For everyone confused about all the youtubers releasing videos at the same time, the answer is "NDA" or Non Disclosure Agreement. Today was when they were allowed to release and the early bird gets the worm hence simultanious uploads.
i'm a blue collar guy and I liked when you said "industrial". I'd like a phone, that's a phone! Blackberry and TCL have hit this one out of the park. Thanks for posting the vid.
This is the best review of Blackberry I've seen in a long time. This guy actually understands how Blackberry's intent and usefulness are different than regular phones. Thanks for actually mentioning the PHONE call features of this phone. Good job.
No, the phone maker make some kind of embargo, they decide when the review can be uploaded, that time happens to be today so that what makes reviewer upload at the same time, i think ( sorry my bad english)
Benedict Santos As part of getting a review unit, they signed an NDA or an embargo that idenitifies a date and time a review can be posted. this is done so there is little impact to pre-sales or pre-order of the product and maybe even augment its marketing.
picked up my keyone yesterday and I'm so happy with it. If you know what you to expect with it hardware and performance wise it truly is one of the best phones of 2017.
techandtea [Joshua Vergara] The upcoming iPhone? I'm still using the Note 4. I've been using Android phones for almost 10 years now, so I'm thinking of switching to an iPhone for personal uses. I may get a phone like this for work uses.
I would too, if it was $449 or at the most $499. But at this price, meh...Not that it's bad at all, but it's some things missing that at the price of $549, I'd consider a more higher end smartphone, my main smartphone choice.
got mine today. this is best android phone in years. completely different and sound is amazing. calls on loudspeaker for conference calls are brilliant. I can leave the blackberry KEYone in Centre of room and get on with it.
hi I really don't know to be honest. I sold my keynote last week. As much as I loved the hardware I don't think the software was 100% probably due to android. I just making it clear if it was BB10 this phone would have been the perfect phone part from the apps of course. But the android system is still and will never be Fantastic. So I have went back to my iPhone 7 plus . This was just my preference as it is more reliable for ME.
im glad bb came back with something for 2017. it's not a perfect phone but no phone is perfect if it was we wouldn't need to update or upgrade every year or few months. i cant wait to get this phone since im using a bb classic.
it looks like blackberry doesn't give a crap what people think. their like whe're just gonna keep designing our phones with physical keyboards if they don't like it they souldn't buy it . I like the fact that they do that lol
Damn this looks really nice and quite unique for the very bland smartphone market at the moment. The BlackBerry's android looks really good, if only Nokia had done some Android for their Lumias. This looks badass. :(
I own this phone and it's truly the best device I've ever owned. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you get a unit manufactured after July 2017 to avoid that little issue screen lift. Mine was manufactured in August and it's been bulletproof.
blackberry has never been designed for power users or mobile gamers they are for business and security thats why they come pre hardware and software encrypted
maximus10463 Yes iphone comes encrypted but there audience is completly difference, there hardware and sofware is complety difference. so its not a excuse im sure if blackberry wanted to make a phone that is for gaming, photo/editing they easily could, but as previously explained thats not has never has been there goal.
This phone is really only for BlackBerry people. I bought this phone because I craved the look (sleek dark business design) and feel (actual hardware keyboard) and experience (HUB and battery life) that only a BlackBerry phone can give. Other phones have much more, no question. But for those of us from the PDA era who wanted our "Palm Pilots" to become something more, something we could use as an actual communication device and business (item) manager as well, BlackBerry was that, and is now again. This phone is not for the 15-30 yr old market. It is for the 30, 40, 50 something guy or gal who is enmeshed in the responsibilities of life, the rat race if you will.... and primarily is concerned with managing their work and adult life interests....oh yeah - and who "just needs to get SH!T done!" Best part about BlackBerry's approach to this new phone is, they are not pretending to draw in any other market but the one who has been with them for years and whom has been waiting for their re-emergence once again on the smartphone market. Android OS made this possible and it is the perfect marriage of the BB hardware with the Android OS.Very happy with my BBK1.This is not an iPhone, not a Galaxy, none of those. This is a BlackBerry. GREAT REVIEW!
Great review as usual, Josh! Somehow you always manage to provide the technical info and user experience without making it sound like a bullet point list. Much appreciated :)
Blackberry is for business similar to Windows phones. That makes it behind the flagship phones that can do it all. BB software is really what separates this phone along with the keyboard.
this phone looks really good. great design and everything, plus I do like BB. the camera design in the back is pretty cool IMO. I'm all Android so this may be my next. Using the Nexus 6P. good stuff BB!
Good job on the video... for BlackBerry fans this is the phone to get... I couldn't go back to a physical keyboard, but that's what's great with Android ...so many choices.
This is definitely a really good productivity phone. They definitely nailed it in that department. The launcher I have right now already does the popup widget thing, so that wouldn't be new to me, but good to see it being there by default.
and you even can use the keys of the hardware keyboard to configure them! hope other emulators will support it too. How awesome it would be to play gameboy or snes games with that hardware keyboard?
I realise now that most people don't understand what the "close app" drawer is actually for: It's for when you need to close and restart an application that's bugged or frozen, or just simply not responding/working. A full RAM is actually good for your phone, whereas if you close Facebook and then reopen it, your phone is now having to use more power to reopen, when it could have just pulled it from sleeping in your RAM.
Thanks for the review! My Xperia is on its last days and I'm about to buy a new phone (Blackberry, 'cause I really miss physical keys), but I can't decide between Priv and Keyone :( Priv currently costs €350 while Keyone is releasing for €600, almost the double of that! Do you think I'll be ok with a priv? I'm only interested in email, whatsapp and such, not a mobile gamer nor anything... Thanks in advance!
I'm willing to use that phone for lots for messaging and emailing, but also web browsing, health apps and watching TH-cam videos a few times a day. I don't play big 3D games anymore on phones. Only small ones like Rayman Adventures or dan the man. I would like to know if the phone will be fast and snappy with that kind of usage. Does it take time to switch apps between Facebook, chrome, google inbox, whatsapp and small games? Or is it quick? Another small question : is the trackpad scrolling functionality precise and responsive or is it just a fancy toy? Thank you for your answer and your time.
Okay guys! For my new phone, I've narrowed it down between the Blackberry KEYone, the Motorola Z Play with the physical keyboard Moto Mod and the Verizon Wireless version of the Kyocera Duraforce Pro. I love the Duraforce Pro's excellent durability and wireless charging, and the sapphire display from the Verizon version is a huge plus, but I also love the versatility of the physical keyboard. Meanwhile, I really like the Z Play's near-stock unassuming awesomeness (similar to the said Duraforce Pro from what I hear) but I'm curious of the moto mod will protect the fragile glass back. Considering the good detail on the KEYone, I might consider it, but how is the exposed keyboard compared to the horizontal slider style keyboard, like the moto mod as well as the Priv, LG Enact and the Droid Series? Anyways, this isn't a bad review. You just forgotten that this phone uses the same camera sensor that's used on the Google Pixel. Also, I suggest changing the title to "getting THINGS done" or "getting the job done". Edit: As for the RAM issue with gaming, make sure to disable Blackberry Hub for that. Michael Fisher and Android Authority mentions how that program hogs a lot of processing power. It was treated as a nice, near-stock phone ever since. Maybe that will be updated when the KEYone is released. :)
This phone looks beautiful and I really miss the keyboard from my bold 9900, I could type fast without even looking down and with less mistakes without any sort of stupid auto correct. If you have never used a Bold of Q10 keyboard you have no idea why people become addicted to them.
dude you should show more love to this device, maybe you need to use it more and stand out from the crowd. it's beautiful, identical and I'll definitely buy it!
At the 2:20 mark it appears the back cover is popped off in the corner for some reason. It's not mentioned why, but you do carry on about the quality build. Seemed off putting a bit to me.
Thanks for this review! I had the BB Bold and I'm ready to go back. So tired of my Samsung Galaxy Edge 7. I am curious to know, does the Keyone have a SIM card?
Take my money already! I have been waiting for this android keyboard for years! And BB10 was awesome as well. I like it better actually, but you know, "the people" don't know any better than having ju two OS.
I kinda find it entertaining that people keep comparing this phone to phones that cost hundreds more and saying, it's only adequate. for a midranger, it's a good phone, for someone who is primarily concerned with social media and productivity, it's a great phone. I hope it's about $450 once carriers start marketing it. that may make it very attractive for me.
I haven't wanted a phone so much in years, for real.
Alex Ivanovic I need this phone
Alex Ivanovic IKR
Alex Ivanovic how do you LITERALLY want a phone? What? As opposed to figuratively wanting a phone?
***** get triggered!
+Ricky Jr. Nomura True that. I think I've seen the damn word used wrong so much it's getting to me too, man.
I'd get this instead of an S8.
I just love having phones that no one else in the room has.
DjKaiba yess me also!
Thats boss shit
Same
For everyone confused about all the youtubers releasing videos at the same time, the answer is "NDA" or Non Disclosure Agreement.
Today was when they were allowed to release and the early bird gets the worm hence simultanious uploads.
Embargo.
i'm a blue collar guy and I liked when you said "industrial". I'd like a phone, that's a phone! Blackberry and TCL have hit this one out of the park. Thanks for posting the vid.

I got one today and its even better than the reviews say.
danrdgreen how are the emoji
no difference
danrdgreen how's the audio quality via headphones? Very tempted to get one
the audio is great using a pair of beats and have no complaints. the external speaker is not great though.
danrdgreen I got mine too. it's my favourite phone I have owned!
I love that punchline. "Getting Sh*t Done." This is the blueprint of owning a blackberry.
This phone actually looks attractive. Makes me want to try it.
I swear AA, Pocketnow, MrMobile, and PhoneArena publish their KEYone review at the same time.
they prob did. they prob got the phone early and werent able to release a video until now.
PhoneArena too!
Robert Llobrera Jr. It's as if everyone agrees when they publish the same phone 😂
Robert Llobrera Jr. They do it because the NDA is lifted at a specific time, meaning they can release their reviews.
Robert Llobrera Jr. got a flood of notification
Blackberry is still one of the greatest. can't wait to pick one up!
Bryan Pereira Pun intended?
Bryan Pereira don't buy it😂😂 . you'll be upset when the screen falls out
206robert206 2 months later it's fixed
ALMOST EVERY OTHER TECH CHANNELS UPLOADED THE BLACKBERRY KEYONE REVIEW! Insane! Do you guys talk about when to upload it?
Maybe they had an embargo that lifted just now?
No, the phone maker make some kind of embargo, they decide when the review can be uploaded, that time happens to be today so that what makes reviewer upload at the same time, i think ( sorry my bad english)
Benedict Santos As part of getting a review unit, they signed an NDA or an embargo that idenitifies a date and time a review can be posted. this is done so there is little impact to pre-sales or pre-order of the product and maybe even augment its marketing.
Thanks for explaining this to me!
Jaquale Rice it was the way he asked it
Blackberry has been trying really hard to make a comeback. I think this is the first significant step!
Yes, Professional team work and hard worker. of course they can keep it up.
picked up my keyone yesterday and I'm so happy with it. If you know what you to expect with it hardware and performance wise it truly is one of the best phones of 2017.
I would love to have this as a second device.
techandtea [Joshua Vergara] The upcoming iPhone? I'm still using the Note 4. I've been using Android phones for almost 10 years now, so I'm thinking of switching to an iPhone for personal uses. I may get a phone like this for work uses.

Alex Tae Wan Kim pls don't downgrade to ios
So how is your iphone?
To be honest, I haven't been excited about a smartphone in a long time, this has my attention.
got mine today. this is best android phone in years. completely different and sound is amazing. calls on loudspeaker for conference calls are brilliant. I can leave the blackberry KEYone in Centre of room and get on with it.
William Boyce How's the sound quality through headphones?
hi I really don't know to be honest.
I sold my keynote last week.
As much as I loved the hardware I don't think the software was 100% probably due to android.
I just making it clear if it was BB10 this phone would have been the perfect phone part from the apps of course.

So I have went back to my iPhone 7 plus .
This was just my preference as it is more reliable for ME.
William Boyce Ah okay. thank you for the response :)
BB Passport would've been great had they continued that massive device. It was underpowered, it needed more power.
im glad bb came back with something for 2017. it's not a perfect phone but no phone is perfect if it was we wouldn't need to update or upgrade every year or few months. i cant wait to get this phone since im using a bb classic.
Finally a blackberry with nothing to bad that can be a deal breaker. Good review. Thanks for the information.
I like that he was playing Persona 3 on PPSSPP lol.
***** yea I totally get that, I haven't purchased 5 yet either.
I heard that on the DS emulator, the 3:2 aspect ratio fits both screens prefectly without any scaling. This intrigues me deeply
it looks like blackberry doesn't give a crap what people think. their like whe're just gonna keep designing our phones with physical keyboards if they don't like it they souldn't buy it . I like the fact that they do that lol
anyway great review my friend enjoyed it
this is called differentiation strategy. the only mobile phone with a physical key board in the market.
Get a job dude, you have no idea how many working people still have blackberries along with their iPhones.
Vision33r I bet you can't read.
I second that, lol. Vision33r obviously misread the OP and got triggered.
Damn this looks really nice and quite unique for the very bland smartphone market at the moment. The BlackBerry's android looks really good, if only Nokia had done some Android for their Lumias. This looks badass. :(
that physical click-clack of the keyboard is so addicting
i miss my blackberry pearl :(
The same feeling :) i have my BB classic up to this mine and its rock
Blackberry = quality ❤️
2:23 quality?
I wanted the S8 but I really like the blackberry and they always have security updates which is nice to have than not having anything at all
David Phongsavanh Not *just* security updates, but they have promised timely Android build updates as well !! :-)
KЯYPTIC I couldn't agree more. people be like black berry is "dead" and I'm like not in the "business world" dummy. lol
KЯYPTIC the iPhone is a monster and it's also encrypted, stop the excuses
maximus10463 Ipone was meant for all idot black berry if for those who classy ASF an want just normal power
maximus10463 My maid have one.
maximus10463 Yes iphone comes encrypted but there audience is completly difference, there hardware and sofware is complety difference. so its not a excuse im sure if blackberry wanted to make a phone that is for gaming, photo/editing they easily could, but as previously explained thats not has never has been there goal.
Just ordered it!!! So excited I'm getting a physical keyboard again!!
I actually really want this phone. it's amazing. I mean, not the best, but I love physical keyboard.
seems like a phone that really just gets the job done. cant wait to test and review this.
This phone is really only for BlackBerry people. I bought this phone because I craved the look (sleek dark business design) and feel (actual hardware keyboard) and experience (HUB and battery life) that only a BlackBerry phone can give. I am gonna buy this ! Now in 2019
Truly amazing device, can't wait to have it in my hands.
Finally proper Blackberry KeyOne review. Can you please do final review, for example after week of using it? Thanks
Just picked up my BlackBerry Keyone and absolutely love it! Now I use my Samsung Galaxy S8+ as my back up
David L Reyna any lag or stutter like with Samsung?
I'd definitely consider getting this. I'm still in love with my Passport. Now that it has full android features, it's definitely a yes.
Great honest review glad you weren't biased keep up the great quality reviews
Blackberry is for business similar to Windows phones. That makes it behind the flagship phones that can do it all. BB software is really what separates this phone along with the keyboard.

It's great to see some positive reviews about BlackBerry!
Good job on the video... for BlackBerry fans this is the phone to get... I couldn't go back to a physical keyboard, but that's what's great with Android ...so many choices.
great review Josh. I've missed your reviews
I miss Joshua doing the reviews. Glad he got to do a review for a device I've got my eyes on.
black berry has been RESSURRECTED!!!!
This is definitely a really good productivity phone. They definitely nailed it in that department. The launcher I have right now already does the popup widget thing, so that wouldn't be new to me, but good to see it being there by default.
***** Yeah, just checked. Had forgotten the name of the launcher.
lord let me get this phone this is it! not overly hyped but delivers!
Nice to see the fingerprint scanner on the space bar
The only phone I legitimately got excited about in probably three years.
Was that P3P?
TheVoxxification soo that's using an emulator?
TheVoxxification Love that game.
Persona 3 Portable? Is that what p3p stands for?
Never played it just thought it looked like a persona game. Only played Q and 4G...
blackabe111 Yup, It's the PSP version of Persona 3. Instead of breaking cards, they shoot their heads to summon a Persona.
and you even can use the keys of the hardware keyboard to configure them! hope other emulators will support it too. How awesome it would be to play gameboy or snes games with that hardware keyboard?
Im using a Galaxy S8+ right now but trading it for a blacberry keyone tomorrow. I can't wait. I hope I won't get disappointed.
welcome back blackberry !!!
this one was the first video I watched on Android Authority and ..... that's how you get shit done!! Good work.
3:00 I still play P3P on my PSP & Sometimes on my phone(PPSSPP)! Awesome Game!!! & Good review Guys.
Muhammad Hamza Mir Same here 😂.
hey, Joshua, put the back cover of the phone back - tightly in its place (watch on 2:22)
Okie dokie!
I realise now that most people don't understand what the "close app" drawer is actually for: It's for when you need to close and restart an application that's bugged or frozen, or just simply not responding/working. The all in one keyboard is pretty wonderful 👌👌
Ordered mine, it'll be here Monday!
Just noticed Hyper Coffee...haha I love that coffee shop but I didn't know u go there as well
BlackBerry KEYone is warming up so fast as the Priv?
Awesome review. I might just get this phone.. 👍
Harry Bismuth any phone built in the last 3 years will be fast enough for the usage you describe, so this one should be more than up to the task.
I see you josh! Still rocking that pebble 2!
i'll try it, like that features in the keyboard area.
great video and finally a video that show somebody playing with device
dam looks like a sweet new BlackBerry this year
2:25 why is the back plate separating from the body at the bottom? Noticeable at the lower antenna band
Nice review, looks to be a good phone / productivity device.
why do I feel Josh hasn't had a full review in years.. anyway, I never liked blackberry but this looks like a decent diversion.
great review, as usual... BUT, @03:04, how did you manage to play Persona 3 on Android (it IS Persona 3, right?)???
What was it that you used to play persona? It looked really great quality!
Okay guys! For my new phone, I've narrowed it down between the Blackberry KEYone, the Motorola Z Play with the physical keyboard Moto Mod and the Verizon Wireless version of the Kyocera Duraforce Pro.
Blackberry was my second phone ive had and i loved it. Been a couple years since i had one but i want this one 👍👍☺
2:23 what is that? is the back cover a little bit open below? Is that a slit?
2:20 Is that back corner lifting up? I have been wanting a KEYone! Just watched this and wondered about the top right corner.
Beautiful review and phone!!
Josh best android authority reviewer
I just ordered mine, it will be here Thursday. I’m coming from a passport
love it.
it's really a business designd phone.
all the best Blackberry
I'm very impressed with this phone the designed and the quality
were you..were you listening to starbomb? thanks for the review. i will be picking up this phone (newer black edition)
This phone looks beautiful and I really miss the keyboard from my bold 9900, I could type fast without even looking down and with less mistakes without any sort of stupid auto correct. If you have never used a Bold of Q10 keyboard you have no idea why people become addicted to them.
any word about keyboard stiffness? or it is soft as on Passport SE and Q10.?camera is better then on Priv?
Probably trading in my iPhone 7
Collin Walker then maybe give it to me
Is how I luv this phone so much I watch this whole vid start to finish
My main question is this phone has adriod app capabilities dose it have access to all the thousands of apps on the app store?
Despite the rather high $550 price, it seems pretty good. That 3505mAh + 4.5 inch display + SD625 means incredibly good battery life
dude you should show more love to this device, maybe you need to use it more and stand out from the crowd. it's beautiful, identical and I'll definitely buy it!
At the 2:20 mark it appears the back cover is popped off in the corner for some reason. It's not mentioned why, but you do carry on about the quality build. Seemed off putting a bit to me.
Two questions, will keyboard work for emulators or other games? Is the BB Hub a monthly payment in BlackBerry Android devices?
I just bought a keyone black edition and damn I never felt so correct with that decision
Me too!! Getting mine next week, can't wait to get my hands on one of the most practical phones in years :)
How is it so far?
@@atishaysinha9399 did u get it? How would u rank it among IPhone 7 or a XR?
is it a good thing that I know exactly where you went to do this review video?
all other reviewers were saying that the blackberry lasts for even 1-2 days. and u say only 6hours?
Thanks for this review! I had the BB Bold and I'm ready to go back. So tired of my Samsung Galaxy Edge 7. I am curious to know, does the Keyone have a SIM card?
love it. but can you use the active button to program it to be the lock button?
I've always wanted a phone with a big touch display BUT has the physical keyboard as well. This might be it.
Take my money already! I have been waiting for this android keyboard for years! And BB10 was awesome as well. I like it better actually, but you know, "the people" don't know any better than having ju two OS.
Does it get shit done?
;)
good title change from Getting sh*t done to Getting stuff done
I kinda find it entertaining that people keep comparing this phone to phones that cost hundreds more and saying, it's only adequate. for a midranger, it's a good phone, for someone who is primarily concerned with social media and productivity, it's a great phone. I hope it's about $450 once carriers start marketing it. that may make it very attractive for me.
