limitation is how long the cylinder lasts.
      30 years easy.

    You can connect both propane tanks together and use one side of the Big Buddy heater and save a lot of money.

    Will this work with a 15 lb tank using the same hoses? I'm asking because I'm a small female and 15lb tanks are easier for me to carry. Thank you!

    • @ZootyZoFo
      @ZootyZoFo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it will work but I suggest getting a 5 lb Flame King propane tank and use that with a conversion hose so it can run all night & day without having to swap new bottles. It holds as much propane as 5 green bottles and it only cost $5 to fill at my local Uhaul.

      @@gregorymattison6007 I called them because I was confused, they said that during the hose making process there is oils that are left in the hoses and the filters are to catch those oils so they don't clog the ceramic elements

    • @chawnslopoke2619
      @chawnslopoke2619 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gregorymattison6007 yea I would to be safe, they did tell me that they would not warranty it if we use a hose without a filter and they're cheap. I have no idea how long they last but I assume a long time. It's worth it just to avoid the hassle lol

    I was always taught never to use teflon(white ) tape in propane. And always spray soapy water to test connections

    • @lifewiththepettways7281
      @lifewiththepettways7281  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can use soapy water, just make sure all fittings are snub. White tape is what came with the propane hose. Apparently there is white propane tape out there.

    • @SmokinZen
      @SmokinZen 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The tape is not for a seal but makes it easier for removal that’s all

      I believe each side is independent and isolated from the other. If one side runs dry it simply shuts off.
