She made me cry...I am so very happy for her and I so very proud of her taking her life into her own hands and making the life she wants to live. I so love her story and I hope that I can one day meet Vanessa!! Thank You BOB for bringing her story to life!
This is so perfect! You have inspired me! My husband is a travel nurse, and we have 2 RVs, but he loves taking his van instead so he can stealth park right in the hospital's parking lot and decks. Don't tell anyone, but he even works at one hospital where he backs right up to a concrete wall with an electric outlet! There he can plug in his ac or heater, a tv and charging station. He is a veteran nurse with 25 years experience, and loves his job. And he makes so much more money than I do, even tho we both have Associate Degrees. Worked our way thru college many years ago, but his degree has paid 3x the amount I can make. So I am going back to school and getting a LPN so I can quit working as a paralegal and travel nurse with him for a few years till we retire.
I love her name, Van-essa! That recliner is a fabulous solution to a tough problem - how to make the van “homey” while providing a comfortable place to sit (watching movies at night) and to sleep. Super practical approach to the essentials!
This video was awesome. I am man with a disability and have been wanting to make this move and seeing her build with the recliner has opened my eyes to the possibilities.
I'm a 19 year old watching this, not because I plan on living in a van anytime soon, but I can bet you this is exactly how I will live after I retire. On the road, with no worries at all.
I like this lady and her no build van. This is giving me ideas because I am about her age and I know I will never have the skill or patience to do a fancy van build like I see all the young people doing. But she's making it work with a recliner and things you can get at Walmart. I love it!
I just came back from a over 25 day road trip. Not knowing from one state to the other what the weather was going to be I brought two different coats. To store them I put them in pillow case and tied the ends. They made excellent pillow to prop up with at night to watch a video. They tucked neaty between my cot and the sliding door of my van. Got the idea off of one of Bob Wells videos.
I've put extra blankets in pillow covers, which worked out well. I think these no-build vans are interesting, as it makes the van life seem more accessible. 👍🏼
@Rebecca Conn I used to ask for ice to chew on when I was out somewhere with friends but it always came out as Can I get a glass of 'ass' instead of Ice. Also any oi words just come out as 'oh', lol! And everything was Coke...
I can relate to her neck problem. I'm not in a van, but I have to sleep with a bunch of pillows that sort of mimic how you would be positioned on a recliner. Hope you continue to feel good and keep your free lifestyle.
Perfect timing! I'm getting closer to doing a nomadic trial run & always tho't I'd miss my recliner but now ... voila! Vanessa is da' bomb & I love her "no build" home ... AWESOME!!!
I love these interviews that Bob does...everybody has a story. This is a wonderful lady, who set up her rig just right. The only thing I would probably add is installation and a travel refrig (she would have plenty of solar to run it) but she doesn't seem to need those. That's what I would get is an empty van that I would set up, pretty much like hers. God bless her. Smart lady.
@Martine I have a refrigerator now. I don't miss buying ice but I miss the big cooler. I don't cook as much now, nor eat as much either so I'm ok. I bought a small Alpicool and I have to watch the size of everything I buy. I'm not complaining though!
I loved Vanessa’s video so much, especially seeing how a woman by herself can have a happy life through careful preparation and thinking of how to do things efficiently and not needing tons of stuff as so many of us think we need. You have inspired me Vanessa and I wish you happy travels ahead!
So do I! Like her, I sleep in a recliner. I also have other problems due to cancer. In remission. But I am determined to try this. My motto... Don't ever tell me I can't do something. It makes me more determined than ever!
put some clamps or hooks on the tarp and clip onto the rack on top hang over the double doors with clamps and enclose area to work off the back of the van. can have the tubes of water or bags getting hot and a shower in the private setting in the back of van with shower curtains. works well.
I love her no build build. Right now in my apartment I sleep in my recliner and I would love to do what she's doing that looks like the most comfortable recliner I've ever seen
I found this video while searching for people that put a recliner in their Van instead of an actual bed. (Searched for a friend). I think minimalism of "stuff" and the comfort you need is the way to go. You have people to visit and time to yourself when you need it. My friend will like seeing this video. Thank you.

Vanessa, I am working to get a van soon (I hope), and have been concerned about being able to keep my “Lazy Girl” recliner Dad bought me years ago. Even my cat likes it to curl up in. Thanks for your example and enthusiasm for the independent lifestyle you have - a true inspiration. I Really love love how neat everything is! The idea of those storage drawer chests simplifies everything, u DON'T have to build Anything! Thinking about actually purchasing the tiny yellow old school bus I saw, and fixing it up! Think I'd opt for a porta potty, real fridge, add an outdoor shower plus gym memberships! She certainly makes this doable. And Santan Solar 'Is' to remember! Thanks So much! LOVING the oversized RECLINER, a Must! 👍 ♥️
Van, I love the idea of storage pillows - comfort and a storage unit! You could store towels, washclothes, cleaning cloths. It would be a great way to keep hooded sweatshirts, then if the temperature drops, you can zip it open and put on the hoodie sweatshirt . Safe travels to Van and Blessings to Bob!
I just bought my minivan this weekend. I'm not ready to full time it. But small adventures are appealing. Looking at Vanessa helps me to remember to keep it simple!

You're awesome Vanessa! I really admire your ingenuity in coming up with your no-build build. I'm a 71 yr old Hoosier and my wife and I do pickup truck (with a cap) with a no-build build also. We love the simplicity. Your setup though is much more comfy. Great interview Bob and Venessa.
Thank you Larry! Tell your wife hi for me!
So great - the giant comfy chair! She's an inspiration.
Thank you! ❤
I have seen your van before Vannesa and you have lovely home. Happy for you😊
Thank you Paula! ❤
My admiration and respect for Vanessa.
I really love her attitude . I think I agree one hundred per cent on her living.
I'm very happy with a very simple life. Thanks for watching!
... And this drawer is for my Junk Food. HaHaHa. Spunk a dunk.
What an inspirational person Vanessa is! Thank you Bob. Wonderful video. As usual.
Thank you for watching!
The recliner could be opened in the back for lots of storage inside. If careful, it could be used as a hidden compartment.
I don't understand.
@@stevepowsinger733 The inside of furniture is hollow, so it has a lot of room for storage.
@@secondact7151 good hiding spots in the chair.
But wouldn't that mess up the material
@@kenyettaready nobody is looking at the back lol.
I just bought my minivan this weekend. I'm not ready to full time it. But small adventures are appealing. Looking at Vanessa helps me to remember to keep it simple!
Simple is the way to go because if you're like me, you'll keep seeing changes to make it better for you. And you can do it yourself pretty much. Thank you for watching!
