  • I'm sure many of you will be happy to know that I am now venturing into using other flight controllers other than the Omnibus. It's still a great flight controller. What makes it great is Betaflights OSD feature and menu which allows us to change parameters specific to Betaflight firmware, where other OSDs can not. Now that MW OSD has firmware for the Minim OSD Micro we can still have these great features, with any flight controller we want.

      It really is great news. Now I can move away from the Omnibus and give you guys some more flight controller reviews and "how to"s, now that we can get the same features as the Omnibus OSD but on any flight controller.

    So if a FC has a built in OSD the why buy the mini OSD also? I cant figure out how to get the OSD working on he Omnibus FC's that are built in. Do you have a video on hw you wire them up? Thanks.

    Hello. is late, but i just installed a minimiosd and F3. but i cant enter to osd settings throught TX command because i think can't camunicate the TX comands to the OSD via serial. how you configure the betaflight ports and with what configurator version? greetings

    It seems as though there is a problem with the font set in 1.7 and LibrePilot. I can clear the EEPROM and upload the firmware without issue but the new GUI in Chrome cannot connect. I have to clear the EEPROM using the Chrome app (to remove the font) and then I can connect. However, the screen settings are never saved and none of the settings made via the transmitter are saved. I suppose it's back to 1.6 for me. It's a shame that the new GUI is no longer free and doesn't work. I'm sure, in time, it will get ironed out. If you are using a CC3D, I'd recommend holding off on 1.7.

    so i looking to add an osd to my inav quad, but currently got an old minimosd the large version. attached to a test betafligh quad.... anyway i just curious the betaflight osd firmware can this be flashed to an external osd like your micro minim osd or mine ? and will that work through the betaflight configurator, or is the betaflight osd specific to only a flight controller with integrated osd ?

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Betaflight OSD is specifically for flight controllers with it built it, so as of now it only works on the Omnibus and Betaflight F3 flight controllers. But with this MW OSD firmware you will get not all, but most of the features that Betaflight 3.1 and newer firmware has to offer.

      ok thanks for clarifying that, i am still running a couple of naze32 rev5's and find them great, but ideally looking to upgrade to a better flight controller for my inav quad... its running a naze32 at the moment but integrated osd, and sd car logging plus extra uarts is my consideration especially as they are now so cheap...

    Kind of off topic, and I'm not sure if you saw my last comment on the Strix Ochi fpv camera review, I wired the camera the way you suggested to the Omnibus to get the transparent osd data and there's nothing showing up. I do have the osd function turned on in the configuration tab of Betaflight, the solder bridge is good between the Vin/Vout pins on the Omnibus, and still nothing. Do you have any suggestions brother? Thanks in advance

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd try just wiring the camera and Vtx wires together not on the OSD to see if you are getting video. If not then its something between those two. If you are getting video then in Betaflight on the OSD tab I would try selecting both NTSC and PAL settings.

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Project Blue Falcon Thanks for the suggestions man, and I do have camera footage through my goggles using the Ochi camera, RMRC Cricket v2 200mw, and Omnibus f4 v2 pro. I have also tried switching from pal to ntsc to auto in the Betaflight osd tab with no luck. I really wonder if it's the hmdvr that I have wired to my Headplay hd's that's filtering out the transparent osd data.

    Thank you for the update on the MWOSD, this days nobody seems to look in that direction.
    I want to ask, what does the canvas option do, because I was a bit confused when you didn't enabled it in the tutorial(@9:37)?
    I thought that this is the feature required to access BF more detailed options.

    • @marwar666
      @marwar666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so too. The description in the config.h says "Enable CANVAS mode support for post betaflight 3.1.0 CMS"
      (CMS=Configuration Menu System) So this is exactly the feature needed to access the betaflight config through MWOSD.

    • @blackmennewstyle
      @blackmennewstyle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canvas will allow you to use smartaudio for example and you will be able to change your video TX channel and power if you use of course a vTX compatible like the TBS Unify Pro serie :)

    Is it possible to flash minimOsd using Betaflight passthrough? Without disconnecting OSD from FC uart and using FTDI adapter?

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats one thing I haven't figured out yet. Not sure if you saw but I do have that video on the passthrough to make changes in the MW OSD GUI. But as far as flashing new firmware using the passthrough on Arduino, not sure. I'm sure its possible, I'm just unaware of how to.

    • @yojazdayo
      @yojazdayo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Project Blue Falcon Yes, I saw this video and it's working fine. It will be great to flash osd through FC :-)
      So maybe you figure out how to do this.

    Bit of an off topic question, and apologies if you already explained this, but what kind of goggles do you use? I have been looking at a couple of them but most seem pretty controversial and i was looking for your thoughts.

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the Fatshark Dominator V3s. I personally chose them because I like the diversity receiver modules they offer. Specifically I'm using the True D V3. The Fatshark HD V3s are more expensive, but they have a slightly bigger and better screens. But I still went with the Dominator V3s.

      Project Blue Falcon Thanks for the reply! Im considering getting those goggles but im not too sure yet. Keep making these great videos!

    It became a lot less awesome when this FW actually released and the GUI is now closed source and non-free, especially since the free 1.6 gui won't work with it on the release version. Since the 1.6 gui worked with the 1.7 FW in your video of the beta version, it's obvious the compatibility was disabled purely for monetary reasons. Nobody would buy the paid app when the old gui still worked after all. Don't get me wrong. I have no issue with the cost, ($2 isn't much.) I do however take extreme issue with free open source projects becoming closed source paid projects though, especially when shenanigans are pulled where previously working free versions are artificially broken just to force use of the paid version.
    Thankfully we have betaflight osd now, and as time goes on, we'll see more and more FC's that support it.

    dude. thx again for these vids. ivenwatched all your mwosd vids and many others as well, and im still stuck with the failed to sync error bullshit in arduino programmer. ive checked wiring, tried three different ftdi adaptors, installed and reinstalled stm32 drivers. im stumped and have been for close on two years!!
    please give me a lifeline or a clue what im doing wrong. i feel like ive been running in circles!!

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm honestly not sure on that one. Sorry about that. I tried to include all my tips and ideas in the Minim OSD playlist videos. If you wired the ftdi adaptor right, have all the right drivers, and selected to correct board, rate, and com port in arduino, then it should connect. So not sure whats going on.

      Project Blue Falcon thx bro. yeah it drives me fucking nuts. everything is in place and i swear it is all connected up and sorted but alas i still cant flash anything yet. even tried two different computers. wtf i say

  • @peterwoo2489

    So you can't connect to the OSD via Betaflight?

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get data from your flight controller with betaflight, but the Betaflight OSD tab in the configurator is only for compatible flight controllers with OSD built in. As of now the only two are the Omnibus and Betaflight F3.

    Can it do VTX channels?

    • @ZeroFPV
      @ZeroFPV 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What would this be good for? You couldn't see the OSD at all if you're not on the right channel. xD

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately no. You would need a Vtx with the hardware and software capable of that feature.

    • @marwar666
      @marwar666 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      With Betaflight 3.1 support for Smartaudio was added. This means if you are using a TBS Unify and have a spare UART you can control the VTX! Not only can you change the channel but you have full access to all features of the Unify, similar to using a Smart device like the CorePNP. This includes RF power without the need to unlock, race/freestyle mode, configuring pit mode and custom frequencies.
      Take a look at the wiki for more info: github.com/betaflight/betaflight/wiki/Unify-Smartaudio
      I just completed a build using this setup and it works great.
      BTW, you need to uncomment the line "//#define CANVAS_SUPPORT" before flashing the MWOSD firmware for the BF menu system to work. I think this was missing in the video.

    JC.. as info - I saw a post from Bruce Simpson (RCModelReviews) over on fpvlabs-- google has announced they are not going to support chrome apps going forward and are going to actively kill the ability to update or serve them.. so that means the GUI for betaflight, inav, cleanflight, mwosd is going to have to go elsewhere... here is the link to the post from Bruce: fpvlab.com/forums/showthread.php?48847-Hmm-bad-news-for-quot-configurator-quot-apps&highlight=chrome+apps
    and here is the article he linked to: arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/08/google-is-killing-chrome-apps-on-windows-mac-and-linux/
    here is the actual google announcement: blog.chromium.org/2016/08/from-chrome-apps-to-web.html
    I do have the latest version 1.6.8.0 version running on both of my quads and used the chrome app to configure them, at least for the items I wanted on the display (voltage, callsign throttle percentage, and flight time, the chrome app worked fine.

    • @ProjectBlueFalcon
      @ProjectBlueFalcon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the share. I don't think we have anything to worry about though. The only benefit to having these configurators through chrome apps are they automatically update themselves. You can still download the configurators and use them that way. We would just have to redownload the configurator and also firmware every time there is an update. That would be more annoying, but we would still have everything.
