I love the fact that Paul and Barnabas have a disagreement about Mark but get back together later on - it just brings the issue of forgiveness to the forefront - and how we all fall into those situations even today - and I as an older woman now who didn’t always follow her Catholic faith and fell into the “I am woman hear me roar” lie, now veil at Mass, yes I cover my head and wear a skirt and modest clothing to honor my Lord and I’ve gotten a whole lot better at letting my husband d of 41 years, not all great years, be the head of our family - humility is a gift and grace from God. Thank you Jesus amd our blessed Mother for teaching me how to live like a child of God 😊🙏❤️

I remember learning in college that in Genesis 2:18 what reads as "helpmate" in English is taken from the word ezer in Hebrew. When ppl read "helpmate" they think subservient, but what's interesting is the only other times ezer is used in the Bible is to describe God's strength when he is rescuing/saving His people, so we know that that's not at all denoting inferiority.

Do you have just a moment in time to pray for Souls in Purgatory with me?
According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great, was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory:
    Eternal Father,
I offer You the most precious blood
    of thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said
    throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
    for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
for those in my own home,
    and in my family. Amen.
In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20)

I grew up in the 60's. My parents were always a united front. They worked together and were a great example of being complimentary. I never saw one as greater than the other. I have tried to keep that example in my marriage. One learns from what one sees.

SO IMPORTANT for all the Protestants who claim scripture alone to contemplate and deeply Father Mike's correct commentary on ACTS Chapter 15 - WHERE THERE WAS NO LAW WRITTEN REGARDING CIRCUMCISION ON THE BAPTISM IN THE NEW COVENANT. The Catholic church Jesus founded and is still going strrrroooong thanks to Holy Spirit, great faithful spiritual directors and faithful on-fire for Jesus- laity, is the discerning body for the world and was meant as such for all matters to follow from 60 AD: revolutions, wars, technologies, sexual freedom.... It was the Catholic church who provided laws of ethical fairness from these early days, not Martin Luther btw...I digress...

The passage about the Lord's supper is interesting, we are told "for anyone who eats and drinks without recognising the body of the Lord, eats and drinks judgement on themselves"
When Jesus (the perfect lamb) was beaten and scourged before the crucifixion, it was to fulfil the scripture in Isaiah 53 "by his stripes we are healed" The perfect lambs that were presented for slaughter were taken into the home for a week beforehand, and not whipped and beaten.
I Corinthians goes on to say " This is why many of you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. To not discern the body bit but lump the body and blood together, would seem to be why people are not being healed. Maybe this is what is meant by an unworthy manner.
Not expecting any agreement here, but as sinners none of us are worthy to be around this table are we?

What about people who are homebound? Would you deny them in learning more about Christ? True that a lot of televangelist are often not speaking the truth, but trying to make themselves rich. You have to find someone who really believes the Word of God and teaches it. Pray to God to help you find the right Pastor who is teaching God's Will.

    Proverbs 28
10 - If you trick an honest person into
doing evil, you will fall into your own trap.
The innocent will be well rewarded.
11 - Rich people will always think they are wise, but a poor person who has insight into character knows better.

Father Mike, I remember when I was younger, No women could go into Church without a hat or a veil on there head. Women were not suppose to wear pants to Church either, why has everything changed so much in The Church. I remember when we had to go to confession every week not once every 2 months. To me Church is just not the same anymore. I still go and will always go because I go for God and Jesus and The Holy Mother. I have been so dissapointed in Church's new way of doing things.

Blessed are those who believe and not seen, that is faith. Why do people insist on seeing it written in the Bible to believe. Didn’t the Bible also pointed out that not all that Jesus did is recorded. Some of the teachings I believe were passed on by the apostles verbally than written. In addition, the Work of the Holy Spirit continues, revealing the hidden & will of the Father in time

How did we lose this? As a child our head was always covered at Mass?

Thank you so much for explaining the first book of Corinthians to us.
It is so beautiful and true although it can be hard to digest at times.
I don’t currently wear a veil to mass. Is that some thing that more of us should start practicing? I understand the historical context but I’d really like to know. I’m a candidate/catechumen and this would be helpful.

Some women still wear a veil to Mass, which I think is beautiful. It somehow shows or conveys a respect or a devotion, so it is good.

I love wearing a veil to Mass! It really helps me focus on the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

I was wondering how Fr. Mike was going to appease the feminist. Good job Fr. Mike.

What does Fr. MIke mean by "....the abuse at the Lord's supper, so horrible.." (26:36). Did I miss something?

I understood it as people are not always worthy of receiving Jesus, either by their thoughts or deeds. If you do this knowingly it is a sin and abuse at the Lord's table.

@@cbtherepetitiveparthelpsme957 Oh that makes sense. I thought he was talking about women at that point, so I was confused about what abuse of a woman he might have meant.
