@@loki5595 well, domesticated birds are used to being kept as pets and don't know how to survive in the wild. If you were to set them free, they would die.
If a domesticated bird heard another bird outside, it wouldn't always want to play with it because it is a complete stranger to it. Pet birds usually don't get lonely because most owners by more then one bird to keep each other company.
You were correct when you said that they shouldn't be kept locked up in cages. However, good bird owners let their bird out of their cage for several hours daily and provide them with a large cage with lots of toys so that they don't get bored. Unfortunately, there are some bird owners who never take their bird out and keep them in tiny cages with no toys.

Hello! Glad to see you making videos again. Masked lovebird is a different species - Agapornis personatus. You have Agapornis fisheri. Although they can interbreed, it is considered unethical to interbreed species in order to preserve the original ones. Also peach-faced lovebird is different species - Agapornis roseicellis. He can also interbreed with fisher lovebird, but the chicks are not fertile and can be prone to sickness, because peach-faced lovebird is even further relative - it is not an eye-ring species of lovebird. So i think the best thing is to get Agapornis fisheri - they also have blue mutations. My blue, probably male, lovebird loved your loki, he was trying to get into the screen when I watched your videos. Unfortunately died two weeks ago. His partner, probably female, cant stand another two lovebirds that I got later, and after her buddy died, it is even more aggressive towards the other two. If they were in same cage, I am sure someone would get killed. I read that female, if with partner, always rejects newcomer. Even if alone, it is not guaranteed that she will accept new male. So be prepared for a challenge. Lovebirds can hate their own more than other species, so you will need to supervise them carefuly. greetings from Slovakia.

I would've guessed no -- budgies and lovebirds are in different genuses, and have lived and evolved separately for a long time, and in most cases, even very closely related animals can rarely produce viable and/or fertile offspring. For example, donkeys and horses can mate and produce offspring, but the offspring are infertile.
I'd guess that it's likely that different of species of lovebirds and different species of budgies might be able to produce live offspring, though -- since some different kinds of macaws (like blue and gold macaws and scarlet macaws) can mate with each other and produce offspring.

It is impossible for a lovebird to produce viable offspring with a budgie the short version is the genetics are not compatible only birds that are close enough related in a genus can produce offspringthere there instances though we're some species that are not of the same genus have produced offspring but they're usually along the lines of being more closer related such as in Australia a cockatiel produced with a galah

I am part of a bird rescue. We had a small bird room where we kept several species of small birds, including budgies and lovebirds. We had a lovebird-budgie pair that chose each other, without us trying to do anything. The lovebird built a huge nest at the top of the closet. No eggs ever, but the two were inseparable.
And there were up to 10 each of lovebirds and budgies in that room at any given time, all with their own sets of cages but doors open and free flighted in the room. They can get along if there is plenty of room and lots of different feeding areas, so they can get away from each other if they want/need to.

you should get another fischer lovebird. you can find a blue fischer mutation but don't get the masked one as they are different types of lovebird and interbreeding isn't exactly good or recommended. its best to keep them to their own species. you'll have pure fischer lovebird babies and you will get a variety of colors since loki is orange yellow and green and the partner would most likely be blue since that's what you want to get.

Hello! I came to see the video because first thought of the title I thought "Omg please no." You seem like a nice guy and I'm glad at the end you said birds should breed within their own species. I think I should clarify this as a person who has worked at a place that has rescued hybrid birds... Breeding different bird species is dangerous, especially for the offspring. Birds have bred within their own species for hundreds of years and crossing species often results in the offspring having something wrong with it, either the wings don't develop properly or they have half a beak missing or their brains don't function properly. Not only is it cruel to the offspring but in some countries, like Australia, breeding different species is illegal because of how cruel it is. The place I volunteered at for a few of my teenage years occasionally had rescued Hybrid birds (the ones not brain dead) confiscated from breeders by authorities and lived at the sanctuary as best as we could take care of them. One was a Galah crossed with a Major Mitchell's Cockatoo and it had half of his bottom beak missing but could still manage to eat. Another Hybrid was a Eclectus parrot crossed with a cockatoo, she looked just like a female Eclectus parrot but her wings weren't fully developed so she couldn't fly and occasionally had seizures. We at the Sanctuary gave them as much love and try to give them a good life as we could despite their disabilities but sometimes unfortunately the best thing we could do for them was have them put down..... So please don't breed different species.

I do recommend the Lotino Peach Face Yellow (male) for a second lovebird. Sure look for a couple when you want eggs and new babv lovebirds. We do have the opposite version which is the Black mask as (male) and a Lotino peach face Yellow (female). Now the female lotino peacht face yellow is the most trained one here and as u know females do learn faster, the black mask male is really hard to tame and is teh most shy and acts more defensive, but he is younger and has more to learn. So fare no eggs, but i'm keeping an eye on the nest. Lives in an appartment like your place, fed with vegetables (chopped), seeds/nuts/rice and water. We still have our old parakeet but they do not want to live next to 2 Agapornis aka lovebirds. Succes

      @r.sanders8448 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Your birds won't start to mate until *THEY* are ready to, AFTER they have had time to decide to accept each other as their mate and form a bond that will last their entire lifetime.
Not when *you* want them to and try to get them to, no matter what you do....bc for all you know one or the other bird will simply REJECT the bird that you provided as their only option to bond and mate with for whatever reason
      OR
one or both birds haven't yet reached sexual maturity and their hormonal stage during their juvenile/adulthood transition age yet.
Even if you supplied a nest box/nest to them....most birds will still wait until they feel their natural hormonal instincts kick in during their juvenile/adulthood transition stage (between 2-4 years old) that naturally tells them that it's time for them to look for and choose a mate and to start breeding
      *AND*
after they already feel safe & secure both in their nest box/nest (with the least amount of human interference as possible inside their cage)
and that the location where their cage is placed is safe for their offspring for them to raise them there (with the least amount of human foot traffic constantly passing back & forth around their cage....which stresses them *VERY* much when they have eggs/chicks to guard).
Birds will also wait to mate until certain other aspects of their breeding season are met- which are........
proper weather conditions and temps. that are regularly rainy, thus.. neither too hot nor too cold to incubate and raise their clutch of babies safely
(usually the the rainy seasons in Spring from Jan-May and the rainy seasons in Fall from July to Oct...because the extra moisture in the air during those months helps to prevent chicks from sticking to the inside of their shell as they are hatching, which can cause the skin to literally be peeled off of the chick if this is allowed to happen by a negligent/ignorant owner that hasn't even bothered to first research & educate themselves about proper breeding practices of birds and everything that could possibly go wrong....
*BEFORE* deciding to ignorantly just put a nest box in the cage and allowing their birds to mate & breed....
and being caused by conditions that are much too *arid & dry* with not enough of a water source around the mother hen for her to dip in to wet her under feathers occasionally and/or not enough moisture in the air around the nest box during the entire incubation period of the eggs).
As well as a plentiful balanced food source provided for them/the male to be able to properly feed to the brooding hen while she has to remain on the eggs for the 17-24 day incubation period and to their young chicks once hatched.. in order for them to raise strong healthy babies
(they *MUST* always have on hand a mineral block & cuttlebone source to provide PLENTY of Calcium..and Iron.. to the brooding hen-for her to make strong egg shells for her babies (and also to prevent the female from dieing from possible Calcium deficiency!)....
and feed to the chicks when they hatch-for them to develope strong healthy bones/beaks and healthy feather development.
For these same reasons....you MUST also provide either an eggfood supplement mixed in with their food source AND/OR mix boiled egg w/ crushed eggshells in with their fresh veggies/chop at least 3-4 times per week for at least a full month *BEFORE* they start mating and laying eggs and also throughout the entire time until the chicks begin to start weaning and fledging from their nest box to go out on their own and start feeding for themselves, too.
If you don't...and fail to provide the extra Calcium, Potassium & Iron that both the male bird (to prevent him dieing from exhaustion due to his constant diligent work at keeping the female and the chicks fed),
      the female hen
      AND
the chicks need in order to *be* and *remain* fully healthy-
then you take a very high risk during *THE* most stressful, time consuming and hard working period of a birds entire life...
that your female (or male) bird will die from either simple exhaustion OR Calcium/mineral deficiency
and that most of the chicks will not develope properly or be strong & healthy enough.
Which will only result in many..if not all..of them being hatched with either deformities and/or ending up dieing later on at a very young age and much too early in their lifespan because of all the health issues that are likely to result from a poor insufficient diet that was provided during their egg development and early feeding/growth development.
(Typically hidden health issues with heart, lungs & poor bone/beak/feet development...that show up more and more later on as they grow and age).

Sorry, but this wasn't such a good idea. The DNS does not match. This knows everybody. You don't do experiments with live animals. Lovebirds and parakeets would never meet in the wild. As you said, each species needs its own partner and cage, which must be much bigger for a couple. You are lucky that nothing happened to the parakeet.

Took my budgie over a year before he liked me. Now he’s totally infatuated. Perches on my finger and gives me the sweetest little smooches. They may just need more time.

      @killerxxriver4449 3 ปีที่แล้ว

same with me. But I did find a technique. I just started from scratch and watched multiple taming videos. when I say starting form starch I mean not making them perch on my finger or making them eat food from my hand just getting them used to it by putting it in the cage and only changing their food and water and tray.. but it will take some months.

Pleased, if you want the best for Loki buy a male of the same race. Maybe a Mix looks better, but she will be happier with one of their own. Look, like it is in nature, they don't mix each other.

Please dont pair your lovebird with a masked one... they are of different species and will produce hybrid offspring. Your bird is an agapornis fischeri while masked lovebirds are agapornis personatus or sometimes referred to as personata. Keeping the same species ensures the health of your bird. If you do some research regarding their mutations, you will be amaze of how many variants there are out there.
