    That thing sounds great! Like that little muffler. I had an old Honda a few years back that always started like that, cold or hot it started quicker than my F.I. bikes. Wish I didn't have to sell it

  • @ianmikesell3114

    So since you bumped your jets up to 110s does that mean that the larger jets restrict more air flow to compensate for the pod filters.

  • @jaybird99100
    @jaybird99100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Curious what type of pods filters you used and what your main and idle jets will be set at to accommodate the changes? Thanks, great videos, really informative.

    • @ClassicOctane
      @ClassicOctane  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm running UNI filters with a 110 main jet. I ran that exact setup on my last CB550. I should be able to get the bike out today to see how this one runs with that setup.

    • @jaybird99100
      @jaybird99100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! If you don't mind let me know how you make out. I've got the same bike and the same exhaust on the way and will run pods as well. Be nice to have a good starting point for a reference if yours turns out to run nicely. thanks again!

    IV never used starting fluid. I have always used card cleaner to help things along. Any thoughts? Nice work man, love your videos.

    • @ClassicOctane
      @ClassicOctane  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used everything from starting fluid, carb cleaner and brake cleaner. Pretty much anything easy to spray and flammable should do the trick as long as you don't go overboard. If you use to much carb or brake cleaner is can start to dry out the rubber boots on the intake.

    Nice- i just took my bike for a ride last week but. ugh the cylinder is leaking oil. I dont think im going to take it apart again. Also I had to remove the center stand as it somehow got bent and was sitting up to far causing the chain to rub. its always something with these bikes

    • @ClassicOctane
      @ClassicOctane  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good video.
    I would imagine you've replaced fork seals before, but if you haven't, leave the forks in the triple tree and just remove the bottom clamp that holds the axle to the forks. Then you can remove the front wheel and while the triple tree is still holding the forks, use your impact driver on your air hose to break loose that screw on the bottom of the fork. Otherwise, you'll play hell clamping that fork in a vise and potentially marring the finish; whereas, the triple tree will do all the work for you if you break it loose while it's still in them.

    Super nice video ! Nice work on the start up, sounds insane !
    I have 2 questions:
    1: How did you mount the brake light into your frame?
    2: Do you ever work on your engine itself? Like the pistons or cilinders... ?
    Thanks !

    • @ClassicOctane
      @ClassicOctane  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The brake light is mounted using the adhesive strip that comes on the back of the light. I haven't really gotten to dig into the internals of one of these engines yet. I would love to do a full rebuild of one someday.

    • @LeonKishchenko
      @LeonKishchenko 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then you got really nice engines who are running like that without a rebuild!
      Super learnfull videos man love them.
      So the brake light is only "sticked" on the frame? :D

    • @ClassicOctane
      @ClassicOctane  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, using the adhesive and I also through two cable ties around the sides just to help it stick o the curve.

    A friend of mine and I attempted to start a 650 Nighthawk and we got her running for about 30 seconds and then she backfired extremely loud. We were in a barn so the sound resonated for a bit. Any suggestions as to what caused it?

    • @ClassicOctane

    I accidentally discovered a cool hack... if you buy gators that are a little too big at the top and don't fit around your bottom triple clamps you can buy plain rubber 35mm dust covers and put them on your fork between your bottom clamp and your gators.
    the top of the gators fit snug in the bottom of your dust covers and it looks great! and when the gators get weather-checked, begin to deteriorate and fall apart (they always do) Then you can cut off what's left of them and slide your dust covers over the fork so your fork seals aren't fully exposed, then you can continue ride worry free still looking sharp and replace the gators at your leisure.

      I'm running UNI pod filters on it.

    • @ianmikesell3114
      @ianmikesell3114 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are UNI pods an ok replacement without compromising the engine? I am customizing a 1976 yamaha xs360 and the stock filters are huge so it would look much better with pods. I am just worried about throwing off the carbs if I replace them.

    • @ClassicOctane
      @ClassicOctane  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you adjust the carbs accordingly. I bumped up my main jets to 110s to compensate for the added air flow.
