Most SUV are just raised cars. Volvo XC60 is a real SUV with an all wheel drive system that could be take off road. Now it would not be much use for hardcore rock crawling but it can be taken off road successfully.

Great review. This is probably my next whip. I chuckled at your comment in regards to the center console. I totally get your sentiment when you say like it feels cheap because the plastic. LUXURY. But you gotta remember stationwagons, along with the other groups of "Mom-mobile" or Grocery Getters", are supposed to be practical. Do you really want leather or wood getting damaged when mom spills her coffee on the way to work, or a kid drops a big o'cup of Kool-Aide all over your center console. Maybe some nice soft touch? I dunno..just me. Plus, I appreciate low effort cleanup in high traffic areas such as a center console. Love your channel. I soak in the hot tub and watch ya every episode.

The Outback I looked at was a Limited XT that started MSRP of $39k and the dealer went to $36k. $409/mo with $2995 down. Found a Volvo dealer for V60 CC with the vehicle asking $46k(included dealer money). $244/mo with $1700 down. This included Costco/First Responder/loyalty incentives which lowered cost by over $5k. I did pay $500 to have it delivered. So on leases Volvo puts more incentives(cash) out there especially in certain regions.

I loaded up a Tour X with everything and got it to about 42,000 BUT with current rebates and discounts it can be bought for about $35k. I don't know what kind of discounts Volvo will offer you but for $10k I would be ok with a little less refinement from the BUick. Lower maintenance costs too.

  • @benjaminsmith2287

I don't see this as any anti-SUV. I was around before SUVs became popular and Volvo wagons were standard popular vehicles and if not bestsellers, close to it. In fact the previous gen xc70, and yes xc was used for 4-wheel drive and not SUV at first, was a very popular car and you can see a good amount of them on roads in the USA. It's a wagon, an estate in England, a combi in Germany, and if you go to Europe, you'll see plenty of these vehicles. The Volvo interior is now not as fresh at it used to be and a new Volvo interior is due in the 2022 xc90. But the interior has aged well and it is still elegant, although I'd take it in a darker color. I wish Volvo put the more powerful engine in it but since people in the USA aren't buying all that much of them anymore, then you'll take what you can get. The regular v70 is fine, I don't need one that's higher up.

I had a 2018 XC60 T5 with the Polestar package. While it did change the throttle response a little it didn't make that much difference. I'd say that Comfort became Dynamic and then Dynamic became more powerful. Honestly, I don't know if it's worth it in the T5 trim. That car was purchased back by Volvo as a lemon and I got into a T6 XC60 and I agree, that engine in the V60CC would be optimal!

I’m sorry but I just don’t think that anyone who could Easily afford this car is going to choose an outback over the V60 country.... it’s beautiful sophisticated and elegant. And that’s what people are paying for. They don’t care in bel air, Brent wood or Beverly Hills that the Subaru has 10 more horses. They could careless. They just know the Volvo looks better parked in front of their drive ways and it’s a Volvo and to them that’s all that matters.

The Harman system is more than adequate for the majority of people. I've tested the Harman and Bowers in the XC90 and XC60 and the difference is not worth it for the majority of people. The Harman sounds so good, you forget that it's not the Bowers. People also get caught up in the amp wattage which when you actually listen to them, it means nothing. As long as it sounds good, that's all that matters.

Volvo makes BEAUTIFUL cars but size wise I don’t think they’re designed with the American consumer in mind. Also I agree that at that price point they should’ve included that additional equipment. That seems to be the theme with all of the “luxury” automakers. After charging you premium base prices for not the most reliable vehicles on the road they decide to nickel and dime you to death on the things that should already be included.

Thanks for the review. Now that you've gotten a feel for the cross country and noted that some may consider it underpowered, it'd be really interesting to get your take on the V60 T8 eAWD Plug-in Hybrid wagon. It'll be faster for sure, but you lose unique cross country features like the raised height. And you can't get cooled seats--for any money; the plug-in comes with special seats of its own that lack that feature. And this may seem like a small thing, but the side tinted windows you get with the cross country aren't available on the plug-in. Go figure. The plug-in is certainly pricey, but it comes with most every option, and a tax credit. My question is, would you be foolish to ever take it off paved roads? Thanks!

People really need to mind their business and let people buy what they need
If someone wants a crossover, so be it.
If someone wants a hybrid, so be it.
If someone wants a Mustang, so be it.
Instead we should really concentrate our efforts on what REALLY MATTERS: ridding the planet of ricers, Jeep ricers and lifted pickups
