If you have a headache you may seek a physician. If you have a mental issue of any sort, you may seek a psychologist or perhaps a hypnotherapist. We all rely on other people and I think it is dangerous to create a sharp dichotomy between relying on others and relying on God. Afterall, Jesus points to our neighbors, he wants us to be a community, to be interdependent of one another.
Of course, there are bad hypnotherapists, as well as their are bad psychologists, physicians, and pastors. But the act of hypnosis is not an evil in itself, how can it be? It's the state of mind that you automatically enter before falling asleep, upon waking up - even often while reading a book, watching a movie or doing something that gives you this feeling of letting go of your worries and just relaxing your mind. That's what the state of hypnosis is. What we do while being in this state and how we treat others who are in that state - that is the discussion that we might have as Christians.
Hypnotherapy is - when peformormed correctly - a very gentle therapy. It is a way of relaxing the mind so that we can better take in a positive message. So being in a state of hypnosis while sitting in church will actually just make the message sink in a bit deeper. If the message speaks to you. If not, you will just reject it. I can not induct hypnosis upon an atheist and convince them that they will now seek Christ - unless that is a desire that they already have. But an atheist who is afraid of converting because they've learnt how silly and stupid Christian people are, might in fact benefit because they have the desire but are held back by fear and other defence mechanisms. A hypnotherapist might succeed in creating an atmosphere in which you allow yourself to open up to and get in touch with your true desires, so that you - during the session - acquire some experience with connecting to them. This knowledge can help you go in the direction that you really want to instead of the one that you are going because of fear of rejection from your social network.
As I said, of course this can be done in ways that aren't "Christian" but the action itself of helping a person to get in touch with themselves really does seem to me as a nice act of charity.

People think hypnosis is like what they see in the movies where someone is hypnotized to go kill someone or commit a crime or something of that nature. Hypnosis is actually just rewiring your subconscious mind to be healthy and to heal from past trauma

I've been doing hypnosis for 25 years and I just want to clarify a few things here. A hypnotist cannot make you do anything you don't want to do. Even with stage shows, you'll see a lot of people on stage asked to step down because they didn't want to participate in a certain suggestion. They are still in control and if I were to suggest something not akin to their wants, they'd just wake up. For instance, there was a conference of hypnotists doing a seminar. One guy was out into a deep trance for the demonstration. But in the midst of it, a fire alarm went off. Guess who shot up and was the first guy to exit the building? You are still in control.
Hypnosis is a natural state and we go through it all day long. Trance is as simple as driving and losing track of time, daydreaming, reading a book, watching a movie, being on the internet, playing video games, studying. You just zone out and go into a different 'reality'. But you aren't trapped in it and are still in control.
And as far as the suggestion part of hypnosis, we'll your mother was probably the best hypnotist you've ever met. Let me know if this sounds familiar. You were misbehaving as a kid and all mom had to say to you was '1...2........3..............' and you'd stop misbehaving immediately. That's all it is.
As far as the therapy of it, I help people lose weight, quit smoking, stop anxiety, pain, drugs, etc. I help people get control of themselves instead of suffering things that bind them. Consider it an exorcism of sorts. And I get that you might want to ask God to do that for you. But you still go to a doctor or a dentist or perhaps even a psychologist for things. We don't ask God to fix those things without still seeing a professional.
There is a lot of misunderstandings about hypnosis and what it really is. I hope I've cleared out some mystery for anyone reading..

This is helpful, I am a newer Christian, and I’ve dabbled in the occult. My husband has been interested in hypnosis for a while, he has been watching more videos about it, and he is getting good. He has put my daughter and her friend in hypnosis a couple times, and they do everything he suggests.
I was wondering if it is a type of witchcraft.....making people do “whatever “ you suggest, and sometimes they don’t remember what you said to them...not sure how I feel about that.
I definitely see how it can be good, I have anxiety and low confidence, my daughter has anger issues....but I was worried about hypnosis taking the place of the Holy Spirit, with these issues.
You are right though, we do seek professional help along with prayer, most of the time.

Ps. These guys used the words "quick fix" and "work around". Hypnosis isn't a quick fix or work around. It's a process that you have to work at. Not only does the hypnotist have to be good, you have to be good at being hypnotized. This isn't a quick fix by any means.

I have become more spiritual and connect to myself via hypnosis. I have been about to access the subconscious of my mind, which carries 95 percent over the 5 percent conscious to heal from physical and trauma. The power the mind is outstanding and I personally feel this information will prevent so many people from healing their spirt, mind and soul.
You are controlled by a hypnotist, you are guided to the root issue of the people to your can then heal.
With all respect I believe more research should be carried out before shutting down something I have found is life transforming.
When you drive and you don't know how you got there, that's a hypnosis state so your mind naturally goes there as God intended.
This is sent with good intention and to create awareness of the power of your subconscious mind.

I have 25 years experience in Pentecostal churches, a Masters of Divinity, and certifications in hypnotherapy. Pentecostal preachers and evangelists are some of the best hypnotists I’ve ever seen.

I do not think it is against christianity. Pastors do the same thing although they are working through God they are still a person with suggestions from THEIR perception of what the Bible says. Secondly the person doing hypnosis is NOT luring you in. Many hypnotist want you to lure yourself to your inner self. For example, there is a video that wants you to say tons of positive things to yourself while concentrating and relaxing. Many times we have so much going on that we do not allow ourselves to just focus on what's going on deep within. If I say " I am strong" " I am positive " " I will be successful " etc is NOT relinquishing ourselves to another being. You aren't giving your mind to someone else. Hypnotist focus on finding solutions by assisting us with our own control. Alot of what these preachers are saying is coming from a very naive perspective. You shouldn't speak if you do not know the facts. These comments I'd expect from an amateur who was just guessing here and there. I believe in God and it is not about NOT WANTING TO WAIT. I give myself plenty of time. This is something that helps especially for people like me..who has many mental health issues and racing thoughts..and many other issues that make it hard to give myself the attention I need in order face these issues.

Hypnosis allows the client to go back to trauma and reframe it so that they do not carry that pain with them any more. Counselling keeps the critical part of our brain "awake" which can interfere with the memories in our subconscious. Deliverence wasn't addressed. you cant have someone ungodly putting something into us....
But Addiction is destructive & crippling for people, making them desperate. Even after seeking help from the Lord for it it can remain.

A deliverance ministry should be sought. That allows the truth of it to be dealt with.

Ok guys seriously, do some more research on hypnosis. Hypnosis only does what you do all the time, forming new neural patterns from your experiences. Instead of forming them in your everyday life, you form them form direct suggestions from someone. As I recalled, you're supposed to be transformed by the renewing of your mind aren't you? Well what is Christian counseling for? You don't just read the bible, you also talk to be people and their counsel renews your mind. Well how is this any different? If you have a pattern in your brain that tells you to be addicted to cigarettes, and you don't want to get lung cancer, then how is using hypnosis to quit smoking not a form of mind renewal? It's heling you to move away from addiction an towards better health, which is something that god's word says you should do, correct? Hypnosis is not spiritual, it's biological. And in regards to the other person being in control, don't let someone who you don't trust hypnotize you. You're not surrendering your will to them permanently, you're just entering in a stat to were accelerated and unfiltered learning occurs, and your brain takes in any and all information without filtering it. Do don't give me the Galations garbage about self control being the fruit of the spirit. You are twisting the verse out of it's original context. Just don't be stupid and see an ethical hypnotist who won't manipulate you. And to clarify, I am a follower of Jesus and an amateur hypnotist. And an exorcist / deliverance minister as well. And a preacher and a counselor who had discipled people using the scriptures and presented them in sermons. So I think I ought to be pretty well qualified to speak on the matter.

Relying on a source outside of God is making that our God. However, our own words have power. Use the Scripture to change our mind about food or about fear or whatever we are seeing a hypnotist for. The sin is not in going to the hypnotist, the sin is when we are turning to another source other than God. The Lord longs to be gracious to you, He rises to show you compassion. Is. 30:18 ... He can't help us if we turn away to other sources. If we turn to Him he will provide. None of those things mentioned in scripture pertains to clinical Hypnotherapy. Just like none pertains to taking antidepressants (that could cause horrible side effects.) We are also not supposed to sit around and expect God to take our wellness journey for us. He expects us to be wise, take responsibility for our health. And have faith that he'll take care of the what we can not. His way may be the through the doctor who learned about neuro science who created a pill to ellivate suffering. Or through the Hypnotherapist who helps you kick that porn addiction or who helps you release resentments towards someone. There is a lot that can be done for Gods glory with hyonotherapy. It all depends on intention.

Ultimately, they mostly are correct, but sometimes they get a little too religious sounding.
Bottom line is, it is much BETTER to get so good at faith, prayer, taking Authority through Christ, biblical meditation that you can change yourself with Gods help.
Even if maybe hypnosis isn't demonic, it's not the best way to make changes. Mastering prayer and biblical principles is MUCH better than hypnosis, if you go about it the right way

My whole post was based around the vid title concerning "hypnotized"...there is nothing that hypnotized can give you that you can not receive, and more, from the Spirit itself.

I hypnotized a woman once. She turned white and extremely cold. I told her she would feel refreshed when she wakes up right after I clapped once. It did not last long because I was terrified for her life. She had no memory of what happened, but just commented that she felt great. Her coloring came back to normal right away. We need to stay away from this dangerous behavior. I didn't know that Jesus loved us and paid for our sins in full. I did know that something was wrong. Man's attempts at playing power games like hypnosis and wizard games are awful.
