    What a classy, personable young lady.A great addition to the Park Tool family. I have seen her race a few times when our Grandkids raced. Maybe I missed it but she's married to Sam, an Olympic medal winner and multi time World Champion.

    So glad y'all are involving BMX, it's such an important part of cycling. My favorite is it's (I've heard) it's directly responsible for a falling crime rate in NYC. Great interview

    European BMX Championships in Glasgow about to kick off. We have a brand new, state-of-the-art BMX track here in Knightswood. Like Alise Willoughby says, lets hope the builders got it right - the start of these races look totally insane!!

      The UCI rules have more to do with the classes of races, Championship, Challenge and Masters divided up by wheel size (20/24in).
      As far as I know, weight and frame material do not really play a factor and are left up to the individual teams on how they want to set their bikes up.
      Also to note, carbon, titanium and billet aluminum frames and parts have been available in the bmx world since the 90's though with today's tech, they're much more advanced and form fitting to the riders.

    (BMX ignorant here) - Is there UCI rules on weight or materials for these bikes? I am surprised it's not a carbon mainframes, carbon wheels, carbon cranks, post, etc...Maybe even go all out with custom 20" Dugast tubulars for rolling resistance. With an Olympic gold medal on the line, I would assume no holds barred.

    • @mcarrusa

    Quick little footnote the reason BMXers run their gearing on the left side is because they usually grind on the right side and it's just cleaner and easier to grind without all of the mucky-muck of the sprocket and chain I love you all

    • @parktool
      @parktool  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good grinding intel. Thanks

  • @Metal-Possum
    @Metal-Possum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    She seems nice, but you can tell when Calvin wants to correct her but doesn't because he's being a nice guy about it.
    It's merely a single speed, not a fixed gear. Fixed gears mean coasting is not an option.
    3/32" chain isn't a "tighter fit" than 1/8" or 3/16", assuming you use the matching width chain-rings and sprockets that define these measurements in the first place.

    • @user-fe8iq2wh3e
      @user-fe8iq2wh3e 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically a single speed is a "fixed gear" meaning it doesn't shift. A track bike is considered a "fixed wheel" meaning the wheel doesn't free wheel.

    • @jakeevans1129
      @jakeevans1129 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really BSing mate I believe that 300rpm is a possibility. I used to race BMX and know how hard the training is. I couldn’t get to 300rpm but Alise and the other riders in Elite Womem can. Elite Men even more rpm I wouldn’t doubt it tbf

    • @jakeevans1129
      @jakeevans1129 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh sorry didn’t realise miles had anything to do with it. Just remember BMX racers have the highest watt figures of any form of cycling. They are also jumping massive jumps which will break multiple bones if you crash. Go back to your Lycra wearing friends with your chamois cream up your arse and we’ll carry on racing bikes properly.
