I am running a 1991 toyota 2.5 liter DOHC 4 valve V6 to a Bus transaxle. Engine was rated at 150 hp stock but its putting down 203 rwhp now in my sand rail. Its putting 193 rwtq now as well. More power than it would ever need. It will pull a wheelie in the sand with sand paddles and it rips on the street .
mine has a supercharged thundercat 900cc triple 2stroke (250 hp)with a suzuki samurai 5 speed transmission , 4link to suzuki axle . in the middle of building a aluminum rock lizard type chassis to put all of the rail car stuff in with a small transfer case , 2 front axles cheap 4 wheel steering , 16 inch foa coil overs , i just got my BLACK MAMBA tires with logging type chains and bart racing rims

Sand rails are so fun. I have a 81 Celica 22r in my rail and it's a blast

The engine is not too powerful. Also, the transmission gear ratios are not close.

Get you an esslinger vw Trans adapter plate put a vw bus Trans in it there lower geared make plenty of more power to wheels then😊
How did you get past the o2 sensors?
You don't need o2 sensors to run an engine. It'll just run super rich
