    Good job . Just built it out of my wheel house guess I need to step it up LOL. Looks like you will have fun and that's what Rails and bugs are all about. Hope to see your next travel.

    Something most people don't consider is busting the cage on the CV due to trailing arm bottoming out. I've seen more than once when someone swaps to a bus tranny and only swaps out the car CV to the bus CV on the transmission side. The car axle is something like 16 and a half long creating the issue where the CV joint busts the cage repeatedly. The cure is a 15 and a half long axle, or mill a half inch out of the spline of the bus CV, or lengthen the spines on the car axle but they can and will snap doing that, or swap the stock irs trailing arms for 3x3 trailing arms and use the stock bus axle with a car CV on the wheel side unless it's been drilled or updated to bus stub axles. As for swapping to a bus tranny, they're 2 inches wider which is why you have to modify something if not using 3x3 trailing arms with bus axles. What you did looks to be fine. It creates a circular motion with the axle when the trailing arms are moving vs the axle going in and out due to being a shorter travel point

    I'm curious why you didn't add one or even both of the shocks the mounts are made for? Loved the vacation vids

      Thanks for joining. Its a pretty standard VW aircooled engine. Soon to be replaced by a liquid cooled 4 cylinder

    You never really mentioned if it rode much smoother. Im considering doing the same to my buggy but unsure if I should.

      It rides amazing. It was a spine killer before. Now it is super plush, I highly recommend increasing the travel like this.

      @@spankranchgarage could you give me a brief parts list of the parts you used? Part numbers for the shocks would be awesome. I know you extended your own control arms but ill probably just buy some so i dont screw it up.

    Great work. Couldn’t you use a set of stock rzr shocks for the back ?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t consider them but it’s a possibility. Eventually these fox air shocks will move to the front end and I will replace with coilovers to handle more weight

    dont use a cam with alot of duration just a lot of lift , or you will kill all your lower end ,you need lot of low end for off road. how do i know this???

  • @negativefishermen9286
    @negativefishermen9286 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are the shocks all that keep it lifted in the rear now? You deleted the torsion bars correct?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats correct all the weight is on these shocks now

    • @spankranchgarage

      Hey Peter. Check my videos I made one solving exactly that

  • @jaysencorbett1855

    How did you switch the bolt pattern for the rim?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s really easy. I made a video. Changing bolt patterns with 3D printing. 4x130 to 4x156. VW rail buggy gets SXS wheels.

    That rollcage is useless, your head is above it. Talk about massive head injury if you roll over!
