    One of the best cameras I've ever owned! The look and FEEL of the camera were superb!

    I love my EOS R. I bought it in 2019. It is a really good camera. The 4K crop has never bothered me. I bought the Canon 16-35 4L and the Tamron EF 24-70 G2 and now I have the RF 16mm.

      Nice!! It really is a great camera:) good to know about your experience with the crop. The 16-35 f4 is what I have too. I was thinking about the RF 16 but got the 28 instead! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience☺️

    Hey man, great images and video! Been rocking the EOS R since early 2019. It helped me build a six figure photo/video side of my creative agency. I don't use it for video anymore, but it still does great for product photography and lifestyle photography. My clients love the images we produce with it and that's what matters to me. It's still fun to take with me on family trips and photograph my wife and kids. Lot's of people on YT crapped on it early on, but it's been a great investment for me.

      Thank you! I appreciate that:) Good on you on your photography business! Congrats! Yeah it's a fantastic camera, I'm glad that we both saw through the negative ecochamber on YT. I think everyone was expecting the R5 on a first gen camera.

    I have used the R6M2, and the R8, but I must say the R has a great feel to it--I love the grip. It's probably my favorite camera (even without the joystick) just because of the way it feels. It's fun to use.

      I agree it does feel great in the hands! I don’t have experience using either the R8 or R6 2 thanks for sharing your experience! I’m sure others are considering those options:)

    Just purchased the EOS R as my first mirrorless full-frame camera (Canon canon damaged box sale). Upgraded from the Canon 6D and the difference in work-flow and resulting image quality is fantastic. I also have an R10 for my sports and wildlife photos. But really love the R for portraits and family photos.

    Great video mate!! 2024 - STILL using my EOS R - hell I built a six figure business off of it (video & photo) - used it for a lot of run & gun projects all over the world and it's built like a tank. Underestimated tool for sure. I'll be grabbing an R3 later this year when the price drops, but still hang on to this for B-cam stuff.

    Thank you for the honest and balanced video, Jesse. I'm using the R since 2019 and I still enjoy it a lot. As an amateur, I play with it in several photography genres: landscape, portrait, macro, astro, wildlife etc. It is a bit too slow for sports and wildlife, although I always make great bird images with it (as a hobbyist, I have the luxury to miss a few oportunities without regrets). I love the detail it provides to landscape images, as well as its low light capability, useful for portraits and astrophotography. I have a bunch of EF lenses, plus the RF 24-105 f/4 (incredibly sharp). I occasionally use it with EF-S (why not?) and adapted vintage lenses as well. As you said, it is an underrated camera which I would still recommend today, particularly at the current price point. Cheers!

    Jesse, I agree with you 100% I too came from the DSLR crowd and I was looking to get into the Mirrorless market about 3 years ago and future proof my camera with the RF mount but still be able to continue to use all my EF mount- L Series glass. It is still my main workhorse today, only now, am I thinking of getting an R6 mkII for Video and start to upgrade my glass to RF. I would still hold on to my EOS R as a B Cam.

    Really interested in those comments Jesse, especially around the menu system, it’s one of the things that makes changing between Canon camera models painless. I operate an R7 and an R5 and have set them up as you have to make them as similar as possible especially using identical custom modes. I shot film from 1967 to 2004 and to be honest it’s things like AF and Image Stabilisation that have really improved the “keeper” rate as I don’t remember having too many problems with exposure. Of course there is video which is a dream compared to anything pre the 5d2 , when I think back to my dads clockwork 8mm film camera of the 60’s &70’s the capabilities of the R5 are a mind benders 😀 . BTW beautiful portraits 😀

    I bought the EOS R in late 2019 for a great deal… everyone had been complaining about it (lack of dual card slots, the stupid Touch Bar, etc, etc) so the price had dropped significantly. (Then the R6 came out with only 20MP and all of a sudden the R didn’t look so bad!) But now I’m looking at the great deals on the R6 Mark 2 and wondering if it’s time to upgrade and make the R a backup body. (I’m also sitting on an $1100 trade-in credit with one retailer, so I guess that’s part of my motivation.) As good as the AF is in the R - as compared to the DSLR world - it does frustrate me sometimes. I was shooting t-ball the other day and it was the first time I had really pushed the R in that way. The last time I regularly shot sports, I was still using a 5D Mark III and a 1D Mark II. After shooting a burst of images, the R would just completely freeze up on me… I couldn’t even pre-focus to be ready for the next burst until, I guess, the buffer cleared. In the moment, I couldn’t really comprehend what was going on… just that I was stuck with a blurry viewfinder and an inability to focus. I shoot professionally, but only part-time, so I keep questioning if I should even be considering upgrading. I know only I know my financial situation and that’s really not a problem… I’m still trying to be smart about it. I have the RF 24-105 F4, the RF 28-70 f2, the RF 70-200 2.8 IS, and a few carryover EF lenses, so it’s not even like I need to put my money towards lenses first. And there is always new gear coming, but I’m usually not an early adopter… I wait for price drops or used/refurb’ed deals and I keep my gear a long time. But with the way tech advances so quickly now, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of residual value left in older cameras, so it doesn’t seem to make sense to wait through too many upgrade cycles anymore. I feel like I’ve given myself every reason to upgrade… but still I hesitate!

    I am seriously considering selling my EOS R. What would be a worthwhile upgrade coming from this camera?

  • @angelllacuna8889
    @angelllacuna8889 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Does the Canon R keep the separate configurations that we have established for video and photography ? So we don`t need to reset the settings each time we switch bettween the 2 shooting modes.
    This involves basically the settings for ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

    Do you feel that shooting this camera is kinda slow? I own the eos R and the 6d Mark I and the 6d is definantely faster, probably the sensor reads faster on the 6d due to less mgpxels

    I got 964 shots the last time I used mine and the battery is at 23%. (PowerExtra LP-E6 2,600mAh.)
    Something that people miss is that the 4K crop puts it in-line with a lot of standard film industry crop factors. If you have an issue with the crop, buy a different lens. If you buy the body specifically for video, you've bought the wrong body, whether it has 6K down-sampling or not which the R doesn't. If you want a photograph centric body for video, buy Sony, not Canon. The R, more the RP has soft video (and aliasing issues at 2K), but nothing in comparison to a good amount of television cameras still in use and popular demand. I don't like the sharpness Sony bodies produce, I find it ugly and unappealing, same goes for the latest of Canon R bodies with the down-sampling, but nowhere near to the same extent.

      @@JesseDeyoungIt really is. Super 35, I think. And a lot of film S35 cameras have an MFT mount. You can say goodbye to anything remotely wide angle unless you have the money for MFT mount S35 lenses. :D
      The crop doesn't bother me either, I prefer it in all honesty. Yeah, still a deal breaker for some.

    • @JesseDeyoung
      @JesseDeyoung  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The crop factor is 1.7x in 4K and it doesn’t have ibis. Neither really bother me since the video work I use this camera for its always on a tripod and I have a wide angle lens (16-35) that makes the crop not so bad. I think it really shines in the still department though.
