What happens if you dont put the tone rings back on for abs

Depending on your vehicle you could lose speedometer, or speedometer accuracy, ABS, and will throw a check engine light for abs

What makes these spider gears a limited slip differential? I have a new to me TJ jeep with a transplanted 8.8 and I have the spider gears with no S spring. I believe I have an open differential.

The spider gears aren't what makes it a limited slip, a lot of the 8.8's are open differentials. The S spring pushes on a clutch pack behind the spider gears and that's what makes the differential a limited slip. I would agree with you in that yours is probably an open differential especially since it doesn't have that S spring.
