I love my ‘22 V90CC. It does all the things it’s supposed to do very well and isn’t trying to be a sports wagon. It’s comfortable, useful, serene, and has enough tech to be useful but not over the top. The Volvo Cars app lets you have remote start. The massaging seats are amazing and the vehicle has more than enough power for all normal uses. The over the air software updates have been welcome as well. We’ll see about reliability, but it’s not something I’m concerned with for the next few years. I’d skip on the air ride suspension and stick with the stock 19” wheels. I do wish the back hatch area had a somewhat higher roof, but there’s a price with the sleek long roof look. And…my dogs can hop in just fine without me having to pick them up.
I also go with the smallest wheels available, always. Large wheels are stupid in a wagon or SUV, really; harsher ride, less efficient mileage/range, less safe, more expensive. Volvo is actually going with sports wagons; they've put their Extended Range PHEV drivetrain into their 60- and 90-series wagons and SUVs, giving 455 hp and 523 lb-ft of torque, which is insanely fast and strong. I don't understand why they don't put this drivetrain into their Cross Country wagons instead of this lethargic "mild-hybrid" drivetrain.
Just returned a V90 after a 4 year lease. I’ll just comment on the overall design as my one a euro diesel. The 5 meter length is quite a lot, but the disappointing aspect is a lot of that length is an extra long front end / hood. It looks awesome but takes away from what should be passenger space. The rear hatch cuts into storage space. I found it easier to get a mountain bike in a golf than this big car ! The roof is quite low and head space for driver is poor. The overall build quality and tech and handling etc are fantastic. I just would ask for traditional Volvo flat hatch to come back ! Maximize space :) one last gripe the fuel tank is quite small for such a big car. I went to an xc60 ironically it’s a bit smaller inside but the space is more useable.
I mean Volvos reliability ratings are pretty average they’re no Land Rover and Hondas and Toyotas are so painstakingly average and frugal vehicles other than they’re great reliability they’re just appliances
Love these Volvo wagons, but with a much cheaper and well sorted option like the Subaru Outback, it's hard to justify stepping up to a luxury wagons, unless you just gotta have the status.
The ride quality in the Subaru is nowhere on level with a Volvo. You get a much better sound system and massage seats. There’s more than just status here. Just because you can’t afford it doesn’t mean it’s just a badge.
@@chrisak49 I disagree. Having just purchased a 2023 Outback and ridden in them many times previously, I can say from ample experience that the Outback has an excellent ride, far better than most people expect. My passengers always comment on the ride quality. Obviously, the optional air suspension and luxury features on Volvo take things up a notch, but it's at a painful cost. The Outback is more than comfortable enough for the vast majority of people and the upper trims are pretty damn luxurious. Not to mention that it will be far more reliable than the Volvo over the long term.
I’ve had several Volvo’s and they’re nice, but recently went with the Suburu Outback Touring XT. Why? More power, same luxury, very quiet, lots of safety features all standard, very good AWD systems, lots of cargo space, lots less $$$.
Subaru = more road noise, bumpy ride quality, hard plastics, no massage, no B&W sound system. But keep trying to justify being only able to afford a cheap car.
@@chrisak49 Apparently you haven’t looked at Suburus in awhile. The Outback’s have very low noise, low 50db on the road, plenty of power, HarmonKardon sound systems, Napa leather, etc, and all safety systems are all standard, and retain upto 60% original retail after 5 years. The V60 CC in the US is very under powered vs European models and are simply not fun to drive anymore, and Volvo have no intent on fixing that because they’re going hard core EV and the V60 CC Hybrid is insanely expensive.

Sleek and luxurious. $71k 😮 I owned 3 Volvo’s, a 1992 240 brick wagon a 2006 S60R and a 1994 850 Turbo wagon. All used vehicles. Both wagons had electrical issues “Gremlins” especially the 850 turbo wagon. I would hit a bump and the car would shut off completely. Happened 2x, the last one made made me sell it. Other than that they were pretty reliable. The 6 speed manual S60R was fun to drive but too heavy with it’s AWD
Some people say "older" Volvos were more reliable than newer ones. I think that's not true. Volvos have always had at least one car with electrical and other issues dating back to the 1970s. I've owned them too. I don't think the new ones are any more or less reliable than the older ones. Never had a Volvo shut off after hitting bumps, though.
@@benjaminsmith2287 yes it happened 2 times on my 1994 850 turbo wagon. First time doing about 65 mph on the NJ Turnpike, car completely stalled out. Last and 2nd time was in a light snow storm doing about 50 mph. After that happened I sold it
Yeah and the old Subaru my dad use to drive had nothing but head gasket problems which caused you to need a new engine. I'd take a old Volvo over a old subaru any day. Ive owned 2 Volvo and never had electrical issues. You must have gotten a lemon
Volvos in 1960s - 1970s were very reliable, engines and trannies legendary. But of course they were very basic cars The exception was the English sourced Lucas electrical bits - especially instruments. 120 & 140 series were rock solid. 1800s not so much due to Lucas parts.
Surprised to see that, at least in my area, the value of used v90s seems higher than for used Xc90s. Maybe just because they’re more scarce, but it’s have thought the opposite
just because others are providing bigger screens doesn't mean Volvo needs to. It's already a little out of control. Bigger is NOT always better with screens
I’m forever mystified at reviewers doing 0-60 comparisons and complaining that 5.5 seconds is so much better than 6.5 seconds. No one buys these cars for that reason and no one drives them that way. I found the V90 CC to be more than quick enough, with a much nicer interior than the A6 Allroad, and with tech that is way more user friendly (the Android Automotive system works really well) without the complicated and essentially useless functions in the Audi and Benz. The 4 cylinder mild hybrid is really smooth and the car rides well, is very well built, and is incredibly easy to live with. That’s why most people buy these cars, not brake torqued 0-60 runs.
Lovely vehicle, both exterior and interior. My only concern is the complexity of the super and turbo charged small displacement 2.0 litre engine and its durability long term. Great review as well, thank you.
Nice review, thanks. And nice car, I really like it. Only thing I miss in the review is showing the trunk in full size / folding down the rear seats. For station car users that´s interesting. 🙂 Thanks anyway.
The exterior is almost perfect. Interior is showing its age and need restyling badly. And it is necessary take into account that for the price of this particular Cross County you can buy two Outback Subarus which is more reasonable choice. The new refreshed Subaru interior even better than this white colour Volvo. The best choice is Audi A6 Allroad 2023.
Have you seen the EX90? Problem is it is EV only and Volvo will have to keep these older Volvo models on sale alongside the much more modern inside cars they're coming out with.
I prefer a station wagon over an suv. I like this Volvo it has enough room and cargo space for my family and me, and it's smaller and lighter than a suv. Beautiful car (or wagon in this case)
Same here, but the drivetrain in this sucks big-time, and the computer screens are horrendously bad (and audio, climate, and phone should be put into physical buttons/dials external to the touchscreen). Volvo needs to put its fabulous Extended Range PHEV drivetrain into this car, and then put a drive-mode button/dial on the steering wheel. And if they''d then fix their Google OS problems and make their infotainment screen horizontal, they'd get a lot more buyers. The designers in Sweden are good for seats, interior space, external looks, and structural safety, but they're really bad when it comes to tech.
@@cbatiau2528 I agree with you, some functions has to have physical bottons just like you said because I find very distractive to look at the screen to do some adjustments
What year do you have? The newest outback has grown some and is rather large actually. It’s taller and perhaps wider than the V90 but 4 just inches shorter.
They keep taking away options on the new Volvos. The drive modes was a great way to have varied dynamics of the car. It doesn’t make sense to have taken that away.
the drivetrain on this car is rather pathetic, frankly... it doesn't need "drive modes". What Volvo needs to do is put its new Extended Range PHEV drivetrain into this vehicle; then drive modes will matter and be a big deal.
The noise of the 4 cylinder is a deal breaker , they do not sound refined, I bought the last year of the Subaru I6 in Outback’s because we didn’t like the noise of the 4 cylinder in the new model , wish they could tune down the noise or refine it so it’s super smooth.
I agree the 4 cylinders doesn't sound great but the Outback is much louder inside than the Volvo. The Volvo is way quieter inside than the Outback and feels more refined.
I agree the Volvo 4 doesn't sound great but its refined. The Volvo is still way quieter inside than the Outback and its way more refined. The transmission in the Outback is a dealbreaker. A CVT is a no go for me. If you compare the standard 4 cylinder in the Outback that 80% of people buy it isn't even close. The Volvo 4 cylinder is way better
@@catjesus4319 Yes it will but so will a Corolla doesn't mean I want to own one. The Outback is Subaru second least reliable vehicle just in front of the Ascent which has been awful.
I have a 22 model, and the B6 does a good job of sound deadening so you hardly hear the 4cyl noise. I hear it more in my wife’s Volvo with the T6, and even that’s well insulated.
Still no oil dipstick? Bad design mistake. The sensor in the oil pan can malfunction and give false alarms. Also no way to check the color of the oil with such a sensor.
More powerful engine choices and maybe add power telescoping steering wheel, just some minor things like that and Volvo can increase sales for sure! Nice car 👍🏼
I don't think that adding a power steering wheel would sell one additional car. What would sell additional cars is putting audio, climate, and drive-mode controls back into physical buttons/dials (especially on the steering wheel) and making the computer screens much more useful -- and giving an Extended Range PHEV version of the Cross Country wagons.
Volvo often is too optimistic about their 0 to 60 stats. Tests in German car mags often report 1 second slower than what Volvo had promised. The new EX90 will get an electric steering column, despite Volvo's claims that such electric adjustment is unsafe. Go figure 🙂
Volvo knows the traditional buyer of this car is looking for relaxed driving, this car excels at being relaxed and comfortable. Yes the Audi and Mercedes are a lot quicker and sportier.
Being a luxury brand, I think they missed out on their engine choices. Other premium manufacturers are offering at least a 6 cylinder engine, either diesel or petrol. Infotainment is also laggy. Can imagine how it will work in 10 years time when we the poor folks might be able to afford it with a bank loan. Also the T8 Recharge on the V60 has the much more reliable 2.0l turbocharged engine. The B6 is plagued with issues.
Who wants to go on the hook for 71k in this day and age? Not I says Fly. I have admired Volvo for her great looks for decades but not ready for the high maintenance I keep reading about from those who committed.
Volvo won't go back to 6-cylinder cars; they're going in the opposite direction (no ICEs at all). You are spot-on with the B6 being a horrible drivetrain. What Volvo should have done is create an Extended Range PHEV for the Cross Country wagon (which they've put into most of their other models by now).
Since the v90 was a special order car anyways they shouldn't have discontinued. Or they should have put them on dealer lots like 2-3 per dealer first. They would've sold well. Now all the v90s are worth a lot and didn't depreciate much
need to improve their computer screens, period (the instrument screen is very lacking and limited), and put climate, audio, phone, and drive modes back into physical buttons/dials
I thought B5 was just a turbo 2.0L, and B6 was turbo 2.0L plus mild hybrid? I thought all of the new "B" line powertrains got rid of the twin charged feature. It is a bit vague on the volvo website, anyone know for sure?
I don’t it interesting how much this review focuses on 0-60 speed…it’s a station wagon! Not even one mention of towing capacity, which is probably a little more relevant than speed.
The new ones you just pull it and push it you don’t have to push it twice for the shifter. They also got rid of the wirlesless chargers because they are garbage
manually adjusting steering wheel is the least of these car's problems... Having drive modes, climate controls, phone controls, and audio controls in a touch screen is really unsafe for when the car is moving, and frustrating to use, as well. Many/most of these controls should be on physical dials/buttons on the steering wheel. And check out how bad the computer screens are! The instrument panels lack lots of basic info and are not very configurable. Having a manually adjusted steering wheel will lose zero sales, but all these other problems prevent most people from considering a Volvo.
what they need to do is make the screen horizontal, and then bring basic climate and audio and phone controls back into physical buttons and dials, especially on the steering wheel
I'm an SUV owner (XC60 T8 ER), but only because Volvo doesn't make their Cross Country wagons as T8 ER PHEVs; if they did, I'd have one of those instead.
exactly, which is why Volvo totally wasted their time putting a supercharger "B" drivetrain into this car... What they should have done instead is put their new Extended Range PHEV drivetrain into their Cross Country wagons, which eliminates the horrible supercharger.
Rear is to audiesq to be volvo practical. And the awd is too fwd biased in snow and ice, also much like the audi. But in my job i see alot of v90 with huge amount of miles on the odo.. much more than any audi ive seen(work at autoinspection). Mb eklass is for me in winter more predictable but overall the v90 cc is a way more reliable alternative to audi a6
Volvo needs to do three things with this car before I'd buy it (and I would): (1) bring back buttons/dials for climate control, audio, for scrolling through the infotainment screen, and drive-mode control on the steering wheel; (2) make the instrument panel much more robust with much more information (full-time odometer, engine/coolant temp, 12-volt-battery charge, map option in 2D, display of tire pressure in psi, display of power to each wheel in a diagram, display of music/audio being played); and (3) put the Extended Range PHEV drivetrain into this car. I'd also like to see it offered with an all-metal roof standard (make the glass roof a paid extra option), with 18-inch wheels standard, and with a horizontal infotainment screen integrated into the dashboard (instead of a vertical one). I've seen many cars with both vertical and horizontal infotainment screens, and the latter are vastly better in my view (they can more easily display lots of information at once -- like multiple panels showing drive-mode info, phone info, audio info, map, etc., all at once). I'd also like to see more space in the center console by moving the drive-mode shifter up on the dashboard like Porsche has done.
exactly... the "mild hybrid" supercharged drivetrain is a joke... I have the new Extended Range PHEV drivetrain in my XC60, and it's really great. If they had this in a Cross Country wagon, I'd have bought that instead of the XC60 because I prefer wagons to SUVs.
I must be crazy... WHY would you add many more vulnerable points of failure for ONE mpg more (and that's brand new). That's not a practical trade off in my head. I suppose you could get the credit when you register it as a hybrid, but dang, just seems stupid to me.
yes, these so-called "mild hybrids" are bad... What Volvo should have done was put their new Extended Range PHEV drivetrain into this Cross Country wagon...
@@arindlaub There's been a V60 Recharge for a while, but it's not a Cross Country wagon (i.e., it's the standard wagon with very low ground clearance). Many people want an alternative to SUVs, and lifted wagons fit that bill well for many of us.

I really like this , I have a Subaru Outback and it’s too small this might fill the void of space we need.
I love volvo wagons.
Hey, Sofyan, I’m not sure if you’re aware that your channel has been hacked, just wondering, how many people got “selected “
you can report the spam comments here...
Gorgeous wagon! So much more stylish than the Deutsche counterparts, shame It doesn't come with a V6
Did the exact same thing! Outback will be more reliable too.
Beautiful car
Girl, don’t forget to pay your American Express!
Nicee but I would rather get the xc60
Lovely facelift, I’m ok with 9” infotainment screen, but come on Volvo, it’s 2023 luxury car, and no wireless carplay?!!!!!🤯
I love this wagon and always wanted to get this (over SUV) or one from Mercedes. Maybe one day.
Can’t wait to see when they update it to the new EV platform
Dumba$$
Volvo often is too optimistic about their 0 to 60 stats. Tests in German car mags often report 1 second slower than what Volvo had promised. The new EX90 will get an electric steering column, despite Volvo's claims that such electric adjustment is unsafe. Go figure 🙂
Volvo knows the traditional buyer of this car is looking for relaxed driving, this car excels at being relaxed and comfortable. Yes the Audi and Mercedes are a lot quicker and sportier.
I thought the engine with both supercharger and turbo was discontinued? I guess not or is this new engine the replacement
Now it's an electric supercharger from the 48V system.
Beautiful interior..minus the stains lol
Absolutely pimp car
The Cross Country gets a hood liner but the S60 doesn’t?
Now all the v90s are worth a lot and didn't depreciate much
Volvos are just a understated vehicles. They just need to improve their infotainment system
need to improve their computer screens, period (the instrument screen is very lacking and limited), and put climate, audio, phone, and drive modes back into physical buttons/dials
D R E A M VEHICLE #VOLVO
I wish Volvos were somewhat reliable I would own one of the wagons. Those overly complex engines that offer are terrible
The 0-60 will be faster with the polestar optimization
i love these but that turbo/supercharger, the 4cyl and the hybrid powertrain and no rwd,, make it a dealbreaker
I thought B5 was just a turbo 2.0L, and B6 was turbo 2.0L plus mild hybrid? I thought all of the new "B" line powertrains got rid of the twin charged feature. It is a bit vague on the volvo website, anyone know for sure?
Every Volvo that has a B is a mild hybrid.
Did he just say the 9 inch screen is too small? It's a Volvo not a gm
You didn’t touch on the safety. Volvos are known for their high safety standards.
Volvos design is pure understated elegance 😍 but what’s with them and manual adjusting steering wheel 🤣
It's all about safety in an accident, manuel wheel for safety
@@johngaudet6316 How is it more safe?
manually adjusting steering wheel is the least of these car's problems...
“They discontinued it back in 2022”
What???? How far in the future is he?
Rear windshield wiper location; a bit of a zonk
They need to update the size of that screen
what they need to do is make the screen horizontal, and then bring basic climate and audio and phone controls back into physical buttons and dials, especially on the steering wheel
@@cbatiau2528 agreed
"Better than a SUV?"
SUV Owners: *NO!*
I'm an SUV owner (XC60 T8 ER), but only because Volvo doesn't make their Cross Country wagons as T8 ER PHEVs; if they did, I'd have one of those instead.
It needs a straight 6 back
Those MPG numbers are laughable, especially for a hybrid.
exactly, which is why Volvo totally wasted their time putting a supercharger "B" drivetrain into this car... What they should have done instead is put their new Extended Range PHEV drivetrain into their Cross Country wagons, which eliminates the horrible supercharger.
2023 Volvo V90 Cross Country B6 AWD Mild Hybrid System!
If you like music a lot make sure you get the Bowers&Wilkins audio, it's UNBELIEVABLE!
Description says I-6
I think that this should have smaller wheels
totally agree... No wagons or SUVs should have standard wheels larger than 18 or 19 inches...
2.0T is a deal breaker
Why would anyone want a screen larger than 9 in?
honestly for this vehicle they should have just had the recharged engine or t8 rather than b6
exactly... the "mild hybrid" supercharged drivetrain is a joke... I have the new Extended Range PHEV drivetrain in my XC60, and it's really great. If they had this in a Cross Country wagon, I'd have bought that instead of the XC60 because I prefer wagons to SUVs.
Too bad volvo dealers don’t have any of these cars in stock
“Leather stitching” makes absolutely no sense. It’s “stitched leather”. So annoying.
More switches and buttons. Stop putting things needed to drive the car into electronic screens and systems that fail and outdate
No paddles - no car, but why?
Good review, but you keep stating the same facts throughout the video.
Gosh I really hate FWD cars in this price range/ category. That 8 speed Aisin transmission is great in a Camry but doesn’t belong in luxury cars.
It's smooth and reliable like a luxury car.
@@cbatiau2528 Isn't that in the works now? I see a V60 Recharge on the Volvo website. Is that the same drivetrain?
@@arindlaub There's been a V60 Recharge for a while, but it's not a Cross Country wagon (i.e., it's the standard wagon with very low ground clearance). Many people want an alternative to SUVs, and lifted wagons fit that bill well for many of us.
