    One of the best UV for Beginners examples I've experienced - this has helped me better understand so many unwrapping and texturing concepts that until now I've just been muddling through at best.

    To anyone that wants to split windows on blender 2.8:
    Put your cursor at the top right corner, adjacent to the hierarchy. Your cursor will turn into a plus. Drag it to the left, select the 3D viewport, which is right next to an icon that looks like a cursor trapped in a box, the select UV editor
    To anyone that wants to unwrap your model with blender 2.8:
    Select everything in edit mode -> Press U -> Select unwrap

    Someday, we will just talk to the computer like in Star Trek and say "Computer, I want to add a texture to this model". It will say "Working, rendering, complete" and you just look at it. But what happens when it says "I am tired, and my transistors are too hot. I need to turn off for a while". Then we need to learn all the steps in Blender again.

    This is really interesting, but much more about UV mapping than texture mapping. I know the two are often used interchangeably, but for texture mapping I was hoping to learn how to actually create the texture map with the object model in mind. This tutorial assumes someone already created it for me, which is typically not the case (in my experience, anyway)

    Another +1 for a remake - also love your videos especially this one I come back over and over again :).
    I really struggled jumping from 2.79 to 2.8 blender so many changes and Im only a casual user.
    Getting the texture to appear in the viewport now is quite different, For anyone else stuck at about the 7/8min mark,
    probably me again in 2 months....
    1. The cyles/blender Render options are gone from the top menu, I think you can ignore that bit @ 7:00min
    2. Those little icons across the top at 7:22 have all moved down the side and awesomely it auto closes, there's this tiny
    > arrow at the top of that area which press to open and the materials icon is now a red globe thing,
    2nd last one from the bottom
    3. The little button mentioned at 7:35 is now just "+ new" - assuming you need it.
    4. 7:55 "color" property is now called "Base Color"
    5. Little icon for selecting image is very similar just B/W
    6. This last bit caught me as after you do that no image on your model
    7. If your on default install 2.8 in either edit/object mode,
    there's 4 icons in top right corner of the viewport just above the xyz gimbal thing,
    they look like different shaded circles most likely the solid white is selected.
    If you change to either of the last two your texture will appear but with shadows/light.
    To change that select the arrow at the end of that group of 4, new window will open "Viewport Shading"
    change "Color" on the new window from "Material" to "Texture".
    Select the solid white circle and your textures there same as the video :).
    Thanks again for the videos.

      @robsav3052 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been playing around with this more now I've jumped to 2.90.1 the process above seems to work still although on step:
      1. cycles render is under render properties in the outliner - looks like a old fashioned TV to me :)
      5a. If you manually edit your UV map you'll notice the viewport preview goes blurry - under material properties directly under the image name is a field that will say "linear" adjust this to "closest" and it should re-sharpen your image in the preview pane.
      Again adding this for me as Im sure I'll be back in another few months trying to do this lol Thanks again :)

    Could you show us how to texture a cube to have a different image file on each face, and to rotate uvs on each face to align the images?

      Easy. Apply a different material to each face.

    How do I know which parts of the texture sheet to draw on when I'm creating the texture? Can I export a blank sheet with guidelines?

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you can just generate an empty texture, create your UVs and export that so you have an overlay that shows you where you model will rest :)

    I am having issues with the projection. I followed all the steps in the tutorial exactly and used the file given, but the projection is missing a top square (compared to yours) when in cube projection. When put into sphere projection and scaled to bounds, it looks completely different. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

    Hi, I was just wondering how it would work if you don't have a texture with rectangles... I noticed that when you unwrap it, for some reason the rectangles of the UV map are not perfect (why is this?) - is there a simple way to make them into nice rectangles and to make all the rectangles the same size? Without having to count rectangles on your texture? I hope my question is clear..

    Hi, thanks for your tutorial. It helped me a lot.
    But i have a question. The image textures are applied to uncolored 3D-objects. But is there a way to generate a texture out of an allready colored 3D-object? I have created a 3D-model of an racingcar in inventor 2017 and applied every Part his material and color.
    Thank you.

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s more of a question regarding Inventor than Blender (and I only know Blender) - you need to export the model with UV and image map in a format that Blender can understand :)

    • @fabiterz4961
      @fabiterz4961 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SurfacedStudio thanks for anwering me. Yeah, sinc the model is created in inventor i should ask them. But whats if i created a model in blender and added manually different parts with different colors or materials. Can blender create an image map fitting with the uv map for my objekt?

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can export the image texture and the UV map / islands so yon see how the texture maps over the model
