So as someone from Germany 👋 I have some things to say 😂 First of all there won't be a new macan ICE the electric version is just the new one. They still produce and sell the old one but there won't be a new version. Second you shouldn't compare the macan to the sq8 because the macan is on the same platform as the new Audi Q6 etron which will come out in march. Then you can compare these two cars. It's like in the past Q5 and Macan ICE are on the same platform but now it's the Q6 and the Macan electric Edit: the Macan won't be sold from the 1. Juli on in the EU due to a new law about cybersecurity in cars.
Originally Porsche (and other car manufacturers) used “Turbo” to highlight the turbocharged engine as a premium feature. I don’t think they should have started using it for non-turbo cars. They should have come up with a new term. Alas, this is an old debate at this point and we just have to accept that they now use it to designate top performance trims.
I think you can give Audi the same heritage bonus regarding the light bar. It's part of a few of the most iconic Audis of all time with the 90s RS2 and Cabriolet.
The rear to me is a product of lighting. This is where most car companies fail miserably. Its their opportunity to distinguish their brand even more than the front of the car. For example, you can tell a Cadillac from a mile away, day or night. No name or logo needed. I don't know of any other car on the road today capable of identifying itself like that.
I do think the Taycan looks better than the Panamera, but the ICE macan imo looks better than the EV macan, not that the EV macan is ugly, it's very beautiful.
The Porsche design is without a doubt the more sporty, but that sleek coupefied look comes at the cost of lowering its functions as an SUV. At t his point, I'd call it a fastback not an SUV, since the "U" in utility is virtually non-existent. Anyway, the best reason to choose the Audi is that you get 9/10 the Porsche performance for a lot less -- yet maintains all of its SUV advantages e.g. headroom/passenger/cargo space, etc. Yet still get a relatively sporty and modern design Sure the Porsche leads with all out performance, but their interiors are entry level economy unless heavily optioned from a long list which include basic things -- such as decent heated and ventilated seats -- which you get as standard on the Audi. Almost every item of luxury in Porsches are options, raising the price precipitously. Speaking of designs, who decided dedicated EVs should even look like traditional ICE vehicles in the first place? Operationally they need very little (if any) front-ends at all. On the positive side, I applaud both Audi and Porsche for no trending that eye sore of a rise to the lower longitudinal line of the rear door window. Additionally, a huge credit for maintaining the traditional panoramic sunroof which you can still open.
This is the ppe platform it's ev only. Porsche is not doing a brand new Macan ice. They may refresh the current one more time but ultimately ice is going away for this nameplate
I have an E Tron and it sounds similar to the Taycan/Macan. The sound is actually really nice - futuristic and not trying to be something it’s not (I.e. not a fake exhaust note like the Ioniq 5n). The Macan Turbo (like the Taycan GTS and Turbo) should have a unique, louder/deeper sound which should be a positive element.
Are you familiar with term -- resting on your laurels? Here's the thing: Porsche, built its reputation from years and years of design and balance and matching of engines and transmission. Now once they move to EVs, all that uniqueness and precise balance and component unity goes away. The power of an electric motor is just a matter of increasing the flow of electrons.
Had the opportunity to drive the Macan EV for a full day. Design is definitely growing on me. Tech and convenience is great. The HUD is like a video game, but gets too distracting on the long run. Downsides, not as fast as other EVs and does not feel as premium inside. Especially the middle storage compartment. Other thing I noticed, it’s so wide inside that there is no place to rest your arms on the side.
Agree with the comments that the Macan EV should be compared with the upcoming Q6 E-Tron rather than the Q8 or S Q8. The Macan and the Q6 share the same dimensions and platform, the Q8 is just larger than the Macan - and by a material degree!
The new platform the Macan uses is EV only and from what I know, there won’t be an ICE Macan in the future as Porsche states that the EV is the better option.
No it did not. It switched between supported frequencies. 33 MHz/ 66 MHz for the 486 for example.

New Macan EV in based on brand new Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which ismodular car platform for electric cars developed by Porsche and Audio. There will be Audi Q6 based on this platform revealed later this year. Q8 e-tron is built on ICE platform.
I think removing the upper rear spoiler makes the rear 3/4 and side profile look strange. the gas macan and cayenne coupe show that it probably should keep that imo
My main issue with the Macan EV's design is actually the wheels. The long wheelbase and the 23-inch wheels make the car look like a toy to be, almost like a Hot Wheels version of a Porsche.
I really like how the new Macan looks apart from the 22" wheels. I have never like those "looking-like-a-train" type wheels. Would probably buy with 20" also for better comfort, max 21". Have 20" on my Taycan 4S and they are perfect.
Sadly, over here in Europe, we will not be getting the Macan ICE. Purely on the looks I'd take the Porsche, but the Audi here is substantially cheaper, and the cost of upkeep will also be about a half. Moreover, in a few months, there will be more Audis at the dealerships than the Porsches, so you will get a better deal. On a side note though: Macan and SQ8 are two different vehicles, two segments. The SQ6 is Macan's sibling.
They're not made by the same company. They're part of the same group. They pull from the same parts bin, but the cars are miles apart. They don't even look alike. Would you call the expenditure of electrical energy combustion?
Audi has lost so much identity. Back in early 2010's Audis were the best thing. When you compare an E class, 3 series, and an A4, the A4 looked a generation ahead, at least for me. It was the true symbol of futurism. The LED headlights were innovative back then and they were beautiful. I don't even need to talk about the interior. But then the dieselgate stuff happened and everything has changed. Now if feels like Audi is out of the competition. They're just not on par with Merc and BMW anymore. Audi's design these days are not necessarily bad, but definitely looks a generation behind and lost a lot of its charm and the brilliance it had back then. Audi used to be my favorite car manufacturer back then. I mean, for real. It was special. Too sad to see things go this was and in this era of EVs and crossovers, I hope Audi makes a comeback someday with something completely different.
Completely opposite for me. Out of all the german brands, Audi is the only brand who still release decent looking cars. All the other german brands have new cars that look disgusting.
Audi worked hard to develop their identity and get ahead of BMW and Merc from the mid 90s up until about 2018. Peak Audi was the B8/C7/D4/4S gen of 2012 to 2018. These cars just nailed functionality, reliability, performance and design. Perfect blend of modern tech, and appearance but with timeless design. The MMI from my 2014 S7 is still one of the most logically laid out ive ever used (6 years at a Porsche/Audi dealership, ive used them all). I get stopped all the time asking about my 10 year old car, still turns heads today. The C7 A7 body is one of the most brilliant automotive designs of all time, the more you look at how all the lines and angle come together on the car, the more beautiful it becomes. This is very ironic to me, as when I first saw it in person in 2011, I thought it was ugly. All good things take time to fully comprehend and appreciate.
That new Macan launches without any ICE option shows (i) how useless this is for even mild offroad service, and (ii) how desperate the VW and Porsche groups are to push EVs after huge overinvestment in a currently uncompetitive technology

The word turbo doesn't necessarily have to refer to ICE vehicles. The word could also refer to simply speed and performance.
That might be true if turbo was derived from a turbo which is a mechanical device used in ICE vehicles.
Turbo should mean turbo

its also branding…for Porsche it just means its the top of the line
