Best thing's ive add on my viper is a hazmore net seat which makes you sit up higher in the stand which makes shooting a bow while sitting way easier and I added there support straps on both sides of the stand and once you pull them tight you don't have to worry about bumping the top and it falling down plus makes the stand super stable
Hey Mike! Thanks for checking out my channel! A lot of guys comment about that Hazmore seat. Seems to be a go-to mod for the vipers. Thanks for the input and best of luck this season 👍🏻
This is a awesome comparison between the two stands! Thanks for the info, I hope to get out some this year but we just had a little girl 3 weeks ago so not getting much sleep lol!
Hey thanks Norman! Appreciate the feedback! I’ve got complete demo videos of both and an unboxing video of the Viper Pro if you want more info. Best of luck with your Summit and with your your season 👍🏻
I’d pay more for an American made climber if someone replicated the geometry and construction of a Summit without adding weight. As for which Summit, for the little smaller than average guy like myself (5’9”) hunting larger than average parcels I can’t recommend the Mini Viper enough. Not only does it carry better, it’s also quieter carrying through the woods because you have 4” less stand hanging down to get popped with small saplings. Speaking of carrying, no idea why Summit doesn’t sell a hip belt specifically designed for their stands, because getting the load off your shoulders is key. We use the wide Molle kidney belts for the Viper but the Mini Viper works better with a smaller hip belt like the one Lone Wolf Custom Gear sells. One of the best things Summit has come up with is their new and improved front storage bag. The old one was flimsy but the newer one is sturdier and big enough that you don’t need a pack, at least if you don’t film. Keeps movements hidden and to a minimum with your water bottle, snacks, phone, calls, etc all right where they need to be. As for the short front bar pad, for now I add a pad off one of my other Vipers. Yeah, you’d think Summit would include enough padding to cover the front bar like the older Summit Vipers made here in the states.
Hey David, thanks so much for your detailed response and input. It’s great to hear this kind of analysis! I’m always up for improving what I’m doing. I’ve been wanting to check the Viper Mini out for a while. Maybe I’ll get a chance sometime soon. Best of luck this season👍🏻
Is the general consensus that If you have the money the Pro SD is worth the extra $150-$160? For the improvements and added flexibility of attachments? Looking for a climber for my 16 year old and was between both of these. I don’t mind spending the extra but was looking for someone that had experience with the old version (a very solid stand) and the new version.
Hey Brad, thanks for checking out my channel! Please hook me up and hit subscribe if you could. I have a ton of Sumkit-related content on my channel, including a complete review and demo of both stands. Here is my Viper SD review: th-cam.com/video/tKVEkgdB5xE/w-d-xo.html I also have other videos such as “Summit Viper SD Hunting Setup” which is my typical method of climbing and getting setup with the original Viper SD. You can also check out unboxing videos and a complete review of the Viper Pro SD. Please let me know if you have any questions!
What I would honestly love to see is a method to be able to tighten bottom platform cables as you are climbing, similar to being able to bring top platform cables in, was hoping the new quickdraw system would be able to answer that, aside from heavily canting bottom platform, can't tell you how many times you get limited on height because the tree got skinnier on the way up. Looks like new quickdraw system has additional safety mechanism making adjusting cable length mid climb slightly more difficult.
Hey JB thanks for the feedback! You are 100% right in that the trees get narrower and that can be a challenge. I usually try to angle my climber up slightly to compensate. That QuickDraw pro system is pretty cool if you are leaving your stand in the woods overnight in that you can lock it up. Best of luck this season 👍🏻
Summit has stayed away from a leveling mechanism, undoubtedly for safety and liability, but it makes sense because the cables and geometry of the Summit allow for more natural leveling than other stands already. You might try a step aider of some sort so you can hang both sections as high as possible before you start the climb.
The Equalizer Climbing tree stand easily adjusts on the fly and has been out for years. I can't believe other companies don't have a way to level on your way up the tree.
Wife ordered me a Pro for Christmas. I should get a few days using it before the season ends in Tennessee... Have you done any modification or considered doing a carry system like the molle backpack straps and waist belt ?
Hey Brad, that’s awesome!!! I hope she got the 20% off sale that’s going on through today!!! You’re going to love it! I haven’t done any mods yet. Just added the FasTrack accessories, for now. I’m good with the standard backpack straps. Best of luck this season👍🏻
Yup she got the Sale..she was waiting on the Pro to come back In stock.. Got the notification yesterday of the sale and it being back in stock and she jumped on it
You know we need a cupholder for the fasttrack system... a holder big enough to hold the morning coffee...I'd purchase that...Also a phone mount that had a external phone power bank for camera charging or phone charging
I absolutely love my summit viper. I got the summit bag that straps on the front and gives me a cup holder and a good amount of storage. I need to order a phone holder and a gun rack for mine. I was just out hunting yesterday and I had my phone in my lap and I felt like my safety harness wasn’t allowing my wallet to seat all the way in my back pocket so like an idiot I stand up to push my wallet in my pocket and I drop my phone and look down for where my phone landed and dropped my wallet right next to it. Luckily it happened around noon otherwise I would have left it sitting there for a little bit. It was also a super super windy day 40mph winds and I’m up in a tree stand like it’s a carnival ride. I’m not sure if I’m dumb or really dedicated and determined, I will get back to you on that lol
is there a reason that rifgle holder is that color lol? maybe so you can still see it early morning and night? why not bright on top and dark on bottom
Hey B&M Riding! Thanks for checking out my channel! The only FasTrack accessory you can use with the Viper SD (or any other climber) is the ultimate hook. It comes with a bendable cable to attach it if you don’t have the FasTrack system on the PRO SD.
Hey Brian, thanks for checking out my channel! I actually did a video on that as well. Check it out when you have a moment th-cam.com/video/MnUF7ZUZCkw/w-d-xo.html

20 and 22 pounds? I swear my climber is 50+ and I think its a viper sd. Maybe it's steal? It is my brother's but he doesn't hunt anymore and let me use it so I'm not entirely sure. If those are really that lightweight maybe I need a new climber because it's a pain to carry and I generally hunt 700 yards to a couple miles in the woods.
Hey Andrew! Yeah sounds like you might have the Steel. Check out the Mini Viper SD. It’s only 18 pounds. I did a review on it if you’d like to check it out.
I have three climbers. The 11lb X Stand, a 17lb Treewalker, and a 21lb Summit Viper SD. I bought them all for different reasons and each is a tool. Period. The new locking mechanism isn’t needed. Just a gimmick to sell more stands. Ive had four Summits and use an SD Viper now and have never needed to “pin lock” the cable in place. It’s not coming out with the old Viper SD design. The accessory rail gadgets are just going to snag more stuff in the woods. Summits can be locked to the tree with a lightweight 1/4” cable and padlock. Nest them together around the tree and lock it through the metal around the tree. The Mini Viper SD saves some weight/size. I added an Ol’ Man net seat, a third hand archery bow holder, and a Doyle Auto gear hoist. Great climber. Not trying to sound negative here. I love my Viper. Summit has to “stay fresh” as they haven’t had much innovation for many years as the SD foam was about 8 years ago. If you are looking for a great climber, stay with a regular aluminum Viper SD or mini SD. Save the money. You’ll need it for other gear real quick. My $0.02 nobody asked for.
Hey thanks for the input! I recently got a mini viper (and did a video on it) and I really like the size, weight and all of the standard features (comfort, quality, etc) you’d come to expect from Summit.
