I attended their show in hamburg at the kent club and it blew me away, it was all i could have ever wished for. The one thing that blew me away equally was listening to 14 year old Birelli Lagrene playing at the university in Augsburg, musically very different stuff but equally mindblowing. That friday evening at the kent club in hamburg was a once in a lifetime event for me, every musician really needs to see this band performing live, a must see. Apart from being masterful musicians they are also very lovely and polite folks! Much love from my side! Thx a lot.
Discovering there was an EU + UK tour earlier in the summer, I knew some places would likely sell out very fast, as I could not recall the last time Greg had organised a solo-band tour but I might be mistaken. Thoroughly amazing to be there, and I was not expecting a meet and greet at the end! They were so courteous and kind to the fans, must have been running on fumes and 4 hours sleep for most of the past 3 months. I hope to one day be able to play even one of his tracks with any competency! :D
Graced by the presence of the Bass Goddess. Greg Howe never sounded so good. Arguably the best trio in the world! OK..... listening to the drum solo Marco got Dennis Chambers and Virgil Donati like chops. He is a a drumming god.
Thanks for posting, good audio and video quality indeed! I saw this incredible trio about a month ago in Italy and it's nice to have the same setlist available for watching again.
Yeah, my zoom level was pretty high to be fair ( ͡ʘ ͜ʖ ͡ʘ) maybe I should have backed off by 10% or so hahah! :D I thoroughly recommend seeing any musicians or bands you like live if you can, in some cases it might be your only chance and you never know if they will tour again. In the past 5-6 years we have also lost _a lot_ of great musicians, some to age and others to tragic circumstances or other reasons. I count myself lucky to have witnessed musicians at the top of their game let alone the additional honour of meeting them afterwards. Especially when it was basically midnight/1am and they had gigs virtually 18 hours later for weeks on end.
You're welcome! It was simply amazing to be there, especially meeting them at the end given their tight tour schedule! Thank you, I'm glad the output was good enough to share after a few fix ups :D
Tem razão! O irmão nas baterias é incrível e muito positiva com os aficionados! (Sorry for any bad translation, as a Brit who speaks Spanish to an intermediate/advanced level I try to convert what I know to Portuguese :D)
2:14 Amazing I wish I was there... if I really need to find a thing, I would add a keyboard, in most of his recording there are keys or rhythmic guitars... but said so... the show is top
I can see how that would fill out the sound of the band and make for a lot of improvised jams! Same goes with adding a saxophone like with Greg's other appearances historically at various Jazz festivals. :D Similarly with Simon Phillips' - Protocol studio sessions prior to the new guitar player Alex Sill -- I'd love to have witnessed one of those whilst Greg Howe was still with them -- but Alex is also pretty darned amazing I cannot deny! :)
@@syno-fh8rw Thanks appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoyed it! It was amazing to be there, especially meeting the other fans and the band afterwards! Regarding the audio, I did my best with what I have, next time I need to be more careful cooling the camera to avoid overheating. For anyone interested I shot this with a Sony A6700 with the internal mics. They are surprisingly good, low-end suffers a bit though and seems there is an internal automatic compressor.
Reasonable criticisms, I will keep this in mind and do better in future recordings. For context: The venue has raised balcony only on the right hand side, which is the best vantage point you can really get, and the spot I had is the only bit that sicks out close enough to avoid obstructions. The main issue I found was mobile phones obstructing the view of Greg's guitar from my position hence why there's less screen time. I also did not want to spoil other fans' view by raising my arms since we were all stood pretty close together and did not want to ruin someone else's enjoyment.
I love everything from the rhythmical variations plus time signature changes, each instrument having its distinct space, and the wildly insane solos to top it all off! Glad you enjoyed this as much as I did, and I do hope you get chance to see them yourself some day!
Fair enough, I will respectfully disagree. My view is that the solo builds and flows quite nicely overall, however, I am also not a drummer. Out of interest, what examples of great drum solos do you consider and recommend to others?
Excellent recording, and great musicianship... but, after a while it sounds like an auctioneer that's high on a case of Red Bull & an eight ball of cocaine. Speed is great when it's harmonic, melodic and not overused... it makes things interesting, exciting and gives variety. Kinda sounds like if Yngwie played funk fusion. An abuse of technique IMO. YMMV
For every virtuosic technique he does, he has something melodic, bluesy, and tasteful. Plus this reductionist viewpoint of Yngwie is seriously misplaced. Black star is just one example of him being able to go slow hand / melodic. There’s this really weird stigma that just because people can play on a high technical level that that is what they do all or even most of the time, and it’s BS
@@GuitarGangsta 1st... mentioning Yngwie was a figure of speech and slightly sarcastic. 2nd... Yngwie DOES shred in most every song he's done since the beginning. Sorry if you're in denial. I'm very aware of MANY guitarists and I'm a working and educated guitarist for over 40 years. Melodic speed is great, but doing it constantly gets redundant after a while... IMO. I mentioned and respect their abilities. We like what we like. I like variety... so, I'll stick to my comment.
@@jazzfusionfan260 yeah I guess Simon Phillips was really “scraping the bottom of the barrel” and had to “settle” for Greg howe, because every “more musical and melodic” guitarist who doesn’t “abuse technique” wasn’t available.
@@GuitarGangsta You wanna keep going huh? I already complimented on their musicianship. I think there's a bit much shredding throughout. Whatever. What's your point? Opinion? Troll? You winning something here? And, Simons band is much different. Have a nice day. Geez.
Whole Trio was incredible but i have to give the trophy to the Drummer...mind blown.

They & Greg make it look so easy. Super
This is the show I’ve been looking for --great sound, great camera, great playing!

Hot tip for video guy.
Stay on the soloist.

21:08 This is the worst drums solo I've heard in a long time. He doesn't know what he's doing. Completely chaotic and it doesn't make any sense.

I think Greg's integration of speed into the music is one of the most tasteful around. It's his own style.
For every virtuosic technique he does, he has something melodic, bluesy, and tasteful. Plus this reductionist viewpoint of Yngwie is seriously misplaced.
