As an Aussie with zero interests in track and field and athletics in General. This kid is the best thing to happen in Australian sport since Errol Gulden. I've never looked forward to an Olympics since 2000 and that was mainly due to Cathy Freeman. This boy is gonna be the biggest athlete we've ever seen in Australia.

He's not even close. There has been a few teenage American phenoms who were running faster than Gout Gout at his age and never improved once they became 20 year olds. The most famous is Erriyon Knighton who ran 19.84 as a 17 year-old. Knighton is still running, made the Olympic finals, but his times haven't improved. Gout Gout has to have the right coach and the desire to improve. After all the human body has it limitations. However, time will tell.

I’m differentiating line markings on the track, he collected the baton at 99M mark and had to hesitate and caboose in his momentum. 6/10 at best irrespective of of all the hype. No where near perfect. Can’t wait to see him put together a perfect 10/10. That will be SPECIAL

At 36 secs he hits max velocity and begins that high knee stride that looks like he is doing the triple jump. Runners begin to slow at the 50m to 60m mark but this kid keeps his MV from 50m to 100m. I counted 35 strides before he shuts it down with 10 meters to go. Love to know his stride length. Anyone know if he is doing triple or long jump too?

I was gonna say, before watching the actual race, that a 9.53 100m relay split for a guy that's run 10.17 legal is not actually that impressive. But having seen the bad changeover, & Gout shutting it down 15m from the line, it actually was impressive 🤩 Those two things cost him about 0.4 seconds, so that 9.53 would've been a 9.13, which would have been spot on for a 10.17 100m man 👍 🏃♂️
I'd love to know the exact distance he ran here. Looks well under 100 mts, as you can see the classic 100m line behind him as he is about to take the baton. If he can improve his start (sound familiar?) and is well coached on and off the track he could be anything.
If you watch the flat 100m races that line us the 100m mark where I started the stopwatch as he crossed it. The line before that is for the 110m hurdles races. Just fyi.

Is it something to do with the muscles, or shoes or is it just his way of walking? No you have a changeover zone of 20m which is a region 10m before and 10m after the 100m start for each leg. He didn't fully get the baton by his 100m but still had 10m to receive it. He then gets to actually run hard after securing it.
Pretty sure he can go way faster than that. Boonson ran 9.04s split during this year's U20 Championship from this video (th-cam.com/video/sc4nUvuaKKo/w-d-xo.html), so i think he can match that split if he went all out here.
It was the national underage championships. Generally only attended by teammates and family members, but I suspect that will start to change with the more that Gout achieves.

In Australia, the school year finishes in December. Track meets in Australia & probably most other southern hemisphere countries typically are run during summer. The purpose you ask? Exactly the same purpose the US & other northern hemisphere countries do them in July or summer months. Get with the times.

In Australia, the school year finishes in December. Track meets in Australia & probably most other southern hemisphere countries typically are run during summer.
The purpose you ask? Exactly the same purpose the US & other northern hemisphere countries do them in July or summer months.

Officially it is Gout Gout. That is what his birth certificate states
It was supposed to be Guot.
What you probably misunderstood was that it was supposed to be that way. I believe his father is trying to change it officially, but for now, it is Gout.

"Gout's father, Bona, has revealed that the family name was misspelled as it was being translated from Arabic when he and his wife, Monica, fled ..." (the Sydney Morning Herald). I understand that Murdoch's gutter press is trying to frame it in terms of a name change. Yes, it is currently his official name, but it isn't his real name.
