    Spears racing transmission kit has all of this stuff and more. It makes shifting so much smoother. Then the racing clutch spring and friction plates grab real solid. They have a lot more friction material on them. They still don’t grab like carbon fibers.

    This a great mod whether or not you take it to the track. I'm an aggressive back road street rider and I burnt my clutch out at 8,000 miles. Had the dealer repair it for free under warranty and I'm at over 19k miles now and haven't had the issue since but I feel it's going to happen eventually. I'm keeping the 400 even when I get a 600 or litre bike so I'm definitely going to do this mod and I recommend every rider who loves to go hard on their 400 to do this mod AND to swap out the clutch plate springs with better ones.

    • @PtchersWR

      that's crazy they replaced it for free, my dealer said clutches aren't covered under warranty. I have 4500 miles on my 2023 Z400 and it slipping at high rpm so I bought a Norton Clutch Kit to have installed, with better plates, springs, and a bunch of other stuff so hopefully that works.

    You must have modded the arm that holds the end of the clutch cable cause mine is nowhere easy to remove in fact it doesn’t even make sense that it’s removable. Mine is a 2018 and the end doesn’t even have anywhere to go to undo it out of the whole.

    How do you check the free play after the spring install? I tried to install this thing and I guess the factory or dealer snugged the hell out of the bolts down at the clutch cover, ended up snapping that section off the clutch cover. waiting on a new clutch cover, trying to figure out how to press a needle bearing into cover at home. Shop wants $400 to do it, they are insane.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With this spring on the cable it is a little tougher to properly adjust the cable for sure. The best advice I can give is to take your time and adjust it in both directions to get an understanding of how it feels when it is loose and when it is tight. Hope this helps and sorry you ran into some trouble. - Van

  • @PtchersWR
    @PtchersWR 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Just got this installed by my local mechanic :-) He was saying the clutch lever free play is harder to get into spec with the cable spring in place. Any suggestions on making sure its in spec when I adjust it myself?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This does change the feel at the lever a bit, that said I personally do not feel it makes adjusting the free play any harder. The best advice I can give you is more free play is always better than not enough. If you adjust it too tight the clutch will end up slipping. - Van

      @PtchersWR 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sportbiketrackgear so the free play should be measured the same even with the spring in place? Because it always is pulling back on me when I try and adjust it accurately if you know what I mean

    After installing the spring, am I suppose to make sure there's little to no free play down by the clutch? I know there's suppose to be slack by the clutch lever but what about down by the clutch itself? Thanks!

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is a little tougher to find the right amount of slack with the spring in place. When we ran this I would adjust the cable to the point where there was zero slack and back it off until I could feel the slack. Do this a few times so you can tell the difference. - Van

    • @sportbiketrackgear

    • @sportbiketrackgear

    @bojisilverelk2105 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is this supposed to make it so there’s no free play at the clutch lever? I can’t get the cable to both be tight engage clutch, while also having the 1mm of “required free play” at the lever

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do not have any free play in the clutch lever you will burn the clutch up. Very important on this bike (or any other) to get this right. - Van

    Need you advice... My mechanic told me my clutch was slipping and needs replacement. I insisted that clutch is not slipping since what im experiencing is when I upshift say from 2nd gear to 3rd, it will just engage 3rd gear but goes back to 2nd gear and revs high. Happened several times also in other gears whenever I upshift. Im suspecting the issue is in the transmission and not the clutch. Any thoughts?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes this is an issue with the transmission that can may require undercutting the trans to solve. An engine builder will need to do this. We also have a couple parts from Norton Motorsports that can also help this. Below are a couple of links to them:
