The commentator "I'm back, never count me out!!" like it was some kind of redemption run is funny. He literally won the world 5000m title in his previous race... not exactly like he was washed up!

@@alvarojrgalo926fr it’s actually possible. no offense but Joshua Cheptegei is a very inconsistent runner and if he can hit 12:35 I think Jakob (who didn’t run a 5k at all the whole year leading up to worlds and won it) is capable of breaking that

@okklidokkli yes exactly running 100m hurdles instead 110m hurdles is clearly different and Wayde sprinting full lap 43,03 is much harder than sprinting 390,66m let's say 43second flat.

at running with pace lights he is indeed, but in championship races where it really matters and you have to think for yourself, sadly he doesnt have that mental fortitude and cracks when challenged, titles are forever whereas records are broken and folk forget. @@jensmith3719 So what you are saying is, if he is slightly sick he should drop running a world championship instead of being beaten and only get a silver to humour you, or he should make up lies and say that he felt incredible? He did say he didn't feel quite well after the indoor championship 2022 and later found out he had covid. This time it was confirmed that he had a slight fever the next day. Last year after the outdoor championship he didn't make any excuses but was hopping mad at himself for poor tactics. This year a journalist asked a question that made no sense to Jakob about whether he was eager to compete against Josh Kerr again to beat him, and he tried to explain but it seems many people didn't understand. He obviously want gold medal in 1500 in World Championship, and if he is slightly sick and somebody beats him it doesn't make any difference who it is. His next chance is the next World Championship, not any race before that (well, the Olympics is kind of the same, and he obviously want gold there as well). After the 2000 meter record he said it was one of the easier to beat. He has said before that his goal regarding world records is to beat the 10 world records (1500, mile, 2000, 3000, 3000 steeplechase, 2 mile, 5000, 10 000, half marathon and marathon) during his career. If he even comes close to that, I can promise you that it will be remembered more vividly than any gold medals a particular year. He has beaten two of the easier ones so far, but if they was easy to beat, somebody else would have done it a long time ago.

A journalist gave him a question that made no sense to him, and he made the mistake of trying to explain why it didn't make any sense, and it wasn't his most eloquent moment. Since he was a tiny child, his father drilled into him and his brothers that they should set themself goals and work hard towards them. The journalist asked if he was eager to run against Kerr again to beat him, almost as if he expected Jakob to prioritize races where Kerr are running. Jakob's goals are to win the races he competes in, win championship and olympic medals, set world records (10 to be precise) and become accepted as the greatest middle and long distance runner of all time. I assume beating certain people has been on his goals list at certain points, like his brothers when he was younger, and maybe Joshua Cheptegei who consistently beat him in 5000 before the olympics, but I'm pretty sure Josh Kerr has never been on the list and most likely never will be. I don't think his answer to the journalist was very well formulated, and he was disappointed about being slightly sick and not win the race, but I wouldn't call it salty.
