    Calvin and Truman, great video! It would be interesting to see how products like CushCore effect the pressures in some of those situations as well.

    Applying science to bikes is so awesome.
    It would be really interesting to see the forklift test on a bmx wheel with a 100PSI tire.
    Probably a lot less safe to stand in front of! ha

    First of all, please excuse my poor english.
    Excellent what's going on at 5:27. It can be used as a subject of a new clip.
    You should test a correctly tensioned wheel in pseudo-real conditions. Measure the tension in the upper spokes versus the tension in the lower spokes. The difference is very important when we talk about correct spoke tension.If correct, the spokes should break when they are under the correct tension..

    • @parktool
      @parktool  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The bike is a Kona Honzo st. A steel hardtail that is aimed to be more "enduro" than others I have had. The 29" wheels are great for rolling over stuff. They are taking a bit to get used to though. But thus far I am happy with the bike. The bike will be used as a test bike to test components and stuff.

    So what tubeless pressure should I run as a 240lb rider with 2.5" Front and 2.4" Rear 29er? The 300lbs of force is a bit concerning...

    • @i.e.sergio
      @i.e.sergio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a 265lb rider who has been losing weight from 300 in the past six or so months, I personally have had issues whenever my pressure dips below 25 psi with a front 2.5" DHF or under 30 psi on the rear with a 2.3" on my 27.5 in bike.
      I rode a fat bike tire under 30 psi once and literally almost died when everything rolled out under me, but my helmet gave its life for mine.

    • @FoVision
      @FoVision 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@i.e.sergio Thanks! Hmmm fat bike should have more tire volume and thus lower pressures especially tubeless. The sidewalls tend to be weaker though.

    • @parktool
      @parktool  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having a 26" or a 29" does any difference to how much pressure should we put in?

    • @parktool
      @parktool  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the 29er has a larger volume of air, typical riding pressures are lower.

    • @TheBirchCreek
      @TheBirchCreek 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends on several factors, not only the tire material and structure, but quite importantly also on the overall tire volume. The fatter the tire, the lower pressure it allows.

  • @MarvinConnell
    @MarvinConnell 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I believe in having firm tyres - so I run mine at max or 50psi... I believe that comfort & traction should come from suspension & tyre compound... I believe that stressing(abusing)tyres - running low pressures - to achieve what I previously mentioned is wrong - I believe that riders should accept the imperfections of their riding conditions & should adapt to different situations instead of expecting(or forcing)their bike to behave the same in every situation... You don't 'have' to go fast in every situation & through all conditions - after all, we riders don't ride at the same speeds when riding uphill vs riding downhill don't we? (not even with E-bikes - well, not yet anyway) PS: Some of the most fun I've had whilst riding involved riding through river water which only allowed me to rock my crank back & forth(or else, soak my sneakers)... Being able to handle\adapt to different situations is more fun than being the same way throughout the situation\condition - that's why mountain biking is more fun that road cycling... =P

      there is only one response to your comment. And that is you...are... wrong! Drop your psi's to about 25psi front and 30psi rear and reap the benefits of your tyres actually doing what they were designed to do at the pressure they were designed to work at!

    • @MarvinConnell
      @MarvinConnell 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you watched that video & still insist on running low pressures......You're Not Intelligent Enough To Assess Wrong From Right... I am not wrong(you're just making an excuse to call me wrong)... Abusing tyres by using too low a pressure to get grip is WRONG - REGARDLESS of weather an advantage is gained or not... There are other ways - & you don't 'have' to get maximum grip in every cirsumstance... Why don't you lower tyre pressure to ride on ice? The so called 'designed' to work at thing is more adapted to handle the abuse or running lower pressure... Tyres are NOT suspension & should NOT be run at low pressure to cushion your ride, & they should NOT be run at low pressure to get more traction...

    • @blarghe
      @blarghe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Holy moly everybody calm down. The correct way to run your tires is whatever you like. If you want rock hard tires and it keeps you riding then thats correct for you. If somebody want to run low air pressure and they enjoy it, that is also correct. I personally run 22 psi front and 25 psi rear and that works for me in most situations. Ill wear the tred off long before the sidewalls wear out.
