Whirlpool 2 in 1 (WTW5057LW, WTW5057L) removable agitator washer demo

  • EDIT June '22: I'd go with 3 out of 5 stars. I'm finding I have to use "deep water" too often. Reading over the comments added since I posted this, I think people make a lot of valid points. I personally still find the agitator helps, but only with deep water enabled. People also mention that I loaded the clothes wrong. You are supposed to clump them, not layer them. Who reads instructions anyway?
4 out of 5 stars. A quick demo of the new 2 in 1 removable agitator Whirlpool washer WTW5057L. This is not an official "he" (High Efficiency) machine as rated by EnergyStar, however, it has many "he" concepts. My apologies for mentioning "he" too many times in the video.
    Likes:
    - the optional agitator
    - paddles that actually agitate and are more than nubs
    - deep water option
    - right-sized for most people, not a huge machine
    Dislikes:
    - No countdown timer or decent feedback as to cycle progress
    - The sounds can be unpleasant for some people. All washers make noise though.
    - You have to download the cycle guide to understand your choices, they didn't include them in the user manual. www.whirlpool....

I have this machine and really like it. At first I thought it wasn't filling properly, and found this video to verify it was working as it should. I bought the machine specifically for the removable agitator so I could wash my quilts, and it does the job. For these larger items, I add the extra rinse and deep water options. (Pet hair)
The machine IS noisy and seems to shake while spinning. Do not make the same mistake I did at first, and overfilled the washer with a ton of clothes...just testing the waters.

I'm considering this machine for similar reasons: Pet Hair and the ability to wash large items less frequently than small things (best of both worlds) but I'm getting so many mixed reviews! Do you still like yours? Have you tried the little floating net things you add into the washer that helps scoop pet hair off the top? I'm wondering if they would work on the deep water setting

I just bought this unit and did my first load using 2 each Gain "he" pods on the heavy duty cycle with the agitator in. My laundry filled half the basket. This load took somewhere between an hour to 90 minutes to complete with the extra rinse. The machine is indeed louder than my old GE agitator type but not nearly as loud as some have complained about. As for washing, the impeller and the agitator both work well on this cycle. The washer will wash for several minutes before it starts to turn the laundry over so don't panic if you see dry laundry sitting on top in the beginning minutes. I assure you every bit of my load turned and washed multiple times. My clothes came out fresh, clean, cold, and almost dry. This will be interesting because it does take longer to wash than my old machine for the same size load but my clothes should dry in half the time from where it's spin cycle is so much better. I'll keep you updated.

So I’ve had mine for 5 months now, and I really like it (agree with basically everything in your review), but my heart is still with a Speed Queen TC5 (old fashioned make and functions) and I’m having one delivered Thursday.
    Removable Agitator is:
    Pros:
    1) Good wash action with lower loads, but the more you fill it, the further they get from the bottom impeller, and less they get agitated.
    2) Lots of setting options
    Cons:
    1) Noisy (but I don’t mind that)
    2) Little balance funky on super small loads
    3) Not much agitation from the agitator
So anywho… my husband works in a mine, and we simply just need a basically commercial machine, residentially…. The SQ TC5 is that.

My over 20 year old Maytag washer finally broke - and it was loads of laundry day so I rushed out and purchased Whirlpool 2 in 1 WTW5057LW (never researched) what was important to me was price and the product name - First wash was loud, constantly balancing the clothes in basket clicking and clacking, clicking and clacking, I was unable to select the level of water to use (two choices), lint on clothes after the wash cycle completed, it took longer for this wash to be completed probably with all the clothes balancing it was doing and I had a small load of clothes. My Maytag washed and rinse took less time and so much more quieter with no lint - just didn't have the money to purchase another Maytag washer - This whirlpool 2 in 1 looked good but I'm not happy with it.

Bought this exact model about 2 years ago. It's the only major appliance I"ve ever regretted buying. Bought it because of the removable agitator but don"t find that feature particularly useful as it really does not move things in the water as it needs to. I use the "deep water" mode for most everything!

The only useful functions of the "agitator" are to 1) stop the user from placing clothes across the impeller during loading and 2) help avoid items from moving and getting stuck atop it during the course of the washing process.

😫 My washer of 16 years broke and my husband and researched a lot of washers from lowes and home depot. Unfortunately we bought this same washer that's in the video. After owning it a few months I can honestly say it's the worst designed washer EVER. Why it spins around dry "balancing" the dirty clothes is beyond me. It seems like it's straining. The washer should fill up with water, agitate it and then drain. And the agitator doesn't work properly either. It never pulls the clothes down into the center of the drum. The noise from every cycle is LOUD. I'm very disappointed in this washer and WHIRLPOOL. Great video tho. I wish I would have seen it before I bought this piece of junk.

I just got this machine delivered today. It's so noisy compared to my old front loader. At the start of the load when the lid locks, i thought something broke off inside cuz it "snaps" so loud. LOL. First 2 loads I did seem to have turned out ok, but then did a load of darks and all my husbands work pants came out with white marks (detergent?). Not sure if it's because there wasn't enough water or what. I'm re-doing the load without any soap and it better be good or i'm going to be mad. I think i'll just start doing the deep water on every load. I'm pretty scared after reading all these comments. Totally having buyer's remorse.

Using the impeller feature is for lightweight clothes, the agitator is for heavy clothes like JEANS, towels, etc. The agitator is much more aggressive. This model give you the choice of actually having two machines in one.

    • @rhyta5042

This agitator is not a full size one so it is less active than the old school ones. Still better than the impeller but not by much. I don't understand why it doesn't fill up at the beginning and then begin agitating instead of agitate, fill water, agitate, fill water for more than a half hour. Driving me nuts.

Thank you very much for the review after seeing this Washer I can now cross it off the list. I really don’t get how whirlpool puts out such weak agitation washers. I guess coming from vintage washers that have powerful agitation it takes a bit to get used to seeing this wash action.

there are only three top load machines (GE/Hotpoint, Speed Queen, and Maytag Commercial for the home (Whirlpool) that fill to the top and agitate like old school washers that we all grew up with and remember. I have the Maytag Commercial (available at Loew's) . Wash cycle takes 29 minutes and clothes are fresh and clean and agitator does not tear up or wear out clothes at all...uses more water but that is what I want and willing to pay the slight difference it makes in my water bill. Had this machine for 3 years and matching dryer never an issue, slightly noisy but so what it's in the laundry room. Why people don.t research and care about these small but important things is beyond me

(Comment updated after a few weeks of usage) --The spin cycle will do this with only a few clothes - wobble and be awful. I found out and confirmed after a few weeks of usage, the washer needs to be at least 1/2 full to 2/3 full of clothing. That is what is expected design-wise. Then the spin cycle is much better. Still not totally quiet and still, but very acceptable - I don't have a problem with it at all. Make sure the machine is very well balanced (front / side method like in the machine instruction). Quality of wash very good - (I've been using the agitator).

Since it broke mid-wash, there was still a good bit of water left inside even after we emptied it with a cup and bucket. The technician needed another technician to move it because it was so heavy, This was going to cost an additional $99. Whirlpool denied the request to pay the extra $99. The clothes do not turn over at all, with or without the agitator. I had clothes that were still dry through the whole wash cycle. I opened the top and pushed them down. I can't watch every load. I don't trust that my kids could even use this machine successfully. Gonna try different types of loads. I hope I find one that works cause this was a lot of money wasted otherwise.

    • @stephenmartinez1
      @stephenmartinez1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

maybe you're loading it wrong? you're supposed to load clothes in "loose heaps," surrounding the impeller, never on top of it or circled around it. towels and sheets you fold,., heavier and bulkier items first, and lighter on top, smaller to medium sized loads work best with the impeller, and when loaded properly should all get washed, if you watch a piece of clothing closely it should slowly be pulled under, and resurface a minute later. the agitator is supposed to be for heavier type clothing, like jeans and towels. but really you shouldn't need to switch between the agitator or the impeller at all if you don't want to, just pick one. he top loaders require a bit more attention, you'll need to pre treat stains before washing, and freshly soiled or nasty clothing should be pre washed or rinsed and spun first, or soaked. if you're really determined to idiot proof it, and make sure they are clean, then leave the agitator on, and set a favorite cycle with the deep fill option, and tell your children to press the favorite button when doing the load, you won't need to worry as much about improper loading with the agitator on. the dual feature IS a bit of a gimmick, but that does not mean that both options are not effective or useful in their own ways. as for clothing not appearing to have gotten wet; it's possible that the high spin simply did a good job drying them off. it's a minor inconvenience compared to the old school washers, but the trade off is large- as the old ones used as much water as a large bathtub, and did a poor job of spinning the clothes dry, increasing time and energy used in the dryer. if most of your loads are large and fill the tub, then definitely use the agitator.

I find I'm using "Deep Water" more often if I suspect the clothes won't turn over. We do a lot of small loads and it is fine. Deep Water helps for big loads, but you'll use more resources (water, heating energy).

Great post... good concept with the removable agitator pole but this machine is garbage. The agitator does not pull the clothes down to the bottom or assist with rolling them over, If it was dual action it might work better or if the impeller fins were a little bigger you might see more of a bloom or rollover. for the most part the impeller just rubs the clothes on the bottom and not the ones on top. Your clothes might be wet but not clean. This machine is built for small to medium light loads.

The Quick Instruction sheet shows that clothes are not supposed to be placed in the machine in overlapping layers. They are supposed to be added in clumps around basin/agitator. Maybe that makes the difference?

    • @wxrayreview

Yes. I don't recall reading that, maybe they changed the instructions based on feedback. I'm not saying I'm an expert, just showing how it worked for me coming from what I know. I just bought mine 4 days ago. I do not like the keypad you have to press the buttons down harder than I think you should hav too. I can see this wearing out over time. I do not like the noise and I bought because of the agitator feature. My clothes are not moving around as I think they should and I’m washing small loads. I don’t like that it doesn’t have a fabric softener dispenser or detergent so I definitely will be using pods. I still can’t figure out when I can actually add in my fabric softener because the instructions are not helpful. I still have my old LG washer waiting for someone to pickup. I may just bring them back in and have my washer repaired. I had high hopes of getting the top loader and going with the front loader. My only complaint was the mildew smell after washing a few loads but that doesn’t seem so bad after washing 6 loads of laundry in this machine.

Question: If you change the temperature to cold and turn off the machine (or run a full cycle and it turns off on its own) when you turn the machine on does it retain the previously selected temperature or does it reset to a default? I rarely use anything but cold water and really want a machine that you can set and forget but all the fancy new ones seem to have their own defaults...

These types of machines always need more water than what the machine will provide or senses, and then the load will turn over repeatedly as it washes and everything gets washed correctly. If you don't add more water to the initial level, the load won't move around as it should and most items won't move around to be able to get washed correctly. Bottom line....SELECT A HIGHER WATER LEVEL AND YOU WON'T HAVE A PROBLEM IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN JUST A VERY SMALL LOAD. IF ALL THE ITEMS ARE NOT FREELY MOVING AROUND AS THEY SHOULD, ADD MORE WATER!!!!!

From some guy who didn't know jack about these washers, the washer was not adding more water it was recirculating the same water. and dude you had way too many clothes in that machine. They have agitators for a reason. This washer is suspended on 4 flimsy rods. They are flimsy because the manufacturer is using way less water and recirculating the water. This to me is the saddest washer I have ever seen in action yet. They deleted the turbidity sensing but forgot to give this washer a life of its own possibly because of them rods. I can see some brainiac at MIT saying the people are pissed because of the super pc controls lets dummy them up but not too too much because we need to SAVE water to make energy guidelines. What water are you saving if you have to wash twice as many loads?

    • @DanWebster
      @DanWebster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They need to make the tub way smaller so that the water will appear higher and will cover the clothes at least. The removable agitator is a great idea IF the tub was half as big, would probably be way less resistance on the motor making it last longer. I can distribute clothes quite well on my own I don't need a machine to FEEL if I put stuff in correctly. The inventors of this machine probably didn't know how to pour piss out a boot with the directions on the heel. -PawPaw

I was informed they CAN'T do anything about it. keep waiting for more parts and installation. From August to November with four kids and a paid for washer that is still broken. It's their policy, I was told it would be replaced after three repair calls. They count the three calls as ONE because they were all within 90 days. These people are the worst I've ever experienced. The problem is our government stipulating the companies go HE (high energy) due to water shortages around the country. Thankfully we do have
the deep fill option. One washer I had only sprayed water on the spinning clothes for the rinse cycle. The clothes will get a build up of stink and
so to combat this they came up with the scent beads!! You have to stand there and see what the cycles do. I find the active wear cycle to be worthless. The fabric softener selection is useless. They showed me a model that had the trays, but the one they delivered did not. I selected BULKY for a queen sheet set, some towels and a few other items. I put in the liquid soap and used the water option to rinse out my cup. They say when you use
the water faucet option it is interfering with the sensor and sure enough, it turned the pump on to eject water before washing began. So, did it eject my soap too???? The SOAK light starts agitation (let's face it, there is very little agitation in any cycle) then it intermittently adds water SEVEN TIMES until it reaches the full DEEP WATER mark. After that it WASH (es) for about 5 minutes and then ejects the water etc. I need to add sanitizer to a few of my loads during the rinse cycle. I waited until the water was full and PAUSED the machine to empty it around the bin. It only agitated about ten times and then started to pump the water out. I think when I need to do this I will use the bleach compartment since the liquid will fall between the clothes bin and the tub surround and MAY mix with the water better once that cycle starts.

  • @northcarolinanana1252
    @northcarolinanana1252 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Unfortunately I will have to say that this is the worst washing machine I have ever used. The rinse cycle , which I use for disinfectant additive, is non existent. You need to be there to add rinse agents since there is nowhere to put the additive. Not only that but they don' even have a rinse indicator on the machine. I purchased due to the large tub and the fact that you can wash bedding. I was disappointed to see that you can not disinfect the bedding which is gross. The design is very poor. I went from a front load to a top load due to the poor design of the front load. It holds water and therefore has a bad odor from the nasty water sitting in it. It's not even energy efficient so I am not sure why the reviews are so good.

Have a new two in one without the detergent drawer. If I add colored soap to the bottom of the drum is will seriously stain any fabric it comes into contact. The stain will disappear after 6 or so washings. Tried to add the soap with the faucet running however the unit drains the water and soap when you start a cycle. Only path forward would be to cut all colored soap 1:1 with water or add the soap through the bleach port. Really poor design. Would have thought Whirlpool wound have anticipated this problem. This is not a good agitator washer because the agitator only goes left then right or back and forth motion. Does not make a full circle. Even in your video, you can see it never pulls down the clothes under water. It's a joke that it's there. Worth less........ The washer is not worth the money.

How about a update and some real cycle wash load would be nice.

I don't have time for another demo, but here's how it is going.
Someone mentioned here a great tip. Clump the clothes, don't layer them. This made a huge difference.
For lightly soiled clothes that adult office workers have, the default settings are fine with no agitator. Do not use too much soap!!! For work clothes (and probably kid's clothes), I put it on the max with agitator. Heavy duty, with "Deep Water" and "Extra Rinse." I hit stains with a rub of soap first. It takes almost 2 hours to run the cycle, but it works pretty well.

I have an attachment to my sink to add more water to my washing machine or else there's not enough water to clean my clothes. By the time the items on the top hit the water, the cycle is over with these new machines.

I've had this washer for 2 months and it's not working. 3rd whirlpool in 3 years. Absolute junk, never will I buy anything related to whirpool ever again.
