One thing I wished people didn’t immediately assume is that Vader was trying to trick Ahsoka when he says her name. He looks visibly moved when she says she won’t leave him, and it’s almost like a glimmer of his old self peeks out before it’s extinguished.

Dave Filoni said that even if Ahsokah had went with Vader, he would have killed her. She brought him back for a second but the only one to really move Vader’s heart was his son. All of this was said in an interview

theres a beautiful edit that exists during his "Then you will die" line where Anakins eye is blue, and his voice is much clearer without the Vader filter, but as he delivers the "Die" line his eyes go back to the sith orange and it goes full vader voice. It shows off that doubt that ANAKIN had, before vaders anger and hatred took over.

Vader usually fights one handed with weaker opponents but switches to two handed if they last longer than he expects. So when he immediately fights with two hands it shows that Vader knows and respects how much Anakin has trained his padawan

    • @ArribaElMole

Yes, but he destroyed her with two hands. And it really was quite difficult to fight Vader, one robotic hand felt like two and I don't know what the power of 4 feels like bursting into your defense.
I think Ahsoka understood that making fast and light attacks was the only way to beat him, and realizing it he changes his fighting style and starts playing with her

If you notice in Kenobi this isn't true he's still one handed. He starts switching to two handed after a certain period of time by learning from his mistakes. The most heart wrenching part of this is when ashoka says
"I won't leave you, not this time." - The way she says this is the whole punch.
The first half, its the young girl, the loyal friend of Anakin who battled alongside him and shared in his jokes and humour.
The second is an apology and a solumn promise. Sorry for leaving before, sorry for not being there when he needed her, and also the promise to put an end to his suffering and to let him br at peace.
Anakin is momentarily taken back by what she says, he knows she means it and he looks stung, then Vader comes back out.

This actually feels like something more than just Anakin and Ahsoka.... 'Anakin Skywalker was weak, I destroyed him'... when Ahsoka says that she will avenge him.... this sounds so much like the Son and Daughter from Mortis. Anakin was subjected to what the Son wanted (what is seen, can never be 'unseen', regardless of what the Father did), whilst Ahsoka was given the lifeforce of the Daughter, and a new, more powerful life.
The parallels from the Mortis arc, and this episode is too much to be a coincidence.... the Daughter realises what the Son has done, and confronts him. In the battle that follows, she wins a couple of fights, but he eventually gains the upper hand... and this is essentially repeated here.
When Ahsoka replies with, 'I am no Jedi'.... she is speaking with the aspect of the Daughter. It really takes a special focus in the force to undo the 'Sith bleed effect' on khyber crystals, to change them to pure white.... and it is not something that can be taught.

Came around to see this again, and finally noticed a detail: Vader fights Ahsoka by holding the lightsaber in both hands. He's taking this fight very seriously. You watch his appearances against the Jedi in "Rebels" and in other recent Star Wars media, and he fights other Jedi with the saber only in his right hand. I don't believe that's just chance. It's story design. It's a sign of arrogance and contempt: "I'll fight you one-handed just to entertain myself and make it seem fair." This fight caused him to snap out of that mode. Skywalker trained her very well, and he knew it.

This episode and this scene still gets me all these years later. This was a powerful scene in the show. There is nothing like watching this show as it came out. The uncertainty and anxious anticipation when the season ended kept me on the edge of my seat and counting down the days to the next season. This was the episode that officially got me hooked to the show. And the music when they begin fighting was just perfect. It simultaneously conveyed the tragedy of what was happening and the inevitability of the battle.

I think the fact that he knew her before he changed is part of why she never could've helped him. Whenever he gets near the light, Vader can always make the excuse in his own head that the people he knew didn't help him when he needed it or were even responsible for his fate. He can't bring himself to kill Luke because unlike every other fight, Luke's opposition to Vader is entirely because Vader valued his loyalty to Palpatine more then anything else and Luke is, well, a good person in a bad situation.

He didn't trick her by saying her name I belive he was trying to spare her giving her seconds to retreat as he stands there in silence but since she wouldn't go and vader is too far gone at this point he reverted back to his mission and tried to kill her. But then again was he ? He's taken down jedi stronger than ashoka and he knows exactly how she fights I belive whether he was trying to kill her or not he was conflicted had he gone all out ashoka would've been dead
