Inge could attack the world record on this day. He ran an extra 4-5m on the first lap. Very often turned to his opponents. He will definitely break the mile record in the future under ideal conditions.
Totally incredible race and somehow he kinda looks disappointed he didn't get the record, even though he ran like the 3rd fastest ever, and beat his PB by 3 seconds.
He looked uncharacteristically exhausted and hurting after that one, but totally understandable. What a race, and how lucky are the others to have him as a pacer.
No disrespect to El G. The guy's a distance running immortal, now and forever. That said, if the pacemaking here had been the same quality that El G got in '99, Jakob Ingebrigtsen would now hold the mile world record. It's coming.
Gran Carrera!!
@@mathematics5573 Nuguse ran 3:34 solo in 2021 and qualified for the Olympic team that same year. The lengths y'all reach to make him look guilty is crazy
Ingebrigtsen looked a bit fatigued the last 300 - didn't have the turn over compared to when he ran the 2000 WR last week. Trying to do another WR within a week of the 2000 WR - flying to eugene - was too much. He ran a 52.4 last lap when he set the 2 mile record., so its clear he was not in top form today. He will eventually own the mile record and of course the 1500 as well. Look for him to set a WR in the 3k tomorrow.
2 miles WR, 6 days later, 3.27,95. 2 weeks later. 3.27.1.. . . . . . then 2000m WR, a week later, mile 3.43. It is tiring. disappointed he didn't get the mile WR. But he's only human.
We have not seen Ingebrigtsen when he is rested. This was WR attempt after having a very long season AND flying to eugene from belgium, and he likely was still recovering from an illness.

Like steve cram said.
He should have gone threw 1000m in 2:20 instead of 2:21
I mean he ran a 2:22 and a 2:20 for the 2000m WR
First time the top 3 has changed since 1999.
What a race! That was eerily similar to El Guerrouj/Ngeny.
Totally incredible race and somehow he kinda looks disappointed he didn't get the record, even though he ran like the 3rd fastest ever, and beat his PB by 3 seconds.
It's so impressive; Jakob almost seems never that happy after races
Also because the mile race takes the soul out of you😂
An incredible effort by both

Being dissatisfied with a time is crucial for the drive to keep improving.
Go Jakob go. Give us a 3.40 mile
🤯🤯🤯
My friend Hicham lives with the record another day

Fully agree! I think it's just so much harder from the front which he did in both races, crazy!
6 personal bests this Summer. 2 WRs. at 1500m, 1 mile, 2000m and 2 miles. If he repeats this again, he will break many WRs.
@@AthleticsHQ Yeah. Harder from the front. Not very impressive pacemaking. The last pacer only lasted a little past 900 meters.
Mark my words, he will break this mile WR in next year's Diamond League final if not before, with a sub 3:43 clocking.🎉🎉
3:42 would be crazy
Well the clock is ticking. You never know when you'll start heading downhill. The shorter the event, the younger you peak.
the clock

And if Ingebrigtsen had the same shoes as ELG in 1999 and no lights to help he would be over 3:45

just wow...they were at max here and still missed it. obviously the penultimate lap ultimately cost the WR. incredible seeing 2 athletes so close.
Oslo next year is where he will break the mile record

Awesome
Bruv ran 2 secs faster than my 400m pace for 4 laps 😳
He's a monster
My best 400m is 52 so I'd basically be going just slightly slower 4 times which sounds nuts
It's crazy!!@@rayrabid
52 is still impressive though, congrats@@rayrabid

Nuguse just got a huge boost to his confidence. Can’t wait to see how he does in the Olympics.

At 22 Herb Elliot had run 3.54. Jakob is 11 seconds faster at same age.
Hicham El Guerrouj still untouchable
