I learned this way back as a young lad about women emotional triggers.
#1 - She feels...you are higher value than her. If the woman feels she's better than you, forget it. You're toast. Value does not mean money, car blah blah. It means she sees you got status, you have a certain trait and she believes she can BREAK YOU. So you're a challenge. That is why she is craving, lusting, needing your attention and validation.
#2 - She must feel...special. That means whatever attention, validation, time, whatever it is you give she feels she has...earned it. Most of all, she fears of losing the attention you give her. That is why you cannot be too available, predictable and...consistent. These 3 kills desire for you and kills attraction immediately or soon enough.
#3 - She wants to fix and change you. She thinks she's so special, different than all the other women that she has the power to lock you down. She will sleep with you when 1, 2 and 3 are in place. However, if you change to the man in her mind she wants you to be....it's over. Just because she says that's what she wants doesn't mean a damn thing. You have made a big mistake and have now become predictable, consistent and available. She will soon say "blah blah blah, I need to focus on myself, need time to myself, fix my life blah blah," which means she has found a new shiny toy.
An unpredictable man is very dangerous. Not implying "psycho" danger, but unequivocally controls his fate much better than others. It's dangerous in so many ways that I need recapitulate the obvious.

I STRONGLY disagree that needing more time to yourself has to mean anything beyond wanting time to do your own thing. We all need time to ourselves-some of us more than others.

As an experienced guy in his 30s, I will cosign on this content. Modern day women are constantly seeking validation in some shape or form. For some, it's daddy issues and for others abandonment issues. Among other countless reasons. Probably the 2 best tricks I learned with women, is having big balls and never try to fit in.
Contrary to popular believe, most women are looking for a man to lead and protect them. The sad reality, the majority of men fail in both categories. This is why you see chicks with A-holes/bad boys. Logically other men ask why. The reason is, he goes against society's norms. He isn't a yes man, he lives by his own set of rules. While I hate using movie characters, but a perfect example is Tony Montana/Scarface. While noone should emulate his lifestyle, but his ability to hold masculine frame/remain calm in the face danger and big set of nuts sets him apart from other men.
If you're a young guy, get into an MMA or boxing gym. It will not only teach you discipline and how to defend yourself, it will also help you stand strong in the face of danger.

39 year old here. Lived through a lot of fights, women, jobs, successes and failures, dozen or so broken bones, marriage, kids, parties and funerals, wars and poverty, drugs and gyms, army and college....

I'm a broke student for reference, and started from having no dates and through learning certain skills it has become relatively simple. Stop blaming others, that's part of the issue.

I had several relationships and several hookups, but things just changed over time. Second point is soooo spot on. This competition anxiety is so strong it's an irrational fear for a lot of women.
