Troubleshooting Minim OSD Micro (common problems & fixes)

- Here I try my best to help you find out why your Minim OSD Micro with MW OSD firmware may not be working. It could be a problem in the Arduino set up, or the MW OSD GUI, or even a wiring problem. If you try everything and its still not working then try using a different camera and video transmitter, because it might not the the OSD.

JC - Thank you! This was very helpful to me. You've given a great checklist and I had everything configured correctly. I could see the video and OS display but only 0V showed up. So that only left the RX TX leads being the wrong way around despite me thinking they were right. I swapped them and the voltage came up showing what looks to be the correct voltage. Brilliant! You are absolutly right about common ground. I had interference with transmitter TS5828 because it has two grounds. One of them I used as a power-input and the other for powering the camera and the OSD. When I mixed them up, the interference disappeared. Thank you.

Great video! I've figured out these issues on my own. One issue is giving me a headache. I get a low Hz buzz/hum when text is displayed or flashing. I've lifted grounds, as well as added caps. Every minim I use just adds noise in the video. I call it low hz because I hear it using my goggles.
Hey, JC. Just curious, my green light on the OSD flashes quick but has a pause for a second where it doesn't flash then continuously does his. Does that mean it is no good? I can't seem to get video or OSD but it does power up and seems to flash with Arduino. if I disconnect power or ground I get rainbow video....
hello JC, I want your opinion about it I wanted to change the software version from 1.6 to 1.7 but I can't do it anymore, the two LEDs on the FDTI and the mini OSD flashes green but there is no way to load anything or even read,do you think it 's fried the mini osd? thanks for your every comment
Quick question; I was able to flash my minimOSD micro using Arduino and the MWOSD gui with no problem.
When inside Betaflight 3.1 all ports are assigned, data xfer rate set, CLI checked and it looks right.
But I cannot access the OSD in Betaflight. The error message is that BF cannot communicate with the OSD.
Does it require that a camera and xmtr be connected? This is a bare board not mounted to a quad yet. Just getting all the bits and pieces in place before the final build.
I have ordered another minimosd board just in case I've fried this one I have.
The FC I'm using is a SPRacing F3 board and plugged into UART2 port, selected in BF and speed set to 115200. I've also tried swapping TX and RX on the OSD to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated. :)

I am having a very hard time using the micro minimosd. I flashed the firmware with audrino and it wouldnt work with mwosd 1.7. But mwosd now has a flash feature on the chrome app. I tried that and I got the display to work, but its not communicating with the flight controller. I have tried 2 different flight controllers on every single uart port. I cant find much info about mwosd 1.7. Anybody have any ideas?

JC thanks for the great video. quick question for you. Im seeing a signal with OSD text and data but no video. I've swapped cameras and tried the ntsc/pal settings but still no video. it was working last night im not sure what could have happened to it. what else can i check? If im seeing osd text and video does that mean my vtx is working properly?
Update: I just tried wiring the camera directly tot he vtx bypassing the osd, STILL no video!! is it possible the vtx is bad? i really dont understand this.
If you're not getting video when wired straight from camera to Vtx then there is definitely some wrong with either one of those. Possible causes that I can think of is, powering the Vtx with no antenna on it because that will kill it or not using the correct voltage to either camera or Vtx.
Project Blue Falcon thanks. yeah I checked the voltage coming out if my LC filter it is right. I swapped the camera with a brand new one, same, I don't have another vtx to try. guess I'm gonna order one. 🤔
Watch Stinger Swarms video on reflowing video transmitters in a oven. That might fix it. But I would still order a new one. Its good to have a spare to do tests with. th-cam.com/video/0lmG7YwWGus/w-d-xo.html
Did you manage to use it with revolt FC ?
With the current Raceflight configurator, no. I honestly dont think its possible as of right now. Neither is telemetry with FrSky receivers. But RF1 will be released soon hopefully. They said it would be released "in a few days" but that was two weeks ago. I'm playing around with the beta version of RF1 now to have everything figured out by the time it officially releases.
So it's possible with rf1 ?
The Beta I'm using is very very basic. Just enough in the CLI to get it flying and tune PIDs. Everything else is disabled at the moment. But I'm almost certain OSD and telemetry will work with RF1.
loved this series but i still have a weird issue, my fpv screen is filled with V's and F's and O's and what not. some vales are flickering and those are in chinese.

Hey man, great video. I still am having a slight issue. My "Call Sign" initially shows up, along with timer MAH and Volts, etc. My problem is, my call sign disappears after about 5 seconds. Everything else, works fins and stays on the OSD. Why would the call sign alone disappear? I am using KISS FC with 24A KISS ESC using the Micro Minimosd as you are showing above, I am not sure if KISS is the problem, but need help if you have time. The whole point for me having OSD in the first place was to be identified while at races. Any help, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks man.
By the way, all of your videos are really well done. Your explanation of all items are very good, I went right through the set up with ease, without this video I would have been lost. Thanks again for getting me started.
J - Skins Thats normal. You can set it to persistent mode at config.h by uncommenting //define callsignalways

Would love to see a tutorial on how to reload the bootloader again. I have a micro that seems to be working fine (both blue and green leds are on), but I can't connect to it. The Arduino software won't allow me to connect, neither the MWOSD GUI. I think I bricked it somehow, but it's not burnt.
Miquel Pavillard i have the same prob and always have had no luck thru four or so minimosds.. arduino software gives me the same message about sync and refuses to flash. the mwosd gui also never connects. and yet i can link to flight controllers and even an old kk2 board no problem.
i swear i have all the drivers etc installed and have tried multiple ftdi boards nd minimosds but no luck. any ideas yet?
El Cabron Negro no. The only thing left for me to try is to load the bootloader with an arduino board instead of an ftdi adapter. There are some tutorials on TH-cam about it
