WOW! Oh, Father Mike, thank you for praying for all of us so powerfully at the end! Thank you! And I also pray these same words for you exponentially. Thank you, and God Bless you, God Bless you, God Bless you! May we all receive these gifts, and in such a way that we will also be sanctified by using all of these gifts ONLY in the Holy Will of God, and may we all grow and help one another grow in God's Holy Divine Will so that the Kingdom of God will be lived on earth as it is in Heaven, this is the prayer of Jesus and the prayer that Jesus taught us, so it is also a promise of God.

Father Mike, I love your explanations and I know that you always make sure to explain things that today’s generation would typically raise an eyebrow to. However, when I heard 1 Corinthians 14:33-36 I remember thinking “oh boy, if someone who doesn’t know church history hears this or someone who is attempting to come to the faith but struggles hears this they may…” but then I remembered that you always explain touchy topics like this right off the bat. I was surprised that you didn’t. I’m not sure if you guys look at suggestions and make edits, but I think explaining this further would be something good for those who struggle with church teachings. I try telling everyone to listen to your podcasts because you explain all those things (the things that people may either leave the church for or those who don’t join because they can’t get on board with some of these scripture passages because their 21st century interpretation/perception hinders them). I know it may seem like there isn’t any real explanation needed because it’s so matter of fact “women should keep silence in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak…” but it may be something to think about on behalf of those who need to hear the reasons why it was like that.
My interpretation of it was, correct me if I’m wrong, is that this part is meant to reference the concept of priesthood. “The women should keep silence in the churches.” I believe they are referring to preaching in church, which makes sense. And as for it being “shameful” I connected it to what we read a few pages before that regarding the head covering. Thus, it’s not shameful for her to speak simply because she is a girl, but it’s shameful because if she represents mankind and men represent the Father, then that would mean that her speaking would represent man (humankind) claiming to be superior to God. Does that make sense? That’s at least my interpretation of it. I’m no theologian, but I am an English teacher, which means I only have my close reading
Thank you for taking time to read this 🙏

Father Mike, your explanation on the spiritual gifts answered all my questions. I belong to Charismatic Prayer Group in our Parish and these spiritual gifts were discussed so many times but I did not understand them well until I listened to your podcast. The spiritual gifts St Paul mentioned are not for our own except the gift of tongues unless one has the gift of interpretation of tongues. The gifts are given to us by God for the edification of His Church and His kingdom and for God's glory and for the benefit of God's people. Thank you, Father, for making it clear for me. I will share it to my group. Also thank you for praying over me the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I accept them for the edification of the Church and for the glory of God and for the benefit of His people. God bless and protect you always.

It's my favorite day! I was brought back to the church through the charismatic renewal in 1974. My life irreversiblely changed. The experience called the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues was a central part of me going from an agnostic to a believer. The idea that we can release the Holy Spirit in us to experience supernatural gifts is for everyone. The blessed mother spoke in tongues on the day of Pentacost. All the Apostles did. St Paul did as well, claiming he spoke more than those in Corinthia. These gifts open up your mind to see the spiritual world around you. As Fr Mike said, it is a gift, not a sign of some greater holiness. But it does allow you to see more clearly. If you have a ditch to dig you can do it with a shovel or a backhoe. The spiritual gifts are the backhoe.

Women should not speak in church? I’m just about to go to mass and read to the congregation for the Solemnity of Christ the King.
I think that the church has rightfully decided throughout the centuries that women have many ways of being included in the service of the people, and their presence is to be appreciated.
I would have been interested in hearing Fr Mike’s thoughts on this.

BEAUTIFUL! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Fr. Mike... I feel so blessed by "The Bible in a Year" & am incredibly grateful for it AND you! I am a cradle-Catholic who has struggled for many years with a faltering Faith, & this is the first time in my life I am getting through The Bible. Your teaching commentary at the end of each set of readings has made all the difference, as my brain so often cannot follow the foreign concepts & poetic nature of Biblical wording.
I also appreciate all the modes of accessibility of BIAY. I listen on my phone, my tablet, & my laptop depending on my need at the time, & though I am not hearing impaired, having BIAY available with text apparently enhances the capacity to absorb the content in the presence of certain learning disabilities! I didn't even realize I needed the text until I experienced an increased ability to attend to the content today! YAY! You are truly doing God's work & I have no doubt He is well-pleased!
Thank you again, so very much... I am thrilled & hugely grateful to have such stellar resources to support my efforts to return to Faith, & grow ever stronger in my relationship with God. This work done by you & the BIAY team absolutely makes a difference... it changes lives & it helps save Souls. May God bless you all. 🙏✝️🔥😇

December 3: "Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
    1 Corinthians 13: 8-13
Love is the greatest of all three bedrock virtues of the Christian faith.
It will abide, in a sense, even after our faith has become sight and our hope in eternity has been fully realized.
May I love the way that I am loved. And may my love be felt long after I am gone.
    Amen.

    Today’s readings are Acts 16, 1 Corinthians 13-14, and Proverbs 28:13-15.
IN nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Do you have just a moment in time to pray for Souls in Purgatory with me?
According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great, was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory:
    Eternal Father,
I offer You the most precious blood
    of thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said
    throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
    for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
for those in my own home,
    and in my family. Amen.
In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)

Very interesting observations. Love surely is the greatest of gifts. I'm still not sure speaking in tongues mean, but I guess it just means that whenever you speak, anyone who has a different language can understand you. I notice you didn't comment about not having women speak in the church. I assume it was the habit in those days that women were not equal to men in many ways. Makes sense to me and I believe in believe women should not be priests. Maybe deacons, but that's for the church to decide.

Many will say to me on that day ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!

    Proverbs 28
13 - You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you.
14 - Always obey the Lord and you will be happy. If you are stubborn, you will be ruined.
15 - Poor people are helpless against a wicked ruler; he is as dangerous as a growling lion or a prowling bear.

I have so many questions on this. What really is speaking in tongues. Why don’t we do in at mass? It sounds more like non Catholic Church activity. How do you know if someone is giving a prophecy that is from God? Are there any new prophets today? Are there any healers? I just have so many questions.

Father, you again forgot commenting on the topic around status of women mentioned in the letter of Saint Paul... :) which is a quite significant and conspicuous.
