    Hi Andy
    A great tutorial and excellent timing as I've just purchased another APM 2.8 which has the MinimOSD bundled with it. Interesting issue with the cloned power module. I already have a Genuine 3DR APM install in one of my fixed wings so I'll pay attention to the differences between the 3DR power module and the cloned version supplied with the latest APM2.8. The FrSky voltage sensors are very accurate but I have reservations about the 40Amp current sensor. I had one of these installed on my Hex and with a 3s 10400mAh battery my flight times dropped from 18mins to 7mins. I found that the voltage drop within the sensor exponentially increased as the device warmed up. Even though it's spec'd at 40Amp any current draw above 10Amp resulted in an excessive Voltage drop.
    Regards

      thanks for the info. I'll have to pin all my hopes on the 3dr power module working then. cheers

      So far I've not had any issues with the 3DR module. It tracks the Voltage and Current draw/used quite accurately. I'm sure you probably have but if not you do need to tell the system, via Mission Planner, that the module is installed along with the battery type and capacity. I've yet to install an FPV system on my APM equipped plane so I've been using the 433MHz radio telemetry link with my Android Phone (Droid Planner) to monitor all the onboard sensors and to create and execute Waypoint Missions. Your tutorial on the MinimOSD will be invaluable when I get round to fitting it, hopefully in the next week or so.
      Regards

    Hi Andy, I appreciate this video was done awhile ago, but from memory and in general can you have only signal wire going into minim osd from camera and only signal wire going out to vtx without earth? Thats if you have powered both sides of the osd with pixhawk telemetry input. Cos I think i have read somewhere in arduplane regarding the pixhawk servo rails, you have to power the servo rail with a separate 5v or 6v supply but it's always recommended that you connect signal wire including ground to the servo railing regardless. Thanks for your efforts in general, my first ever question 😊

    Is minim OSD support 4s lipo? I mean i am going to upgrade my drone with 4s lipo, so i want to know that can i connect the minim osd to 14.8 v supply?

    Hi Andy, nice one, as indeed it is a pain to get an OSD working properly with Pixhawk from my experience! One thing though regarding the voltage problem, did you calibrate properly your battery with a meter while at 75% thrust with inverted props, so you can play with your divider and come to a reading on MP close to the Meter reading? Also, if I may you mention you would perhaps go for the Frsky module directly from the battery; and was wondering what you were referring to Andy, please?

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FPV Cambodia yes It was calibrated under load in a previous episode and it doesnt work :( frsky sell their own telem module for battery voltage that plugs into the X8r and sends the telemetry to the taranis

    I have a small issue, the video that the osd puts out from the fpv camera is very bright, overexposed. Barely can see anything. This doesn't happen when directly plugged into the vtx without the osd. Do you know what is wrong?

    Off topic but have you done any videos on ezWifibroadcast, Andy? I need someone to show me how I can connect a pixhawk cube to the raspberry pi and have telemetry (compass, gps data, voltage etc etc) on the HDMI monitor. :( plenty of paragraphs saying it can be done but no step-by-step instructions anywhere.

    Hi Andy; Nice one! I have a couple of these bloody Mavlink board without the jumper from 12 to 5 VDC removing the power to the intputs Video components. And never used them due top the risks of over heating, and disaster in-flight! I concentrated on your bypass hardware removing the component you properly showed (minute 17 Ich); but would like to know if there were some proper "how to" anywhere on the net, as I have not found it and gave up! I'd like to reuse these little Mavlink OSDs, as a few are here awaiting to work, in the drawer... Tks for your consideration, if I may; and cheers for such well done and to the point tutorials; once again! Cheers and Safe Flying!

      @AndyRCchannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FPV Cambodia the problem with the mavlink is theres so many different versions of them. I only have the one in this vid. the best thing to do is search on goggle images to try and find your version to do the mod. as for the mod its self i just heated the component up with a soldering iron until it fell loose ensuring that non of the other components were touched.

    Hi Andy, you have a great series shaping up here. I am following your build and using it as a base for one that I have planned. Is the crius mavlink-osd the same one that you have (I can't post links here unfortunately)? I am trying to get by with as little soldering as possible. Also, in this setup, is it possible to get telemetry for both the radio and the fpv setup?

    • @sarathmenon4828

    Maybe a bit late but :
    MavLink doesn't work on every FlightController board.
    It works on a CC3D flashed in OpenPilot, but not CC3D flashed in Cleanflight
    MavLink also doesn't work on a SPRacing F3 board.
    Instead of Mavlink you have to use MW-OSD

    hi andy
    Ur osd is reading voltage which is not stable Reading due to the input 5v of osd is not stable. as you may be knowing the analog reference is taken as reference voltage to calculate the battery voltage, current, etc.
    If u connect it to a another battery (1s) to power the osd then you would get a stable reading or just use a 9v battery and 5v regulator. It would not be a problem coz it osd consume much less power.
    I hope this will help you in readings on osd👍👍👍

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will give it a try thanks!

    • @sjobbefin
      @sjobbefin 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is bulls*hit. The voltage reading is a value that comes from Pixhawk. Pixhawk knows the voltage because the power module tells Pixhawk that. The voltage goes low because it actually goes low. This is caused by too low C-rating on the battery or otherwise busted battery. Change battery to something with higher C-rating.

    • @AndyRCchannel

      Andy's 100% right, some of us sit down for hours with our quads, it's our hobby. There is a reason many of us get a pixhawk or some of the more complicated FC's too, rather than just something we drop in with a very small feature-set.
