I recently went to Mussoorie with my 2014 Swift with 5 adults with loaded trunk and handheld luggages. I could manage to climb those steep hills with traffic and without lagging a bit. I can only imagine the thrill of driving with 1.0 lt engine. 1.5 lt will be dream for me. I shared this perspective to assure my friends that 1.0 Turbo will be silky smooth.

Also factor in that ac would not have been used while climbing due to winters, it can be challenging if ac has to be used while climbing up

I recently bought a 1.0 tsi taigun manual. Few days back I took it to a hill station with 5 people and some luggage. Normal hills it had no problem climbing. But steep uphills, I had to shift to 1st gear. And also on such steep uphills if I had to stop in between and then start, I did feel the power lag and honestly it was frustrating. I had to rev the engine with half clutch to prevent the car from moving backwards. But otherwise it’s a brilliant car. And I own the highlline version and it doesn’t come with hill stop assist

It's 100% true, I own Kushaq and it has the same problem. Everyone usually goes with their friends or family with full loaded car and many time we are using the AS as well but at that time on the steeps its totally non performing asset. I'm driving car from last 20 years but on hills I'm not confident with this car I've cover the north east terrain with this car and I had a lot of issues while coming on hills. After 4000 rpm its AC also stop cooling the car.

You may have to take a course on driving it seems.

@@jupiteruniverse8683 Not 3rd gear, even from 1st gear if the engine rev goes below 1750 rpm, it will struggle to pull. Low end torque is not there for vw 1.0 tsi. But like I said, apart from that, it is a brilliant car to drive. I love my purchase and have no regrets so far. It is just that this one point is where vw 1 litre turbo lacks compared to other 1.5 litre NA engines.

  • @thewanderer3929

The rev limiter becomes a pain if you are stuck uphill. You cannot rev it till 6k rpm to pull it in slight offroad conditions where cars like venue and brezza easily pull off.

  • @rajatsingh-bg8rv

The initial lag is going to frustrate the driver when crawling in jam on an incline with 4 people and luggage, and it would be quite a challenge to reverse it from standstill on an incline without going downhill for a second due to initial lag.

I once took Brezza with 2 people inside from Dehradun to Mussorie via the steepest road and not this regular route. That road is one of the toughest hill roads with many blind corners and sharp high degree turns and though struggled finally Brezza managed to overcome with 3 to 4 attempts at few steep inclines.
Wonder whether Kushaq, Taigun or Nexon will be able to do better as was frustrated in Brezza which otherwise handles well in highways.
Brezza definitely did not give superior confidence at mountains.

There's actually something wrong with your car then.
My 1.2L NA Amaze had no issues on the steepest mountain of South India. There were 4 of us in the car and, we're not stupid enough to use the AC while climbing the hills. When the situation came in when the car had to be stopped mid-way on the slope, we had to use the hand brake to give the car enough RPM to boil up and get right back on climbing, but that you could say is related to the experience of the driver as many could do it without the need of a handbrake.

@@jupiteruniverse8683naturally aspirated engines don't have this issue which he mentioned in his comment. It is only a problem with the Turbo engines because of the turbo lag. In diesel engines, the lag is there but sheer power of the fuel doesn't make you sweat on the hills .

I have been previously using Polo 1.2 and Vento 1.5 TDI but recently bought Taigun 1.0 MT.
I am feeling that even overtaking on terrain at 2000rpm - 6th gear leads to close/risky overtakes on two lane roads.
Also I feel it is under powered compared to same 1.0 demo cars.
I have just done 1k odo.
Does the performance and mileage gets better over time ?

It's a very small turbo engine.. It is designed to perform between 2600 to 5500 rpm rev band.. So anything below 2600rpm will be poor & annoying due to Turbo Lag.. but it should be fun to drive in its powerband..

well count your lucky stars that you're atleast getting some what of a manageable mileage. My Amaze with the 1.2L NA Manual gives around 10.8km/L in City conditions. Hybrid cars are the best suited for city commutes second only to the diesel.
