When I first started listening to Greg Howe, It was almost too much for me. Fusion was hard to get used to because it just seemed so random and frustrating to try and understand. The more I listened to him, the more I understood and realized just how incredible Greg Howe is. This genre of music seriously is some of the hardest music to ever play.

First one must say to be fair...They all are very accomplished musicians!! But man what a beast on drum Dennis Chambers is. and Greg Howe goes far into the universe with his phenomenal chops!!
i listened to this album when it came out i was 14, it def opens your mind to new improv style phrasing... pretty amazing. and also..Tetsuo & Akira!!! What!!!!?
@@yusdrum91 Yes, and on the studio version th-cam.com/video/htYx0d5a7P4/w-d-xo.html Greg doesn't take a solo on that progression, which surprises me, because it might be the tastiest fusion progression+melody ever written. I hum it when I go to sleep, like a Beatles song.
This is Dennis Chambers! You can hear him also with John Scofield, Mark Stern...and also with Steely Dan (live)..probably the album that brought him to world attention was..Loud Jazz by John Scofield.
Kudos to Tetsuo for bringing out the BEST in Greg and Dennis!! You won't be disappointed, and Tet's new album VITAL WORLD with the same crew is KILLA!! These guys are the dream crew!!!!
Wow. This is still amazing to me after like 5 years of listening to it. I always thought that Greg was just amazing here, but after many listens, I think that the keys player really gives him a run for his money here!
This whole album is such a masterpiece. I heard they didn't all get on whilst recording the album.. Blimey, if that's them arguing and in a bad mood, can you imagine what it would have like if they all got on swimmingly. Amazing. I love the bassline on the album nearer the end. Gives me chills everytime.. Peace
Its been 8 years. My heart is still trembling when I listen this. Thank you for this thank you for all your works! My fav fav favourite song Wish I could watch this live in Turkey
A group of master musicians! I love the Extraction album so much that I couldn't get enough of listening to it every day for a loooong time after it first was released. I still like to listen to the album from time to time. Unbelievable compositions that definitely give me eargasms! :-D
the is great pocket and soloing at it's best for a group of musicians. Everyone nails there part. They are together when they should be and when they go on there own....each musicians shuts it down. Great performance.
that so cool to be able to see that now. a couple years ago i used to listen to that a lot. it's great to hear such tasty and creative playing along with those beautiful melodies
I've had this album for a couple years and it is amazingly tastefull! come on victor wooten gregg howe and dennis chambers that's is a reciple for a spontaneous cosmic groove soup! i love it! it's a little hard to swallow for most of my friends but it is very inspirational to me!
yeah, i started seriously listening to jazz fusion in 2000. I gave a cd full of mp3 jazz fusion songs to a pianist in spain and she said it all sounded the same to her. i could understand, but when i went to see her for the first time last week since then, she had jazz fusion music and concerts on her laptop and was showing it to me. Some was dennis chambers and she didnt even know, amazing. Glad this doesn't leak over to mainstream pop like other generes do.
Ya know Greg and Guthrie would play great together, both amazing talents, Greg hot rock, Guthrie Country. But I'd have to say I love Greg's playing always have.
The Absolute King of Guitar, Period...Fusion, Jazz Rock, Fusion...King of technique, Tones and he even looks Like Michael Jackson, Ha! King of Pop! My All time Favorite...Hands down...No One comes, close, except Guthrie Govan and Guthrie is one of, if not, the best out there! Hat's Off!
Legend has it that Dennis Chambers still chews that same piece of gum to this day.

ha :) .. funny guy up there.
Bahahahha
😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Akira Onozuka really tearing it on this track. Such beautiful lines!
Siiii como dibuja !! Hermosas líneas 😊
Speechless. The pianist and bassist were so damn good. Greg needs no introduction, I grew up listening to him since 2009.

It's fast as hell, yet nuanced.
@@richardk6659 Not to mention tight.
@@bmwrules1464 i would happily sell my kidney to hire a drummer as tight and powerful as dennis chambers
Now take 100 listens to Holdsworth
Yes, rock with changes and odd tempos. Thats why people dont get it.
Mr Howe, always comes through. Shame he never received the spotlight that's due to him.
He's not a kind of a clown or a hype-thing like modern pop-idols - that's why they really attract attention. Real masters are always in the shadow :))

@@YaoEspirito absolutely. Now many publish their reaction to something. And just few produce this "something".
I always tell my wife that if you don't see Guthrie Govan and Greg Howe in the same room, then it's the same guy.
Producer : Greg do you play jazz or rock
?
Greg Howe : Yes.
Booooo.
Greg Howe sait tout jouer...he plays rock, fusion, jazz, jazz rock...he is the king..
Hats off to Mr. Onozuka. Beautiful work. As good as Jan Hammer with McLaughlin, my highest praise. Love this stuff.
Very underrated pianist. Seriously badass
holy shit. had this album for years, never knew this vid was here. every time i hear this song its so good it almost makes me cry.
Dogbone tv Right!!!
I came for Greg Howe, but each musician here is genius
First one must say to be fair...They all are very accomplished musicians!! But man what a beast on drum Dennis Chambers is. and Greg Howe goes far into the universe with his phenomenal chops!!
Tetsuo Sakurai is disgustingly good in whatever group he's in. Superb note choice.
This is real fusion.
yep
yes!
This is unreal fusion! For all time...
Yeah,
Mahavishnu Orchestra 32 yrs. later, and much easier going ...
Some of the best ever !❤
10,000 hours for them...10 minutes for us! Thanks for sharing!
They endured Hell to bring us Heaven... no complaints here!! ;)
6:55 I love the bass
Akira Onozuka on keyboards!!
Awesome
that Japanese bass player is fire! 🔥
Tetsuo Sakurai. He was the bassist for the 80's funk/fusion band Casiopeia. Go ahead, fall down that rabbit hole, you'll be smiling the whole way.
The groove that keeps on grooving!

That's not crazy at all!
Agree
I second the motion
at 1:40 a very Zappaesque feedback OMG awesome!
I regrettably agree but I still love McLaughlin music but Howes playing is technically superior
The Force is strong with them!
I think this release extraction is amazingly good!!I was really excited when i heard it!!!
Akira-san has that seat-bounce down! Greg's amazing as always, really enjoyed their "duel" :)

It's not the music that's disliked, it's the new height of the bar
Best formation, Greg Howe at his best shape with his best guitar.
