    i think a lot of people miss this. vaders second, fourth and fifth lines to ahsoka is not a threat but a warning. He doesn’t want to hurt her like he hurt padme. He know once he starts fighting her he cannot stop himself from destroying her.
    His second line to her “we need not be adversaries” meaning i don’t want to fight you.
    Fourth: “Anakin Skywalker was weak. I destroyed him” meaning the person you are looking for is not here. If you fight me i will destroy you like i did your master
    Fifth: “Revenge is not the jedi way” this is his last attempt to tell her to listen to his training and walk away. But like anakin ahsoka does not hide her feelings.

Then when Maul kills the Seventh sister, their son turns around and asks "Wait, did Maul just kill mom?" Freddie and Sarah looked at each other briefly then said yes. Then their son just turned back around to watch the remainder of the episode.

    If you look closely, after Ahsoka says "I won't leave you! Not this time." And it switches to a panning shot of the two of them, you can see the wind pushing Vader's cape forward, against his back. Usually, the cape is billowing out behind him, making him appear more intimidating, more imposing, and just plain scary. Here, however, it has almost the opposite affect. Instead of making him look bigger, he looks smaller, and the cape highlights it. It accentuates his outline and makes it clear that he's not Vader at this moment. Here, in this moment of conflict, both inner and outer, the true Anakin Skywalker comes out and sees who his Padawan has become. It only lasts a few seconds before Vader takes over again, but it was perfect. Everything, from the cape, to the music, and the small expression changes that we see on Ahsoka and Anakin's faces all build into a perfect way for us to say goodbye to our favorite ex-Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

    When Vader and Ahsoka have that moment of silence with that haunting rendition of her theme in the background...that is still to this day the most powerful moment in all of Star Wars for me. There's so much history, so much left unsaid, all in that brief haunting moment.
    And the fact they brought Matt back was GENIUS. The SECOND I heard his voice it was like my blood turned to ice.

    That final scene... it ALWAYS gets me.
    - Hera caressing Kanan's face (when he promised that they would SEE each other again) before embracing him.
    - Ezra and Rex exchanging a single look, and Rex IMMEDIATELY knew that Ahsoka was gone, and he just closed his eyes to accept what happened.
    - Finally, Ezra opening the Sith Holocron by finally awakening the power of the dark side. He experienced a failure and suffered so much from it, and thus feels the need to become more powerful, something that tempts people to bring the dark side.
    The Season Finale of Season 1 was a hopeful one, but this one? This was despair, with things having no upside from it. It looked almost as if things would be going downhill from there.

  • @PierceArner
    @PierceArner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    My favourite three things & one extra:
    • The last thing Kanan promised is that he'd see Hera again... which is _exactly_ the thing that he literally can't do anymore. He can't see what's going to happen and it's a lesson that he can't forget any more and it's gonna change him forever.
    • Maul is trying to take Ezra, because he's genuinely been left empty and alone so many times: Grievous murdered all of the Nightsisters so he has nowhere to return home to, Palpatine never came back for him after he survived _and_ killed Savage which is the closest family Maul ever had, and as we see a tiny bit of in Solo: he eventually lost Crimson Dawn and ended up alone again on Malachor. He's always so close to finding a place to belong and then losing it because of power and revenge and you can see him struggling with those impulses.
    • Ahsoka actually hearing Anakin's voice directly under Vader's mask always hits me SO hard. The shift from James Earl Jones into Matt Lanter is the one thing that would stop Ahsoka from being able to leave. It was one of the most impactful moments especially after Clone Wars got cut short.
    The little extra: At 4:07 Maul says, _"Running away _*_again,_*_ Lady Tano?"_ which is foreshadowing a past event of the two of them meeting that is something *_none_* of us have seen... yet.

    • @cenotemirror
      @cenotemirror 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Wrt your first one, I’ll give you another bit of Kanan foreshadowing:
      Kanan, the episode before the finale: “Never take your attention off an enemy, Ezra!”
      Also Kanan, this episode: *takes attention off Maul to glance at Ahsoka* *is immediately blindsided*

    Maul’s new saber seems to be a damaged inquisitor saber. As far as I know, we still don’t have any backstory for how he got it. Given the 8th brother was hunting him, the assumption is he killed another inquisitor and took their saber. We know he’s had it for at least seven years, since he had it in Solo.

    • @PierceArner
      @PierceArner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I especially like that because it helps really portray that Maul isn't lying when he says that he hates the Inquisitors. He's very much in the role of, _"The enemy of my enemy"_ which is the best way to use his character at this point in time.

    • @tylerboim3427

      @@PierceArner Maul dislikes the inquisitors and vader, but only for one reason. He hates sidious. If you read the son of dathomir comics, the battle between maul and sidious where he captures dooku and grivous, but sidious kills talzin, you can tell the maul has pure hatred for sidious now, and vader and the inquisitors are his second replacement but he just wants to kill sidious. I remember at the time, everyone assumed that Ashoka had died. With no answers and months till season 3, everyone went through the last scene with a fine tooth comb. The imagery of Vader walking away into the sunlight, combined with the bird flying overhead as Ashoka walks into the pitch black darkness of the temple, led many people to believe that this was Disney's way of killing her off screen by implying that she was dying/would die in that temple. (Similar to how Avatar couldn't outright kill Jet on camera, so it hinted that he died by having Toph say he was lying when he said he'd be okay.) A drawing Dave Filoni released didn't help and as season 3 progressed and there was no hint of Ashoka, it was basically confirmed that she'd died until (season 4?) came out and revealed what happened to her.

    Oh my god, that reaction was beautiful. Son, you did really well editing and Xelle. I have no idea how hard it probably was seeing these two fight and seeing this hatred in Anakin. I am still amazed how they brought back Matt Lanter one last time.

    We saw earlier in the season how powerful Ahsoka has become when she faces the two inquisitors together and gets the upper hand. Now we get to see her in full flow, fighting *Darth* *Vader* one-on-one and actually landing the first strike. Of course it's as much an emotional struggle as a physical one, because both are highly conflicted because of their shared history.
