Imagine what a day it was for Ashoka. She fought inquisitors, Maul, Vader and Darth Sidious all in the same day and survived. That can be considered quite an accomplishment :)
Dave Filoni confirmed that Ezra was in the world between worlds in S1 when he got his kyber crystal, and again in S2 when he talked with Yoda, he just didn’t know it yet because he was too naieve and not fully unlocked.
@This is where the fun begins Yoda does know it exists. I don’t think he would find it appropriate to use it in such a manner. I think like Ezra he was techincally in it just like Ezra was before, not completely like in this episode.

I always thought it was a reference to the Inquisitorius recruiting children from the Lothal Youth Academy, if only because that info came out much closer in time to the Minister’s attempted defection. I suppose a planet where the natural Force levels are high enough to warrant a Jedi Temple would also produce higher-than-average numbers of force sensitives, too. The natives of Lothal grow up in a high-force environment (when the planet isn’t on fire) similarly I always assumed that Mandalorians are typically not Force sensitive because their planetary ecosystem is dead.
Triple D good point. It didn’t seem like they were actively looking for mystic stuff before then though. I think “TIE Defender” and “Force Weirdness in General” suffices for reasons. First they were looking into force sensitive kiddos, then the temple, then the gate, etc, while the whole time Thrawn’s “secret project” was also going on, partly to cover the Inquisitorius stuff. “Secret Imps? They’re just here to build fancy TIEs. They aren’t digging up any temples!”
That's a really cool detail that I missed. I know Dave said since S1 that Lothal was important to the Force, but I sort of always figured this last arc was developed solely for S4.
I just wonder what the connection between Mortis and Lothal is. I mean is this portal just accessible with lothal? What do the loth wolves have to do with Mortis and the connection there. Also Kanan’s importance to lothal. I mean he was probably from there but what do those cave paintings mean about his backstory? So MaNy QUeSTIoNs

@@SwaggerLikeUz it may not even be the last time we'll see or hear about it. Ahsoka is one of the last person to know about Mortis, as well as having experienced it. So I'm pretty sure that when and where we'll see her again, Mortis or anything related to it will pop up again. I remember when I saw the trailer for this season back when it released, and the moment I saw the mural pop up in the trailer I was certain we'd see Ahsoka again.

At the SW Celebration panel for the last season of Rebels, Dave Filoni wore a shirt that said “Ahsoka Lives?” He removed the question mark right at the end, revealing an exclamation point. And then we had to wait to see when and how that would be fulfilled.
If you notice the portal where Ezra saw Kanan was the same one where Sidious appeared, meaning it’s likely that that was an illusion created by him to try and lure Ezra.
If you listen closely, when Sidious appears, you can here his voice morphs from Kanan's to his. It was a trap by Sidious to try to get Ezra to pull him in. Imagine what kind of damage the Emperor could do if he was granted access to such a place.
@@CasualRonin If the Emperor had made it into the World Between Worlds, that would have been it: he would have won. Forever. In this episode, the Rebels stopped the most evil being in the universe from gaining ultimate power and complete control over the Force and the universe. Arguably, the most important battle in all of Star Wars.
@@AzguardMike Well... Sidious kinda allowed that to happen, both because it served him in the moment and served to help him win over the Senate. Also, Palpatine doesn't really care what he looks like, so long as he has supreme power.
I think the "One last lesson" is "Letting go". It's a lesson both of them needed - Ahsoka couldn't let Anakin go in the end of Season 2 (hence why she stayed and almost died) and Ezra couldn't let Kanan go up until now (and almost ripped all of time and space lol). It's he same lesson Anakin never learnt and which ultimately led to his downfall.

@@jmwilliamsart it doesn't mean don't care, you're taking it far too literally, it more means don't fear their death or your own, accept that its part of life and don't mourn them, instead celebrate their life and cherish the memories you have of them, for the Jedi in Star Wars death isn't the end anyway, for they can live on as one with the Force, hence why Yoda says to Anakin to be at peace knowing those who pass become one with the Force and are still there, unseen, unheard, watching over you and when its your time, don't fear death, accept that its your time and be at peace with yourself in your final moments
In the World Between Worlds, This is actually the only time where all of the movies would collide, hearing the past of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, to the future of Kylo Ren. The Galaxy had many outcomes no matter what you do or what changes in history you make, but the lesson of letting go has a bit of a deep meaning. Sometimes bad things will happen, but it could lead to a better future in the long term.

Dark Obsidian I like to think about the Legend books,games,stories as an alternate timeline, and the only connection between Legends and Canon is this "World".
This episode is all the more telling and heartbreaking when you realized that Kanan’s Will in the Wolf Dume, didn’t send Ezra to the Temple and in the World Between Worlds to save Kanan, It sent him there to learn the one lesson that Kanan has been trying to teach Ezra from the very beginning; learning to let go. And he had to learn that lesson through Ahsoka because if anyone can understand the pain Ezra is going through, it’s Ahsoka. And that lesson is also to the fans of the show as well (even though I’m still salty because Kanan deserved better) Also the final scene with Ezra’s goodbye to Kanan hurts my very heart and soul. The gorgeous music, the way that Ezra and the Loth Wolf are just gazing at each other knowingly, and then Ezra saying goodbye, silently thanking Kanan for everything he’s done for him: giving him a family, a home, a father figure, teaching him how to live, and loving him unconditionally. It’s a beautiful, bittersweet scene

Ian McDiarmid, Palpatine/Sidious’ original actor, voice acted here. To have him say the names “Ahsoka Tano” and “Ezra Bridger” was incredibly satisfying.
How Filoni handled Kanan’s death, the way it affected everything and everyone, how they coped, the results of his sacrifice, is truly beautiful. Seeing that wolf turn around into the blinding light, Kanan telling Ezra and Ezra alone goodbye.
Trey Goldsworthy well the whill of the force runs through every being. But Dume the wolf specifically wanted to save Ahsoka because Kanan knew he was partly responsible for getting Ahsoka in that situation.
To expand on that, and to those who have only watched the movies, it's actually inspired by the Wood between Worlds, which is a place that existed long before Narnia. In fact, the Professor from the first movie was one of the two children to discover this place... And he is also responsible for having brought the White Witch to Narnia (by accident, her world was connected to the Wood between Worlds, and they just happened to wake her up).
@@inhale1 indeed. There are actually many reasons as to why Ahsoka doesn't return with Ezra: - the first one is that while it's not time travel, Morai and Ezra have created a time loop. Which means that, in order to survive, she has to go back to her own timeline and never interact with the others again before Ezra saves her in the World between Worlds. Because if she does indeed go back to Atollon, she doesn't give Ezra a reason to save her, thus "erasing" herself. - the second one is that she doesn't belong to the same timeline as Ezra (the one who saved her), and even if it's not as dangerous as altering the past, it's still a bad idea. Perhaps it wouldn't have any effect on the timeline, since past Ezra would still watch her stay behind, thus present Ezra would save her when he sees her again, so the time loop would stay stable. But Ahsoka could probably suffer a massive backlash if she did come back with Ezra. For example, imagine you pull a soldier from WW1, in 1914, and drop him in 1918. And he has to learn about everything that happened during these 4 years of war. His sanity would break. Also, there is no guarantee that the World between Worlds doesn't have some sort of defense mechanism to prevent someone from one timeline to go into another. Which means that she could still be "erased" if she doesn't return from where she came from (specifically because the time loop also involves Ahsoka going through the door below the Temple, and if she doesn't she change her timeline). - and finally, the Emperor knows she's alive, where Vader reported her as dead. Which is why returning to her own timeline makes sense: it gives her a headstart to avoid being hunted down by the Empire again. By doing so, if present Sidious orders for her to be tracked down again, they'll have to start by Malachor. But by this point, it's been months (or years?) since the events of her duel with Vader, which gives her plenty of time to leave Malachor and hide somewhere else.

I mean, if such a thing meant having two Ahsoka, one that stays in her timeline and another that goes with Ezra, that would be awesome (one is already enough to wipe the floor with two Inquisitors, so I don't know what two would do together, but that would be awesome. Funnily enough, I think there is a fanfic where Ahsoka is teleported to the time of the Prequels, and tags along with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan during Episode I. I can't remember the name, but there is one moment where she has an "Oh crap" moment when a Jedi tells her there is a youngling with the same family name). But unfortunately, time doesn't work that way, even if what they did wasn't tile travel. And if there's one thing I've learnt in fiction about playing with time, it's that even the smallest action can have dire consequences. It's the equivalent of playing with a nuke while it's still active.
Precisely! I often get agitated when people on Social media and message boards complain about this episode stating that it introduced Time Travel to Star Wars. Its basically a causal loop that allowed Ahsoka to escape unscathed. Besides, we actually saw her descending from the temple steps in this episode just like in S2 (where we see her silhouette).
I mean its obviously not, its the realm of the Force reaching out across all of time and space, I theorise its where the Celestials first came from too
When asked about it, Dave Filoni is very hesitant to say what happened in this episode is time travel. “I don't really think of it as time travel. It's not really a thing where you go through one door and out another in a different time. The world between worlds is really about knowledge and gaining knowledge. As the Dume wolf says, what's in there is knowledge and destruction. You can gain knowledge of the future or futures that may happen, and you can see things that happened in the past. You can at times choose to alter them, but it's perilous to do so and when you alter something you don't know if that's not the way it always happened. So destruction is the other half of what's in there. When you go through these doorways, you're in peril of destruction because you're missing all sorts of things that would have happened or things would've happened otherwise, you know, so it's a dangerous game but it's not something we're here going in and out of different doors. It's an extension of the Jedi's ability to perceive the future and the past...”
also if you think about it isn't this power like a closed loop time travel? The thing you changed becomes how it always was instead of breaking the timeline.
That would make sense actually, when they meditate and receive visions of the future, they somehow go to (maybe its like a form of astral projection?) the World Between Worlds and are able to see future events
Xelle is living out an exceptionally rare experience where she’s happily watching a SW show while hearing echos of quotes from the more famous SW movies that she’s presumably never seen.
Ezra: “I wish my life were different.” He’s lost his parents, his family friends, his childhood home, his planet and for four (4) seasons the only thing he’s ever wanted was to see his parents again, save his planet and help others. Despite constantly being told ‘not yet’, ‘today is not the day’, and ‘you have to be patient’, and the constant temptation to take the easy route, he still handles it with great courage and selfless dedication to the tasks at hand. I’m so proud of this young man and how much he has grown. This story is phenomenally told and this episode is partly why I’m here. Ezra: “I know what I have to do now.” Let’s wrap up the rest of the story with a smile and appreciation for these wonderful animators, voice actors and writers. Fantastic reaction as usual, Xelle!
Just to point out from her perspective Ahsoka fights three inquisitors, Maul, Vader and the freakin' Emperor in about an hour! Think she earned a nap after that... Also that shot of her coming through the Sith fire with those white blades might be my favourite in all of Star Wars (though there's moments in S7 of Clone Wars that are now running it really close). Ahsoka is just the best... Think I might have strains an eyeball trying to watch both the Vader fight and the reaction at once which... owwww but worth it! Chopper's little "run or die" is perfect. *FINALLY* getting to hear Ian McDiarmid's emperor say Ashoka's name was *shivers*. Oh and props to the creative team for coming up with a way to link time and space that doesn't instantly wreck the universe.
The World Between Worlds is a realm outside of the time-space continuum. It’s a physical representation of how, as Obi-Wan said in ANH, the Force binds the universe together regardless of time and space. The Force isn’t bound to that continuum. That’s why we hear quotes from the prequels, TCW, Rebels, Rogue One, the OT, and yes, the ST as well. This episode was made in 2017 and aired in 2018, so it featured quotes from stuff up until TLJ, which wasn’t out by the time this episode was produced. Also, Sidious used Sith sorcery to tear open a portal to the World Between Worlds since he can’t enter the temple physically like Ezra did since he’s not a Jedi. He also used this sorcery in “Sacrifice” from TCW when he made that vision for Yoda with Dooku. He also conjured the vision of Kanan’s death as a trap. If you listen to “Perhaps I can”, it starts in Kanan’s voice before transitioning to his own voice. It was a trap to get Ezra to pull Sidious into the World Between Worlds.

Alright, so we finally got to this episode. You know, you're lucky to watch this series now that it's over, because we had to wait for 2 years to know what happened to Ahsoka. And let me tell you, that was a long wait. A few things about the episode: - the World between Worlds was inspired by the Wood between Worlds from the Narnia books. It is the place where the main protagonists of the first book spend most of their adventure, and use it to jump from one world to the next. If I'm not wrong, it is described as a small forest with ponds, and each pond is connected to a world. One of them is the homeworld of the White Witch, and another is Narnia (which is created by Aslan near the end of the book). The book being a prequel to the rest of the Narnia series, and especially the first movie, it explains the origin of some of the landmarks and characters we see in this movie. - Morai is a convor, which is some sort of owl with a monkey tail (though in the Fandom, most people just call her "the owl"). What relationship she has with the Daughter isn't very clear. She is either an avatar/symbol of her (like the owl is to the Greek Goddess Athena) or the Daughter herself in a weakened form. Though, according to what Ahsoka said, it is most likely the latter (we also hear the Daughter's voice when Ahsoka calls Morai to her). What connection Ahsoka and Morai share is even more unclear, but it is believed that part of the Daughter still lives on in Ahsoka due to her having been resurrected on Mortis by the Daughter. Whatever the explanation is, it is related to Mortis and this event in particular. - after Twilight of the Apprentice, Dave Filoni drew several Topp cards (for the app of the same name) showing us what happened after Ahsoka went through the triangular door. They are very cryptic, but we do see Ahsoka and Morai exploring what appears to be a place underneath the Sith Temple, and the last pic is Ahsoka standing in the center of what appears to be the Lothal portal (you know, the circle of wolves that Ezra used to enter the World between Worlds). What they mean exactly however is still unknown. - and finally, because Filoni apparently enjoyed watching the fans bang their heads against the wall in an attempt to understand what happened to Ahsoka, he also revealed that Ahsoka had met the Bendu before Twilight of the Apprentice. I'm sure you can find the story on the internet, but to make it short, he told her that this mission would bring change, and by that he meant death. Ahsoka asked if she will die, but the Bendu answered by "Will you? I didn't know that". Again, it is not exactly clear why he said that, but if he was referring to her when he said "death", it's possible he was talking about how he couldn't see if she would die, because Ezra pulled her into the World between Worlds, a place that technically doesn't really exist, making it hard to sense people in it. Apparently, it's also why Vader left the planet without checking if she was alive or not : because she was in a place where he couldn't sense her, so he thought she was dead.
In canon it says that there is a Sith temple beneath the Jedi Temple, I'm guessing that is where Sidious was. As a Sith Sorcerer, Darth Sidious is probably one of the greatest Sorcerers of all time, but it appears he could not step into this world beyond worlds, he needed to be invited in. If he had managed to cross over, Darth Sidious would have had power over space and time. He would not have needed Vader or any other apprentice. He could have truly been immortal, and built an Empire that would never end. I think that is what the Loth wolves were trying to prevent.
The world between worlds can ONLY be accessed by the light side of the force. Like a Jedi holocron. When you use the dark side the temple destroys itself to protect the entrance. We we that twice when the inquisitors access the temple, only for it to turn red and the temple’s defenses to subdue them and lock the temple out. We see it again wen Ezra uses the dark side to close the temple, that’s why he passes out. The temple then completely and permanently destroys himself. Palpatine most likely has a portal gate in his possession and was going to use force magic to use Ezra to gain access.
@@cowdashoenuts That idea was kinda built upon when Luke set up his Jedi Order on Yavin 4, they cleansed the Sith spirit of Naga Saddow that was there then Luke built his Jedi Temple on that exact site (this is in Legends canon)
6:58 One of the heart-sinking lines i’ve ever heard in all of Star Wars. There’s so much weight and grief that carries me back all through the Clone Wars. It reminds me just how tragic Star Wars is.
The lesson was to let go of his attachments. Kanan's time came, and as much as it hurts, he has to accept it and move on. Last episode Ezra said "You never prepared me for this". This was Kanan's way of doing so.
I'm on marathon mode, watching this last arc all in one go so I know I'm late but imma just write down my thoughts • Ahsoka lives! She just amazing, she fought 3 with Lords, one of them the most poweful lightsaber fighter and the Chosen one and the other.... Well, he is the most powerful being in the Galaxy but she just held him off and repelled him more that fought BUT STILL. AND fought 3 Inquisitors in the Spam of like 2h(?) Wow Also, Ahsoka taught Erza one last lesson "Let go". Something that she had to realize too. She cant save her master but minutes ago she, without hesitation, was about to lay down her life to save Vader, she can't save Anakin. She stopped her defending stance, pushed Vader off, broke the floor to protect him form the upcoming explosion. Saceifacing herself for someone who is trying to kill her and that was about to do it when she got pulled out. I found it heartbreaking. • The voices are from characters from the whole franchise. Someone listed them on the comments. • They actually handled the time travel stuff quite well XD Frachises once they reach a certain point use time travel to solve stuff up and have more content to offer which messes up continuity or just becomes confusing but here I belive they made it simple yet mysterious ^-^ And that's it I think.
I can’t help notice. Ashoka stopping Darth Sidious coming through the portal was going to be in a clone wars arc. Also some of the art for the clone wars arc of the Sith temple under Coruscant that never got released ended up looking a lot like parts of Malachor. Also the Crystal Crisis Clone Wars arc clearly became that Death Star crystal arc in rebels and Stigeon Prime prison in rebels season one where they met the grand inquisitor was originally from the Maul arc that became the Son of Dathomir comic. Really sad they stopped Clone Wars when it just got soo good in the final seasons. It’s all in clone wars legacy and clone wars untold videos on Yt. Maybe they’ll still release them completed. One day...
I haven't seen anyone else comment this but; It is a scary thought that Palpatine was speaking through the same portal that they saw Kanan in. Imagine what would have happened if Ezra tried to pull Kanan out, maybe we would have pulled Palpatine in instead....
U got it! Bingo no Kanan, jus Sidious for Christmas. Thank God, Ezra listened to Ahsoka's wisdom. "Let go" was the lesson, like Bendu taught Kanan earlier in the season.
While this is one of my favorite episodes of the show, and probably favorite scenes in all of Star Wars as a whole due to the amazing lore that it gives us...I also deeply hate it. Because thanks to this episode I had to see the death of Kanan AGAIN. His death was not meaningless though, as it gave us Ahsoka back. This episode is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish.
Kevin Kiner deserves more praise. His Clone Wars & Rebels score is truly breathtaking. He deserves to be the heir to the empire in scoring the future of live action films
This is such a great episode of rebels, it's always hard to see ezra not being able to save kanan. But seeing Ian McDiarmid the original actor for palps doing the voice again. Morai the owl has spiritual ties with the daughter, form mortis.
The ending of that episode was soooo beautiful it got me in tears but I really love how mysterious the force works and how amazing was to see the Drawings of the Mortis gods moving but this was one of my favorites episodes
The last scene in the remains of the temple is one of the most memorable I have of Kanan -- and he’s not even in it! You see him through others’ eyes and words: Hera and her heartbreaking stare and grasp of her shoulder, Ezra reaching new depths of understanding, and the wolf full of wisdom and locking eyes in the distance. Epic.
I love the depictions of the Mortis gods. With the Daughter, peace becomes reverence With the Son, aggression becomes submission And with the Father, balance is maintained. A good way to show how too much of one side or the other can lead to inaction.
Sith Sorcery is always fascinating to watch since it’s not always explored. The ancient Sith made use of these magics to astounding effects that makes modern Force abilities pale in comparison. Mother Talzin was Sidious’s possibly only equal in Dark Side magic(not the same as Sith magic) and would have been a real thorn in the Grand Plan had she learned true Sith magic. Luckily this stuff doesn’t have many battle applications. Imagine using this in a fight over nature Force abilities. The Jedi Order would have died out centuries ago.
It would be interesting to tie this realm back into the end of the mandolorian. Ashoka could help him enter that realm. He could become Mandolore the Great and the Child become the Jedi grand master we all know.
Star Wars does have something to do with time and space. Like some prophecies has been written but haven't been acknowledged. Like the universe kept countless of useful secrets to unfold for hope or destruction. Like understanding some histories of what every one else has been through either goodness or horror from the past, occurring in the present but the future hasn't yet written just yet.
This episode is so fun because it shows the limits of what can be done with the Force, and serves as a throwback to its more mystical aspects. The idea of manipulating time made people really nervous when this first came out, but it was executed so well that it doesn't really create any problems with the greater continuity. Palpatine's Sith sorcery was neat, and getting to finally see Ahsoka's fate in her duel with Vader provided great payoff to all the fans who'd speculated on whether she'd survived. Also, that scene with the paintings closing the portal gives me chills; they really hit it spot on with the imagery and music there. I'd recommend that, once you finish watching all of the available Star Wars content, you come back to this episode and listen to all the voices again. You'll pick up on a lot more than you would just from having seen the prequels, Clone Wars, and Rebels.
Every voice you hear is a line from one of the Star Wars movies or shows that had been released up to that point. They have lines from the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy, the Force Awakens, Rouge One, Clone Wars, and Rebels. To me this World Between Worlds is the ultimate embodiment of the Cosmic Force. It binds all of time and space and lets you not only view events from throughout the galaxy and from any time but even change them. It was heart breaking hearing Ahsoka say how both Kanan and Anakin were beyond the ability of their students to save them. For Ahsoka it has to be so hard to realize she can't save Anakin from the Dark Side. For Ezra he has to let go and say goodbye to Kanan. Saying goodbye is never an easy thing to do when someone you love passes away but its a key part of the grieving process. These last three episodes were one large goodbye to Kanan with the whole crew moving through their grief to say a final goodbye to Kanan Jarrus Jedi Knight.
Yes, there were voices from the sequels in this episode. Also for "not being a Jedi", Ahsoka truly acted like one by telling Ezra to let go and by not intervening to change the future with what she knew.
Even if you have the chance to change the future, some things are meant to happen, no matter how hard it can be. And yet we still actively shape our destiny. The Force moves in mysterious ways yet is best understood as the natural order of things. Always balancing itself out.
this is one of those episodes were it was almost made to give star wars fans a little blast from the past with all the different voices also why it's good to watch star wars movies first
Yeah this came out during the sequels so there are voices from the movies. This was a special moment cause this was the first time we got voices from the movies in the anime. Once you get through the originals and sequels you'll have a better appreciation for the episode. It's kinda cool tho seeing it from your perspective and seeing if you'll be able to recall the voices as you go through the story.

When this aired, it aired in December of 2017. So it included the voices of Rogue One, Force Awakens, etc. This is also a theory as to how Palpatine could “Save others from dying” like he tells Anakin in Ep3. Ezra had the same statement and prerogative: to save Kanan. Issue with the portal is it needs a light side user to open the portal and the dark side to close it. So Palpatine can’t enter it. That’s why when he grabs Ezra with the Sith magic he says “Show me the way, Ezra, help me”. So this could’ve been the method of how Palpatine could have saved those from dying like he promised Anakin.
This is such an awsome episode, you get to hear bits from rogue one, phantom menace, force awakens, clone wars and much more, loved all the connections.
Great episode reaction. Regarding to that time and space realm, I highly doubt that time manipulation will ever be a “thing”. I think that connection to the Mortis and Jedi is what makes Lothal unique and SPECIAL. Just my opinion.

The symbol above the portal that shows Kanan’s death is similar to a Sith symbol from the Old Republic in Legends. And it’s the same portal that the Emperor appears in. My guess would be there is a door in every Jedi and Sith temple. Palpatine made the Jedi Temple on Coruscant his palace so he could explore its mysteries unobserved. I believe the Jedi Temple was built on top of an ancient Sith temple, so Palpatine can explore that too.

Dave Filoni confirmed that Ezra was in the world between worlds in S1 when he got his kyber crystal, and again in S2 when he talked with Yoda, he just didn’t know it yet because he was too naieve and not fully unlocked.

I always thought it was a reference to the Inquisitorius recruiting children from the Lothal Youth Academy, if only because that info came out much closer in time to the Minister’s attempted defection. I suppose a planet where the natural Force levels are high enough to warrant a Jedi Temple would also produce higher-than-average numbers of force sensitives, too. The natives of Lothal grow up in a high-force environment (when the planet isn’t on fire) similarly I always assumed that Mandalorians are typically not Force sensitive because their planetary ecosystem is dead.

Triple D good point. It didn’t seem like they were actively looking for mystic stuff before then though. I think “TIE Defender” and “Force Weirdness in General” suffices for reasons. First they were looking into force sensitive kiddos, then the temple, then the gate, etc, while the whole time Thrawn’s “secret project” was also going on, partly to cover the Inquisitorius stuff. “Secret Imps? They’re just here to build fancy TIEs. They aren’t digging up any temples!”
That's a really cool detail that I missed. I know Dave said since S1 that Lothal was important to the Force, but I sort of always figured this last arc was developed solely for S4.
I just wonder what the connection between Mortis and Lothal is. I mean is this portal just accessible with lothal? What do the loth wolves have to do with Mortis and the connection there. The last 4 episodes brought tears with each viewing, and I loved every single one of them.
If you notice the portal where Ezra saw Kanan was the same one where Sidious appeared, meaning it’s likely that that was an illusion created by him to try and lure Ezra.
Never noticed that. A lot of details in these episodes that I missed because of the sheer shock factor of the World Between Worlds.
If you listen closely, when Sidious appears, you can here his voice morphs from Kanan's to his. It was a trap by Sidious to try to get Ezra to pull him in. Imagine what kind of damage the Emperor could do if he was granted access to such a place.

In this episode, the Rebels stopped the most evil being in the universe from gaining ultimate power and complete control over the Force and the universe. Arguably, the most important battle in all of Star Wars.
@@AzguardMike Well... Sidious kinda allowed that to happen, both because it served him in the moment and served to help him win over the Senate. Also, Palpatine doesn't really care what he looks like, so long as he has supreme power.
I think the "One last lesson" is "Letting go". It's a lesson both of them needed - Ahsoka couldn't let Anakin go in the end of Season 2 (hence why she stayed and almost died) and Ezra couldn't let Kanan go up until now (and almost ripped all of time and space lol). It's he same lesson Anakin never learnt and which ultimately led to his downfall.

@@jmwilliamsart it doesn't mean don't care, you're taking it far too literally, it more means don't fear their death or your own, accept that its part of life and don't mourn them, instead celebrate their life and cherish the memories you have of them, for the Jedi in Star Wars death isn't the end anyway, for they can live on as one with the Force, hence why Yoda says to Anakin to be at peace knowing those who pass become one with the Force and are still there, unseen, unheard, watching over you and when its your time, don't fear death, accept that its your time and be at peace with yourself in your final moments
In the World Between Worlds, This is actually the only time where all of the movies would collide, hearing the past of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, to the future of Kylo Ren. The Galaxy had many outcomes no matter what you do or what changes in history you make, but the lesson of letting go has a bit of a deep meaning. Sometimes bad things will happen, but it could lead to a better future in the long term.
Dark Obsidian true! Its an ancient indigenous concept too. Time, space, the present = 1. Everything is frequency like a radio with a dial. Hate = frequency, Love = frequency, etc.
Dark Obsidian I like to think about the Legend books,games,stories as an alternate timeline, and the only connection between Legends and Canon is this "World".

It's all coming together
This episode is all the more telling and heartbreaking when you realized that Kanan’s Will in the Wolf Dume, didn’t send Ezra to the Temple and in the World Between Worlds to save Kanan, It sent him there to learn the one lesson that Kanan has been trying to teach Ezra from the very beginning; learning to let go. And he had to learn that lesson through Ahsoka because if anyone can understand the pain Ezra is going through, it’s Ahsoka. And that lesson is also to the fans of the show as well (even though I’m still salty because Kanan deserved better)
Also the final scene with Ezra’s goodbye to Kanan hurts my very heart and soul. The gorgeous music, the way that Ezra and the Loth Wolf are just gazing at each other knowingly, and then Ezra saying goodbye, silently thanking Kanan for everything he’s done for him: giving him a family, a home, a father figure, teaching him how to live, and loving him unconditionally.
It’s a beautiful, bittersweet scene

Ian McDiarmid, Palpatine/Sidious’ original actor, voice acted here. To have him say the names “Ahsoka Tano” and “Ezra Bridger” was incredibly satisfying.
How Filoni handled Kanan’s death, the way it affected everything and everyone, how they coped, the results of his sacrifice, is truly beautiful. Seeing that wolf turn around into the blinding light, Kanan telling Ezra and Ezra alone goodbye.

Trey Goldsworthy well the whill of the force runs through every being. But Dume the wolf specifically wanted to save Ahsoka because Kanan knew he was partly responsible for getting Ahsoka in that situation.
Dave Filoni has always been firm that the world between worlds is NOT time travel. Think more Narnia.
To expand on that, and to those who have only watched the movies, it's actually inspired by the Wood between Worlds, which is a place that existed long before Narnia. In fact, the Professor from the first movie was one of the two children to discover this place... And he is also responsible for having brought the White Witch to Narnia (by accident, her world was connected to the Wood between Worlds, and they just happened to wake her up).
@@inhale1 indeed. There are actually many reasons as to why Ahsoka doesn't return with Ezra:
- the first one is that while it's not time travel, Morai and Ezra have created a time loop. Which means that, in order to survive, she has to go back to her own timeline and never interact with the others again before Ezra saves her in the World between Worlds. Because if she does indeed go back to Atollon, she doesn't give Ezra a reason to save her, thus "erasing" herself.
- the second one is that she doesn't belong to the same timeline as Ezra (the one who saved her), and even if it's not as dangerous as altering the past, it's still a bad idea. Perhaps it wouldn't have any effect on the timeline, since past Ezra would still watch her stay behind, thus present Ezra would save her when he sees her again, so the time loop would stay stable. But Ahsoka could probably suffer a massive backlash if she did come back with Ezra. For example, imagine you pull a soldier from WW1, in 1914, and drop him in 1918. And he has to learn about everything that happened during these 4 years of war. His sanity would break. Also, there is no guarantee that the World between Worlds doesn't have some sort of defense mechanism to prevent someone from one timeline to go into another. Which means that she could still be "erased" if she doesn't return from where she came from (specifically because the time loop also involves Ahsoka going through the door below the Temple, and if she doesn't she change her timeline).
- and finally, the Emperor knows she's alive, where Vader reported her as dead. Which is why returning to her own timeline makes sense: it gives her a headstart to avoid being hunted down by the Empire again. By doing so, if present Sidious orders for her to be tracked down again, they'll have to start by Malachor. But by this point, it's been months (or years?) since the events of her duel with Vader, which gives her plenty of time to leave Malachor and hide somewhere else.

I mean, if such a thing meant having two Ahsoka, one that stays in her timeline and another that goes with Ezra, that would be awesome (one is already enough to wipe the floor with two Inquisitors, so I don't know what two would do together, but that would be awesome. Funnily enough, I think there is a fanfic where Ahsoka is teleported to the time of the Prequels, and tags along with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan during Episode I. I can't remember the name, but there is one moment where she has an "Oh crap" moment when a Jedi tells her there is a youngling with the same family name). But unfortunately, time doesn't work that way, even if what they did wasn't tile travel. And if there's one thing I've learnt in fiction about playing with time, it's that even the smallest action can have dire consequences. It's the equivalent of playing with a nuke while it's still active.
Precisely! I often get agitated when people on Social media and message boards complain about this episode stating that it introduced Time Travel to Star Wars. Its basically a causal loop that allowed Ahsoka to escape unscathed. Besides, we actually saw her descending from the temple steps in this episode just like in S2 (where we see her silhouette).
I mean its obviously not, its the realm of the Force reaching out across all of time and space, I theorise its where the Celestials first came from too

When asked about it, Dave Filoni is very hesitant to say what happened in this episode is time travel. “I don't really think of it as time travel. It's not really a thing where you go through one door and out another in a different time. The world between worlds is really about knowledge and gaining knowledge. As the Dume wolf says, what's in there is knowledge and destruction. You can gain knowledge of the future or futures that may happen, and you can see things that happened in the past. You can at times choose to alter them, but it's perilous to do so and when you alter something you don't know if that's not the way it always happened. So destruction is the other half of what's in there. When you go through these doorways, you're in peril of destruction because you're missing all sorts of things that would have happened or things would've happened otherwise, you know, so it's a dangerous game but it's not something we're here going in and out of different doors. It's an extension of the Jedi's ability to perceive the future and the past...”

I love when the emperor says “Help me” that isn’t him saying it it’s directly taken from the movie that’s playing in there because he’s breaching in
Ezra: “I wish my life were different.”
He’s lost his parents, his family friends, his childhood home, his planet and for four (4) seasons the only thing he’s ever wanted was to see his parents again, save his planet and help others. Despite constantly being told ‘not yet’, ‘today is not the day’, and ‘you have to be patient’, and the constant temptation to take the easy route, he still handles it with great courage and selfless dedication to the tasks at hand.
I’m so proud of this young man and how much he has grown. This story is phenomenally told and this episode is partly why I’m here.

Just to point out from her perspective Ahsoka fights three inquisitors, Maul, Vader and the freakin' Emperor in about an hour! Think she earned a nap after that... Also that shot of her coming through the Sith fire with those white blades might be my favourite in all of Star Wars (though there's moments in S7 of Clone Wars that are now running it really close). Ahsoka is just the best...
Think I might have strains an eyeball trying to watch both the Vader fight and the reaction at once which... owwww but worth it! Chopper's little "run or die" is perfect. *FINALLY* getting to hear Ian McDiarmid's emperor say Ashoka's name was *shivers*. Oh and props to the creative team for coming up with a way to link time and space that doesn't instantly wreck the universe.
The World Between Worlds is a realm outside of the time-space continuum. It’s a physical representation of how, as Obi-Wan said in ANH, the Force binds the universe together regardless of time and space. The Force isn’t bound to that continuum.
That’s why we hear quotes from the prequels, TCW, Rebels, Rogue One, the OT, and yes, the ST as well. This episode was made in 2017 and aired in 2018, so it featured quotes from stuff up until TLJ, which wasn’t out by the time this episode was produced.
Also, Sidious used Sith sorcery to tear open a portal to the World Between Worlds since he can’t enter the temple physically like Ezra did since he’s not a Jedi. He also used this sorcery in “Sacrifice” from TCW when he made that vision for Yoda with Dooku. He also conjured the vision of Kanan’s death as a trap. If you listen to “Perhaps I can”, it starts in Kanan’s voice before transitioning to his own voice. It was a trap to get Ezra to pull Sidious into the World Between Worlds.

Welp, a years long hide and seek game.
Alright, so we finally got to this episode. You know, you're lucky to watch this series now that it's over, because we had to wait for 2 years to know what happened to Ahsoka. And let me tell you, that was a long wait.
A few things about the episode:
- the World between Worlds was inspired by the Wood between Worlds from the Narnia books. It is the place where the main protagonists of the first book spend most of their adventure, and use it to jump from one world to the next. If I'm not wrong, it is described as a small forest with ponds, and each pond is connected to a world. One of them is the homeworld of the White Witch, and another is Narnia (which is created by Aslan near the end of the book). The book being a prequel to the rest of the Narnia series, and especially the first movie, it explains the origin of some of the landmarks and characters we see in this movie.
- Morai is a convor, which is some sort of owl with a monkey tail (though in the Fandom, most people just call her "the owl"). What relationship she has with the Daughter isn't very clear. She is either an avatar/symbol of her (like the owl is to the Greek Goddess Athena) or the Daughter herself in a weakened form. Though, according to what Ahsoka said, it is most likely the latter (we also hear the Daughter's voice when Ahsoka calls Morai to her). What connection Ahsoka and Morai share is even more unclear, but it is believed that part of the Daughter still lives on in Ahsoka due to her having been resurrected on Mortis by the Daughter. Whatever the explanation is, it is related to Mortis and this event in particular.
- after Twilight of the Apprentice, Dave Filoni drew several Topp cards (for the app of the same name) showing us what happened after Ahsoka went through the triangular door. They are very cryptic, but we do see Ahsoka and Morai exploring what appears to be a place underneath the Sith Temple, and the last pic is Ahsoka standing in the center of what appears to be the Lothal portal (you know, the circle of wolves that Ezra used to enter the World between Worlds). What they mean exactly however is still unknown.
- and finally, because Filoni apparently enjoyed watching the fans bang their heads against the wall in an attempt to understand what happened to Ahsoka, he also revealed that Ahsoka had met the Bendu before Twilight of the Apprentice. I'm sure you can find the story on the internet, but to make it short, he told her that this mission would bring change, and by that he meant death. Ahsoka asked if she will die, but the Bendu answered by "Will you? I didn't know that". Again, it is not exactly clear why he said that, but if he was referring to her when he said "death", it's possible he was talking about how he couldn't see if she would die, because Ezra pulled her into the World between Worlds, a place that technically doesn't really exist, making it hard to sense people in it. Apparently, it's also why Vader left the planet without checking if she was alive or not : because she was in a place where he couldn't sense her, so he thought she was dead.

In canon it says that there is a Sith temple beneath the Jedi Temple, I'm guessing that is where Sidious was. As a Sith Sorcerer, Darth Sidious is probably one of the greatest Sorcerers of all time, but it appears he could not step into this world beyond worlds, he needed to be invited in. If he had managed to cross over, Darth Sidious would have had power over space and time. He would not have needed Vader or any other apprentice. He could have truly been immortal, and built an Empire that would never end. I think that is what the Loth wolves were trying to prevent.
The world between worlds can ONLY be accessed by the light side of the force. Like a Jedi holocron. When you use the dark side the temple destroys itself to protect the entrance. We we that twice when the inquisitors access the temple, only for it to turn red and the temple’s defenses to subdue them and lock the temple out. We see it again wen Ezra uses the dark side to close the temple, that’s why he passes out. The temple then completely and permanently destroys himself. Palpatine most likely has a portal gate in his possession and was going to use force magic to use Ezra to gain access.
Yes it is cannon. The Jedi temple was built above it to keep the Dark side away somewhat.
@@cowdashoenuts That idea was kinda built upon when Luke set up his Jedi Order on Yavin 4, they cleansed the Sith spirit of Naga Saddow that was there then Luke built his Jedi Temple on that exact site (this is in Legends canon)
6:58 One of the heart-sinking lines i’ve ever heard in all of Star Wars. There’s so much weight and grief that carries me back all through the Clone Wars. It reminds me just how tragic Star Wars is.
The lesson was to let go of his attachments. Kanan's time came, and as much as it hurts, he has to accept it and move on. Last episode Ezra said "You never prepared me for this". This was Kanan's way of doing so.
It was Ezra's Force trial in a way.
This is a huge moment in the mythos of the force. And does a great job of separating the difference between the living force and the cosmic force.

This episode was emotional too. I don't care what all the other haters say about Rebels, this series was amazing.
I'm on marathon mode, watching this last arc all in one go so I know I'm late but imma just write down my thoughts
• Ahsoka lives! She just amazing, she fought 3 with Lords, one of them the most poweful lightsaber fighter and the Chosen one and the other.... Well, he is the most powerful being in the Galaxy but she just held him off and repelled him more that fought BUT STILL. AND fought 3 Inquisitors in the Spam of like 2h(?) Wow
Also, Ahsoka taught Erza one last lesson "Let go". Something that she had to realize too. She cant save her master but minutes ago she, without hesitation, was about to lay down her life to save Vader, she can't save Anakin. She stopped her defending stance, pushed Vader off, broke the floor to protect him form the upcoming explosion. Saceifacing herself for someone who is trying to kill her and that was about to do it when she got pulled out. I found it heartbreaking.
• The voices are from characters from the whole franchise. Someone listed them on the comments.
• They actually handled the time travel stuff quite well XD Frachises once they reach a certain point use time travel to solve stuff up and have more content to offer which messes up continuity or just becomes confusing but here I belive they made it simple yet mysterious ^-^

I can’t help notice. Ashoka stopping Darth Sidious coming through the portal was going to be in a clone wars arc. Also some of the art for the clone wars arc of the Sith temple under Coruscant that never got released ended up looking a lot like parts of Malachor. Also the Crystal Crisis Clone Wars arc clearly became that Death Star crystal arc in rebels and Stigeon Prime prison in rebels season one where they met the grand inquisitor was originally from the Maul arc that became the Son of Dathomir comic. Really sad they stopped Clone Wars when it just got soo good in the final seasons. It’s all in clone wars legacy and clone wars untold videos on Yt. Maybe they’ll still release them completed. One day...

I haven't seen anyone else comment this but; It is a scary thought that Palpatine was speaking through the same portal that they saw Kanan in. Imagine what would have happened if Ezra tried to pull Kanan out, maybe we would have pulled Palpatine in instead....
U got it! Bingo no Kanan, jus Sidious for Christmas. Thank God, Ezra listened to Ahsoka's wisdom. "Let go" was the lesson, like Bendu taught Kanan earlier in the season.
These last 2 episodes also gave me a chance to mourn Kanan, and I appreciated that!

While this is one of my favorite episodes of the show, and probably favorite scenes in all of Star Wars as a whole due to the amazing lore that it gives us...I also deeply hate it. Because thanks to this episode I had to see the death of Kanan AGAIN. His death was not meaningless though, as it gave us Ahsoka back. This episode is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish.
The shot of the Son putting his fist into his hand and bowing his head is one of my favourite shots of "Rebels".

This is such a great episode of rebels, it's always hard to see ezra not being able to save kanan. But seeing Ian McDiarmid the original actor for palps doing the voice again.

When you were asking about the sequels, you could hear voices from said sequels.
This episode is just great, with the music and that wonderful shot at the end.
Seeing Hera at the site of the temple resting her hand on the same shoulder Kanan's ghost did was heartbreaking.
The ending of that episode was soooo beautiful it got me in tears but I really love how mysterious the force works and how amazing was to see the Drawings of the Mortis gods moving but this was one of my favorites episodes
The last scene in the remains of the temple is one of the most memorable I have of Kanan -- and he’s not even in it! You see him through others’ eyes and words: Hera and her heartbreaking stare and grasp of her shoulder, Ezra reaching new depths of understanding, and the wolf full of wisdom and locking eyes in the distance. Epic.
I love the depictions of the Mortis gods. With the Daughter, peace becomes reverence
With the Son, aggression becomes submission
And with the Father, balance is maintained.
A good way to show how too much of one side or the other can lead to inaction.
A wonderful Rebels episode in so many ways and definitely one of my favourites.
Never noticed how when Ezra asks why things couldn’t be different that it is Sabine’s theme playing slowly in the background. Interesting
Sith Sorcery is always fascinating to watch since it’s not always explored. The ancient Sith made use of these magics to astounding effects that makes modern Force abilities pale in comparison. Mother Talzin was Sidious’s possibly only equal in Dark Side magic(not the same as Sith magic) and would have been a real thorn in the Grand Plan had she learned true Sith magic. Luckily this stuff doesn’t have many battle applications. Imagine using this in a fight over nature Force abilities. The Jedi Order would have died out centuries ago.
Filoni really made time travel, but made it super limiting, used it for his favorite OC and then dipped. What a king tbh
It would be interesting to tie this realm back into the end of the mandolorian. Ashoka could help him enter that realm. He could become Mandolore the Great and the Child become the Jedi grand master we all know.
Star Wars does have something to do with time and space. Like some prophecies has been written but haven't been acknowledged. Like the universe kept countless of useful secrets to unfold for hope or destruction. Like understanding some histories of what every one else has been through either goodness or horror from the past, occurring in the present but the future hasn't yet written just yet.
This episode is so fun because it shows the limits of what can be done with the Force, and serves as a throwback to its more mystical aspects. The idea of manipulating time made people really nervous when this first came out, but it was executed so well that it doesn't really create any problems with the greater continuity. Palpatine's Sith sorcery was neat, and getting to finally see Ahsoka's fate in her duel with Vader provided great payoff to all the fans who'd speculated on whether she'd survived. Also, that scene with the paintings closing the portal gives me chills; they really hit it spot on with the imagery and music there.
I'd recommend that, once you finish watching all of the available Star Wars content, you come back to this episode and listen to all the voices again. You'll pick up on a lot more than you would just from having seen the prequels, Clone Wars, and Rebels.

You hear Obi-Wan Kenobi from A New Hope, Kanan throughout the series, Ahsoka, young Obi-Wan, Qwai-gon, and Yoda both young and old.
Every voice you hear is a line from one of the Star Wars movies or shows that had been released up to that point. They have lines from the prequel trilogy, the original trilogy, the Force Awakens, Rouge One, Clone Wars, and Rebels. To me this World Between Worlds is the ultimate embodiment of the Cosmic Force. It binds all of time and space and lets you not only view events from throughout the galaxy and from any time but even change them.
It was heart breaking hearing Ahsoka say how both Kanan and Anakin were beyond the ability of their students to save them. For Ahsoka it has to be so hard to realize she can't save Anakin from the Dark Side. For Ezra he has to let go and say goodbye to Kanan. Saying goodbye is never an easy thing to do when someone you love passes away but its a key part of the grieving process. These last three episodes were one large goodbye to Kanan with the whole crew moving through their grief to say a final goodbye to Kanan Jarrus Jedi Knight.

Also for "not being a Jedi", Ahsoka truly acted like one by telling Ezra to let go and by not intervening to change the future with what she knew.
Even if you have the chance to change the future, some things are meant to happen, no matter how hard it can be. And yet we still actively shape our destiny.
The Force moves in mysterious ways yet is best understood as the natural order of things. Always balancing itself out.
this is one of those episodes were it was almost made to give star wars fans a little blast from the past with all the different voices also why it's good to watch star wars movies first
Yeah this came out during the sequels so there are voices from the movies. This was a special moment cause this was the first time we got voices from the movies in the anime. Once you get through the originals and sequels you'll have a better appreciation for the episode. It's kinda cool tho seeing it from your perspective and seeing if you'll be able to recall the voices as you go through the story.
I remember watching this episode the first time, it took me hours to process what all happened, especially Ahsokas return because I was NOT expecting it

When this aired, it aired in December of 2017. So it included the voices of Rogue One, Force Awakens, etc.
This is also a theory as to how Palpatine could “Save others from dying” like he tells Anakin in Ep3.
Ezra had the same statement and prerogative: to save Kanan.
Issue with the portal is it needs a light side user to open the portal and the dark side to close it. So Palpatine can’t enter it.
That’s why when he grabs Ezra with the Sith magic he says “Show me the way, Ezra, help me”.
So this could’ve been the method of how Palpatine could have saved those from dying like he promised Anakin.
This is such an awsome episode, you get to hear bits from rogue one, phantom menace, force awakens, clone wars and much more, loved all the connections.
Great episode reaction. Regarding to that time and space realm, I highly doubt that time manipulation will ever be a “thing”. I think that connection to the Mortis and Jedi is what makes Lothal unique and SPECIAL. Just my opinion.

The symbol above the portal that shows Kanan’s death is similar to a Sith symbol from the Old Republic in Legends. And it’s the same portal that the Emperor appears in. (th-cam.com/video/IRoh62wRgkc/w-d-xo.html&) So did Ezra really have an opportunity to save Kanan? Or was Sheev up to some chicanery?
My guess would be there is a door in every Jedi and Sith temple. Palpatine made the Jedi Temple on Coruscant his palace so he could explore its mysteries unobserved. I believe the Jedi Temple was built on top of an ancient Sith temple, so Palpatine can explore that too.
