I have this washing machine and I love it! The agitator has never been used as I have huge loads.I have both queen and king size comforters and they come out clean and perfect every time.

Get the 5.2 size, It has no problems handling large comforters. Its the best washer I have ever owned. The results are spectacular. You can customize it to wash just about anything to the way you like it. NIght and day difference Agitation is robust with the extra room.
The best agitators are dual action like the ones on the lower end whirlpools. They actually turn clothes over. That’s the one thing that turned me away from the higher end whirlpools. These one piece agitators are basically giant impellers. And yes I know on this one it can be removed but on lots of them you can’t.
Yes they should make real dual action agitators for their higher end HE washers instead of having these fake dual action agitators. This is why I prefer the modern belt drive whirlpool washers because they have the classic direct drive dual action agitators.
Even if I set it to "deep fill," it only fills halfway at most. Also, it starts agitating before there is much water in it which is a waste. It adds a little water in spaced increments. Takes forever for the clothes to get saturated. I'd rather have an old-fashioned machine that fills deeply first and then agitates more aggressively. Whoever designs these machines is overthinking this by making something simple that actually works into something complex that may work in theory, but not in real life. I miss my old Speed Queen.
I bought one of these at home depot. Just before delivery i watched this video and several others and was like oh hell no. I went to home depot and cancelled it before they came. I re purchased the same GE agitator water control washer i got 8 yrs ago. It buries the clothes in the water and the agitator is much more aggressive. It has a delicate option as well for clothes. The GE 4.2 ot 4.5 cb ft are the only ones closest to the old fashioned washers.

My Maytag is the same thing basically, hate it hate it hate it...always have to throw stuff in wet to get enough water and it can't handle a huge load of laundry, so it's smaller loads and always have to wet things in order to get a little extra water
I’m returning mine on Monday they’re coming for it. I couldn’t get it to work at all. It was just spinning in the water was not filling up. It was running somewhere else.
For something this bulky, you should remove the agitator and then manually fill the washer FULL with water. This model tries to skimp on water to "save the environment" at the cost of cleaning your clothes well. I bought one of these last year and I HATE IT. But, as long as you bypass the water and always fill it up on DEEP WATER, it does ok. I recommend you DO NOT BUY!
I have one and like it. I took the agitator out to wash a huge load but the items are still a little wet. I should have probably left the agitator in. The directions it comes with are useless.
Yeah a front loader is definitely better for this kind of load. If you want an old school type top loader you have to do research. The only decent top loaders that Whirlpool makes IMO are the Amana NTW4516FW, Maytag commercial MVWP585/86, Whirlpool WTW4816FW and Whirlpool commercial non-vended CAE2795FQ. You also have the Speed Queen TC5. Those machines still have traditional agitators and wash more like the old school washers did, especially the Speed Queen.
I bought it 2 day ago at Home Depot and try to return it, but they said it’s not returnable. It’s replaceable if it’s not working good but it’s working it just sucks.
Somewhere I read the idea behind these washers is that the clothes are supposed to rub against each other to clean. I don't think that is the best way. Besides it's supposed to save. My old washer took a half hour to wash. This one took up to 1 1/2 hrs.
Yep that's how they wash, but traditional washers still have better wash action. I think this washer is decent, but I wish I still had my old Maytag Atlantis.

If you put a comforter in there, take the agitator out. Yes, it will get clean. People used to wash clothes on a rock and a river bed. Ive washed a king comforter in washers smaller than that.. im positive this washer is fine its the people im questioning.
None of them wash comforters well I've found I've owned both, only one that did was an old 90s top loader that actually filled with a good amount of water

If you have to submerge it by hand, the washer isn't doing its job. Today's top loaders with an inverter are a joke. Whirlpool's agitator or no agitator washer is a bigger joke. The corkscrew shouldn't go back and forth. Get a GE front loader if you really want clean clothes or a clean comforter. SMH
You're absolutely right. I sell plenty of appliances and one thing I've realized is that modern front loaders have been through "trial by fire" and are so much better for it, while modern top loaders are literally all "MVPs" - minimum viable products. Because most americans are surprisingly stubborn and ignorant and have sworn off ever buying a front loader because their great aunt's friend's neice bought one in 2003 and kept it in an unfinished basement and went on vacation for 6 months and came back and it smelled funky inside. These people will buy *literally* anything that loads from the top and not care at all whether it actually works to clean clothes. lmao

Even with the agitator removed washer pos. Seems like the younger generation who is designing things in this world doesn't have a clue. Same with the new stoves. They put the small burners in the back so you have to reach over your big pots to stir the little ones in the back. It's ridiculous.
The wash action on these machines sucks! I guess they figured the ppl buying these machines would be sitting behind a desk all day, and wouldn’t be washing ‘work’ clothes with ground in dirt and such. My sister bought a Cabrio set. I wanted to try it out to see how it did with my work clothes. I wasn’t impressed. I took the wet load home, and ran em in my Maytag Dependable care machine with the dual action agitator, and the water was dark, like the load hadn’t been previously washed. After the Maytag dies, if it ever does, I will buy the Speed Queen Classic clean TR5.
I would recommend a Speed Queen, but they are very expensive. The next best washer on the market is the Whirlpool belt drive washer. They are labeled as whirlpool, Amana, Roper, etc. They all have dual action agitators that will clean clothes better than most HE washers and they use a good amount of water too.
l'm already lost. Why would you put detergent into a dry empty washer before adding a large load like that? And why such a teensy little amount? Makes no sense.
Why would you leave the lid for the detergent in the washer? This is the fastest this machine will agitate. I made the mistake of buying one and I regret it. With comforters like this, I take it to the laundromat and wash in a front loader. This machine is pretty sad. p.s the downy ball doesn't always work, you should manually add fabric softener
Sometimes I throw it in there so I don't have to get my hands wet and soapy while rinsing it off (most of the time) and the downy ball works fine. Everytime I use it, most of the fabric softener is empty.

Unless you’re getting a commercial Maytag top loader, or the Alana with a dual action, it’s definitely handy. But if I could do it over again, it would be dual action Amana or Maytag, or an LG Top Loader.
I personally have the 2-1. It’s a decent washer overall. I don’t necessarily understand all the hate. The scary thing is it actually seems like it outcleans the old direct drive Kenmore that it replaced. The Kenmore was a 2012-ish and was a problem child since day one. My grandmother had a 2001 Kenmore Elite Direct-Drive that was absolutely amazing, and to this day I don’t think anything will outclean that particular model.
That “dual action” style agitator needs to turn in one direction only-to pull the load down. Instead the agiator just pushes the load back up again. It’s fighting against itself. Poor design.
Next time, try folding the comforter in half and then fold both halves toward it like a burrito. Now, you can position it around the impeller or agitator and get a better wash action. There should be no need to wash again because He washers move detergent & water sufficiently through the load. I think some brands of washers don't care about rollover and I honstly don't see the point of roolover plus the water is dirty so the blanket did get clean but you can tell me I'm wrong this is my opinion

Yeah, obviously that will extract loose dirt and debris, but cleaning requires friction. I.E. rollover, which causes the item(s) to rub together to clean. When you wash your hands, do you just hold your hands under the faucet? No, you rub them together - especially if they're more heavily soiled. This washer does an incredibly poor job in this video of creating any real cleaning action, beyond just being in water.
Just by the comment on this video alone I can see how bad it is lol. I wish whirlpool reused their direct drive dual action agitator as the agitator for these machines. They did that with their maytag commercial washers (they use the kenmore dual action agitator).

It won't let me fill the tub up manually and without the agitator, the comforter wouldn't move a single bit

You're gonna need a front loader or an HE top loader that's capable of some intense action (for example, LG) for that comforter.

The manual says that you are supposed to remove the agitator when you wash bulky items
And sometimes you should've listen to it. Without the agitator, the comforter wouldn't move. I've tried it before and I don't recommend it.
My whirlpools different but my problem is in the spinning because the machine shake a lot and loud. I try different setting…
