Interesting video, but I think it focused too much on consumption, whereas a large part of the second half of the book heavily criticizes the State and religion. There's also the matter of debt, which is a spook that can serve as a tool to kill consumerism. In other words, nothing is used to buy nothing. Nothing was lost or alienated.
@voiboi405 Debt is something imaginary, it doesn't exist. If you take cash from the bank and use it to buy products, theoretically you used something that doesn't exist to buy the product. Nothing was alienated.
