We need a Thomas' video on what his Top 10 cars he would buy. He seems to be sensible, so maybe he prefers Estates (wagon) along with cloth or V-Tex interior. But there is only one way to find out...
That B&W sound system is life. Once I sat in a V60 equipped with B&W, I had goosebumps all over. Nothing comes close IMO. (Yes, I heard also the B&O in a BMW 7, nothing like that)
I have a set of B&W headphones that are nice but really do not think spending that much on sound in a car is such a good return on investment. I listen to podcasts and such more than music in the car.
Currently driving the V60 D4 Inscription model with 200HP and it is amazing. I'm loving every trip in it, and it feels luxurious but still quick if you want it that way. I absolutely can't get enough of the sound and feeling when you close the door from the outside, but also the feeling of the handles when you open it from the inside. 10/10 would recommend.
Go to an Audi dealer and try out A6 and above with the door handles opening/closing. I’ve had an A6 for two years and now when I try the Volvos doors I’m not impressed at all.
I have a custom ordered 2021 V90 in USA, I love it very much, every feature checked, except I opted for the T5. Better gas mileage and fuel range, less future problems with drivetrain. I travel a lot, and do no go offroading much and I live in a tropical climate, south florida. T5 for me!
Classy vehicles and I'm glad they've stayed invested in estates/wagons. Very practical without becoming bulbous and chunky. A land yatch vs a land cruise ship (estate vs suv for the most part). More cuts in the first minute than a Jason Bourne fight scene. I do miss more stationary camera with more time lingering and holding on shots instead of the frequency of pans and shuffles, but I'm probably in the minority there. Excellent comparison again, very technical and impartial.
This is the best V90 to V60 comparison I've seen so far - it touched on what matters to me: the interior and exterior differences; how fun they are to drive; how they handle at speed; how they accelerate. Well done!
I own a V90 since January and I'm really saticfied with this wonderful car. Love every minute driving and enjoy the sound of the Harman /Kardon sound system
@@qkhuve I have! the battery still gets good range. it`s surprisingly frugal when running on petrol, at least on the highway. and all the power you really need when putting your right foot down😅the only thing i would point out is that the R design seat`s are not as comfortable as last gen (i used to have a 2012 V60 R design).
Intresting comparison with all the details! One thought though. Since you clearly stated that the extra length was mostly added to the trunk I think you should have mentioned that the angle of the window of the tailgates make the V90 not that big as it appears if you measure at the floor level. If you want to load big stuff like moving boxes or a dog cage it's easier to fit the V60 than the V90 due to the angle of the rear window. So the V60 is smaller, but it's easier to utilize all the space than in the V90. But I made the tailgate for the V60 so i might be a little biased though ;)
Ja I know Thomas, this is 3 years old but for many this is more important than new cars so here we are. I went from an older model S60 (2009) to a (2013) S80 and the difference is huge. I keep looking at the V90's in the cross country trim (nice ride height and easy to get in and out of) and it does not need to be more than the T5 version (250hp) from the earlier models so they have not been limited yet on top speed. I like that you cross checked the seats and the cloth/leather in which they came and I will be using that as a reference. Thanks again, this video is really handy:)
I like this style head to head instead of a compilation video of two old reviews. It must be crazy fun moving from car to car to compare the features and functions in real time.
The V60 is definitely the winner. And that R-design package is a perfect combination. I drive the XC60 version of the same car and after one year of ownership, I can say I am 100% happy with it!
I have a 2018 V90 T6 R Design in the US. Love it! It is a rare car here, as Americans LOVE their SUVs. I wish we could get the V90 T8/Recharge here, but it's unlikely, since I think only 500 V90s sold here last year in total!
It’s like driving in a luxury Swedish apartment. Beautiful. Plus loving your channel here in the UK. You are a top presenter, good humour, impartiality on car makes and better English speaking than I ever could…and I’m English 😅
I'm owner of 2005 S60 2.5T with 350000 km, and searching for younger replacement. This video did not solved my most huge dilemma, but helped me a lot. On the same way, I feel less stupid after visiting car shops with meter to measure trunk and rest important dimensions. 😄 Make the video comparision XC60 vs V60, my opinion is first is more practical and spacious, second is more elegant and sporty.
Excellent review! You highlight the right details which most reviewers do not even mention and such a comparison makes choosing a model so much clearer and easier.
I had a brand new V90 Cross Country top of the range for 4 weeks (Hire car)! I absolutely loved the thing, the best all rounder of a car I have ever driver, It was special!
For the effort you put into every video, the production value and research you do before presenting us every car with such detail, you deserve way more subscribers. Add to that the fact that English is not your first language and the work you do becomes even more impressive. To be honest I'm the sort of person who prefers a bit more drama and ludicrous commentary like Top Gear, but I have come to understand that when one actually wants to buy a car, you need a more sober approach and people presenting and explaining in detail, like you are doing here on YT. As for your question, I would prefer the V90 out of the two, even with the lower trim level because it looks better, more elegant and majestic on the outside, and the interior is just awesome. That being said, for around 90,000 euro (what the hell!) I would get a 5 series BMW with all the bells and whistles. I have a 2022 V90 and my son has a 2022 V60 PE. The V90 is significantly quieter inside. It may just be the lounge package but the V90 side windows are double glazed. When you close the door the world goes away. The only time I even hear engine noises when I floor it. The V60 is much louder inside unless you have it on pure. It does however have an awesome rumble.
Those are actually not 20" wheels on the V60, as you can read on the tire. 20" is an option and has even thinner tyres. Seen in the video 30:20. 235/40 R19.
Just bought a v90cc b6 and wow! Love it had a xc60 2017 d5 and the v90 cross country is miles better to drive big estate car all the way.Love the video and the comparisons to the v60
In 2019 V60 was option for me but still went with CR-V. V60 is very nice, almost perfect car, the only issue I had was small trunk size, not much better than my previous civic. V90 could compensate for that but costs significantly more. Now I think these phev versions are too expensive. V60s in B3/B4, diesel or gasoline, are currently real bargains for the price.
I don't know how I have missed your awesome reviews! Loving the door closing sound review and the progressive stance on leather VrS cloth/vegan seats! I come from a Volvo family. My dad and my sister works at Volvo City Torslanda but you guys STILL manage to teach me things about the infotainment systems on Volvo cars! Can you ask your family to get someone in Volvo to talk to Scottish Leather about their sustainable leather. Not all of us Volvo owners want plastic ‘leather’, there is re-engineered leather also. I feel Volvo is pandering to a generation who think they know all about sustainability, but don’t actually know wool and leather are animal by products. No reason why both options can’t sit alongside the new offerings.
Thanks Thomas, just what I was looking for, a comparison between these two Volvos. I am considering buying a used one of them to replace my old Jag estate. Excellent timing and an excellent review in “full screen, full HD and full length, let’s go”. Happy Easter ! PS: when you measure the height of the trunk, it would be nice to know the distance from floor to roof so we know if our dogs will be able to stand up comfortably ? 👍🏻🦮
I was faced with the same choice. It was a hard choice! I live in Prague and in the end I chose the V60 due to practicality. V90 - bigger trunk, more room for the driver feels like you're driving a boat, but you don't want to park in an old European city with it. V60 for the same price more equipment, size same as VW Passat - universal parking size. What I miss about the V60 is the automatic roller shutter in the trunk. If you want to know more let me know in the post
Hi Filip, After owning the V60 for some time, can you tell me how the reliability has been? I currently have a 2004 Passat Wagon with 4motion and would like to have a newer wagon with a similar ride quality and room behind the rear seats
The V60 looks to be younger! The dashboard design is nice but the infot. screen proportion together with the central A/C diffusers look kind of bulky, I don't know! However, the steering wheel is in a match with the dashboard design lines! Cheers, have a nice weekend, everyone here! 🍻🎵✨
Thank you Thomas for a very informative and detailed review! I myself am choosing between a V60 or V90 recharge (2021-2023 year models). This review made it clear to me that V90 is the one to get. Vielen dank für ein gutes review. Grüsse aus schweden 👌
it' not true, check again.. In Gent there is no V60 maufacturing, XC40, XC60, V40, S60 but not V60... Actually I don't think that in Belgium there's worse quality concerning manufacturing. Why should be beside such a strict quality controls and assurances??? Urban legend maybe.
Great review, such a shame that many modern cars come with far too many gadgets and driving aids. gear shift, windscreen wipers, power steering, fuel guage & economy meter, speedometer, a big boot and a radio and that will do thanks. Hankering for the V60 but the V50 looks roomier both in the front and back, also the older 3B6 Passat estate (which I still own) is same room for the front and back seats but has a bigger more practical boot than either of these two cars.
Thank you for this video! I really enjoyed your style of making reviews. On the strearing of the V90: Have you tried the different settings for the stearing? I know Germany is special with the higher speeds but the different settings could make a difference in higher speeds? I think so ;)
yeah!super looking, those yellow seatbelts...V60 polestar is "my choice"...nice comparison...nice and fancy those two panoramicroofs----great options...+those "brembo"s"...nice ride us always from Thomas...
Unfortunately, the V90 is only available with the T5 powertrain with front wheel drive in the US. The V90 Cross Country is available with a front wheel drive T5, or an all wheel drive T6. No plug in hybrid is offered here. The only hybrid available in the V60 range is the Polestar package, although hybrid SUVs are offered. I wish I had the options that are available in Europe. A BMW 530e Touring would have my serious consideration if it was available here. I may end up with a pure electric in the next year or two. Tschüß!
That's ultimately the flaw in the US market - if you want a wagon (that's not a raised wagon - aka "Outback" or mini SUV), your choices are extremely limited. These 2 Volvos, a Mercedes, and, well, a Porsche. I wound up with the V60 recharge because "I'm saving the planet!". At least, that's what I tell myself. It is more efficient than my last car, at least.
Both trunks are very shallow. Cabin suitcase has 55 cm and in Octavia and Superb it may stand on bottom surface but in Volvlo must be carry long side down (45) or just lying. This makes trunks of Skoda so capacious. Cubic meters are nit everything.
i prefer the v90. Just by the design of the door panels it just remind you that it's a luxury car, the v60 looks less luxurious (which is normal). The V60 just doesn't have that special feel i have in the v90. I already sat in a v90 and was so impressed by the looks and the quality
Love the video. But you are aware that both wool and leather are by products of animals….they are better to be used than go to landfill. Volvo have missed a trick here, they work with the Scottish Leather Group and should have used the sustainable initiative that Scottish Leather have. I’m a long time owner of Volvo and a buyer of aerospace seating materials who has worked with Scottish leather. Really hope someone from Volvo reads these comments.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse? The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
I am loving your reviews Thomas, I am in the UK and have just ordered a V90 based on your review here and previous V90 reviews. I do have a question. Did your V90 here come with the laminated glass option? Have you drove V90's with and without this option and does it make a difference for reducing overall sound? Keep up the fantastic work! :) I've thumbed up and as always... SUBSCRIBED!!!!!
I am about to move to the Netherlands and will most likely purchase the v90. Great review, I am sold. But the seat finish in the car tested here look terrible…. Not suitable for a a car at this price point. I will choose a different configuration.
In a normal car (non-hybrid), I'd definitely agree that STOP/START puts extra strain on the starter motor. But in a hybrid, I wouldn't think it would make much of a difference since it uses the electric motor to start the petrol engine. Thoughts?
Good video, though if I was choosing then the first thing I would take into account is how much boot space do I need, after all they are different sizes which is the main deciding factor here if choosing between them, I think you should of compared the normal V60 against the Polestar V60 to get a closer comparison as they are both the same size ! The same goes for the normal V90 against the Polestar V90 that way you are comparing like for like size wise ! Having said that it was still interesting to see though the result was pretty predictable when it came to Comfort v Handling/Performance comparisons ! V60 lighter and smaller = the result.
Please share a video where you demonstrate the kind of steering feedback you would expect to have. Without a comparable vehicle to use for comparison I guess we have to take your word for it.
I love how the speedo 3 digit counter is not laggy. Same in the Ford Mustang, but not even in the Porsches. What is the RPM at top speed in comfort mode?

Hi Filip, reliability on the super and turbocharged engine is my question too
Andreas you are the best car journalist!
I like this topic of family comparisons, just like when you did the C Coupe vs the E Coupe. Well done T and team.
highly appreciated!
Question is, why do you need 400 horsepower if your max is limited to 180km. 200hp is sufficient.
Very good Thomas, please more of these comparisons 👍
We will!
Interesting comparison and great review, as always with no stone left unturned! Many thanks G.
cheers m8 !
2 of my favorite cars in existence!
3:43 das gefühl von kreide, die über eine Tafel quietscht, als Thomas die elektrische Heckklappe so nach oben drückt :D
Just the film I have been wanting. Awesome stuff. Thank you
enjoy!
@@autogefuehl still can’t decide which one though. Think it will be the v90 simply for the awd without it being a cross country
I have a v90 t6 polestar love the space en de relax driving, still jou can hit de kickdown. Ganz toll 👌 ps it's pure combustion engine. 320 horsepower
Ich liebe meinen V60. Danke schön aus Amerika!
The V60 looks to be younger! The dashboard design is nice but the infot. screen proportion together with the central A/C diffusers look kind of bulky, I don't know! However, the steering wheel is in a match with the dashboard design lines! Cheers, have a nice weekend, everyone here! 🍻🎵✨
And Thomas! Review after review you are giving this place a very unique style in reviewing a car! Congrats! ✨👍
Even in the UK I would go for the V90 any day. I think it looks more elegant.
Thank you Thomas for a very informative and detailed review!
I myself am choosing between a V60 or V90 recharge (2021-2023 year models).
This review made it clear to me that V90 is the one to get.
Vielen dank für ein gutes review.
Grüsse aus schweden 👌
Great comparison, great video . You spoil us. Thank you
🤩
V90 is made in Sweden, v60 in Belgium. Big difference in building quality if you have in mind previous Volvo models. Nice video btw
Are you saying the v90 has a better quality?
it' not true, check again..
In Gent there is no V60 maufacturing, XC40, XC60, V40, S60 but not V60...
Actually I don't think that in Belgium there's worse quality concerning manufacturing.
Why should be beside such a strict quality controls and assurances???
Urban legend maybe.
They are awesome both but I prefer the V90
Thank you for this thorough review! I would love more info on their towing capabilities!
👌🙏
I would love to get the V90 here in Australia, we only get the V60 and V90CC, not the normal V90...
Thanks keep following!
Vould get the V90 because its just better for me :D
Thomas hello from Croatia :D
Hope to see you this year :D
Thank you for this video! I really enjoyed your style of making reviews. On the strearing of the V90: Have you tried the different settings for the stearing? I know Germany is special with the higher speeds but the different settings could make a difference in higher speeds? I think so ;)
Thanks! Well the general connection of steering an vehicle and road is not most natural with Volvo
I love that u do long reviews
🙌🙌🙌
@@autogefuehl Regards from Sweden!
Tusind tack!
@@autogefuehl 😄😄👍
yeah!super looking, those yellow seatbelts...V60 polestar is "my choice"...nice comparison...nice and fancy those two panoramicroofs----great options...+those "brembo"s"...nice ride us always from Thomas...
I prefer V 90 no questions no doubt:)
Hi. Greatings from Denmark. Could you do a comparison of the bmw 3 touring and bmw 5 touring? Would be super informative. Thanks in advance.
Br Kim
Very nice. Really like the V60.
Excellent, informative review as usual. 👏👏👏
appreciated!
Perfect, both interior/exterior. Really perfect.
The V90 looked better before the facelift, 2020.. I have a v90 but would love a V60 instead, they look so good in R-design and especially Polestar.
cant wait to see the review, thank you thomas.
Tire choice also very important for the steering feel!
Driving my V60 T5 inscription for 3 years now. Nice car to drive. Next car maybe a T8 XC or V90.. lets see what Volvo offers in 2023
Both trunks are very shallow.
Great review! Thank you!
🙏🙏
Love the video. But you are aware that both wool and leather are by products of animals….they are better to be used than go to landfill. Volvo have missed a trick here, they work with the Scottish Leather Group and should have used the sustainable initiative that Scottish Leather have. I’m a long time owner of Volvo and a buyer of aerospace seating materials who has worked with Scottish leather. Really hope someone from Volvo reads these comments.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
V90..it's my favorite
Both cool looking vehicles, good on Volvo. Excellent review idea - thanks
It's all about the person, I love the sportseats and really dislikes the comfortseats. (Now have the XC60 R-Design)
Thomas it would be nice to have similar comparison between new Outback and V60 CC
Very good review comparison
Thanks 😊
I pick the V60. thanks
What i noticed with the steering is you can alter sensitivty in settings to get the road connection
V60 power! Driving one, switching next year to...another V60;)
What happened to "Full HD, Full Screen, Full Length" intro?
I really really wish these cars had no leather interior options like Polestar.
Yeah agree. However sadly, Polestar also still offers animal leather option. However, the cruelty-free seat is standard in the Polestar
nice to know they steer the same as my v70 from year 2000
You should do a Volvo v90 giveaway contest 😂😂 jk, I love all your vids! Trying to learn German as well
=)
I love both
In a normal car (non-hybrid), I'd definitely agree that STOP/START puts extra strain on the starter motor.
The Polestar has manual suspension front and rear but you’ll have to crawl under if you want to adjust the back end.
Yeah thats creepy about the polestar. Just the back end though?
I've rented both models many times and for me the V60 is so excellent that I dont see the point in keeping V90 in production.
Haha an dem tag als das gedreht wurde war ich mit dem Roller da XD
I love how the speedo 3 digit counter is not laggy. Same in the Ford Mustang, but not even in the Porsches.
What is the RPM at top speed in comfort mode?
