    Exactly. I can't believe that somebody can jam continuously for 4 minutes and not repeat a single lick - AND still make it sound so awesome !

    Greg impresses even himself on this haha. You can see the smiles from time to time when plays a really crazy line like "hell yeah, can't believe I pulled that one off"

    Reading below, it's always shocking to me how people don't know Greg Howe. He's been around since the original late 80's Shrapnel era guitar virtuoso's. Truly one of the all-time greatest IMO, Introspection album is a masterpiece

    You know, I'm a great believer that love has certain sounds. What i mean is, it triggers something deep within me, when I hear children laughing, or the sounds of people happy, I get a big kick out of that, not enough of that in this world if you ask me, anyway, you know what I mean, don't deny it, deep within you and I we're not so different...The joy that Greg gives me is a lot like the heat of the sun on my face. This world is a great place with the likes of Greg on it...G...

    I think Ive watched this about 20 times now ! I think its one of the best guitar vids on youtube. So tasteful and melodic, yet technically frightening! It also takes a true genius to jam for 4 minutes and not repeat a lick. Incredible.

    Without doubt THE most joyful, life-affirming bit of lead playing on youtube. What I wouldn't give to be able to approach this degree of playing.....for sale, one soul, one mother, etc.

    Greg: I actually knew and worked with Bobby Hebb and I will tell you that you play Sunny to perfection. I know that Bobby would have been pleased with what you did as I am. You see Bobby and I worked for The Massachusetts Highway Department In Boston and he was always cool and I mean it. When Bobby Hebb died in 2010 The Massachusetts Highway Department lost more than a man we lost a legend as well. Steven M. Fanale

    • @jagheterjonteh

      He is using modal scales (different modes of Ionian scale).

    • @juankplaysmusic
      @juankplaysmusic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yes, you can always kind of point what scale he is using per chord. But I suggest to try thinking and playing in smaller chunks of information (ie: intervals, triads, quatriads), instead of scales. For example during a G7, you might play something based on G major triad plus a b9: if you go the scale route you will see this might come from many scales: altered, diminished, phrygian dominant, etc. Interesting, but confusing and not practical for playing in real time! There are no really shortcuts for fussion and jazz, but thinking in smaller units instead of 7-8 note scales (usually spanned for two and a half octaves) is much more easy to grasp, especially if you just started learning fussion/jazz.

      Yer sir! With John Scofeid (guitar), Joey Defranceso (Hammond and Bass - yes, at the same time, like Ray Manzerek on steroids:)) and Byron Landham (drums). Awesome version. But I also love Greg's approach. You know, there is an awesome guitar virtuoso by the name of Guthrie Govan who, I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, was inspired by Greg's technique. Check him out. Nonetheless, I love this version and thanks to the person that posted this.... a belated thanks at that:)
